“Seven Churches of Revelation Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2013

Our tour was very well organized and proceeded exactly as described. Our van was extremely comfortable and the driver very courteous. Our guide Sadat was very knowledgable regarding the history of the Seven Churches sites and went out of his way to satisfy our needs and requests. When we asked to defer stops at a rug store and onyx factory he quickly respected our preferences. Sadat picked out some great lunch restaurants and break stops for us along the way. Our hotels for the 2 nights of the tour were4 star as billed and very plesant and comfortable. We recommend without hesitation this tour with this agency - it was top notch in every respect.

“Appreciated”

My husband and i were curious about Turkey and its history for years. We decided to do a Turkey Tour. We find out Celsus Travel in Tripadvisor which is high ranked and recommended. As soon as I have send an email for a quotation of a chosen Turkey Tour, Burak has answered with a fully detailed tour quotation which i was surprised about the fast response. We did a incredible tour for 11 days in Turkey with our private guide Yidgit and Kaya (Our driver) which was started in İstanbul. Turkey is more than I expected with it historical sites , history , hospitality, handicrafts and Turkish Cuisine (Delicious). We traveled 11 days but I believe its not enough to see the whole country so we booked our second tour with the same guys at the end of our first tour in İstanbul. Thank you Burak and Thank you Celsus Travel Team.

“Awesome, awesome, awesome...”

We booked a tour for our 9 adult’s party with Celsus Travel Team via their website and Barak has respond very quickly (Lightning). Our ship has arrived at 07:10 a.m to Kusadisi Port and when we cameout at 07:37 a.m our guide (Yigit) was already there for us. He did a wonderful tour site to site and explained stone to stone which a perfect, detailed, historical tour.
Organization was really great which was planned last minute by our guide at the site , we start the tour, our first stop was House of Virgin Mary and when we arrived to Ephesus the crowed has gone. We were very suspicious to book a private tour but with a little research the people had very bad experiences with a large group tour which they describe a rush tour.I will definitely recommend Celsus Team. “Awkward situation diminishes a good tour”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2013

We were part of the group touring with Celsus Travel in January 2013 to see Ephesus. Our tour was arranged by an individual (not me) who, in correspondence with Celsus, specifically detailed no shopping stops of any kind. This was conveyed to the tour participants in advance so everyone would know our time would be dedicated to seeing the wonderful sights of Ephesus and the surrounding areas. The email said that although the tour description was for 5 hours, we would have time until our return to our cruise ship if desired. Our tour guide did a very nice job of the actual tour, was very knowledgeable, and herded our group of 20 through the rain quite nicely. I believe everyone was delighted with that part of the day. We had expectation to stop for lunch since we had several hours. When we started out, the tour guide (Haluk) outlined the day's agenda. He said we wouldn't have time for lunch, but, "We have some snacks available for you." My interpretation was perhaps something on the bus, I did not question his comment, it was just a small part of his overall discussion. About 1:30 in the afternoon we were headed to our last stops and Haluk had the driver turn into a "Carpet Weaving School." He said they would like to show us Turkey's native crafts, and would offer us beverage and small snacks. The group organizer was very displeased with this turn of events and refused to allow the stop. Unfortunately, it turned in to an awkward tug of war between our group organizer and the tour guide. I think the bus opinion was divided on whether to go in or not. Haluk handled the situation fairly well. However, it should have been explained more when we started the day to gain acceptance. Part of Turkish culture is to welcome guests with tea. There likely would have been more agreement. I fault Celsus Travel with not explaining/offering/describing to the group organizer in the advance correspondence what would happen. Haluk was proceeding as his employer instructed. For his part, the group organizer should have accepted the situation and suggested he did not want to go in but whoever wanted to could. The event could have been a pleasant break with time left to see the rest of our sights. Bottom line, this was an uncomfortable situation somewhat increased by cultural differences and poor judgement. Celsus owes an apology to Haluk for not equipping him to handle the situation better, and to the tour organzier for not acknowledging what would happen.

“A Great Tour, With One Major Issue”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2013

I arranged a full day tour of the Ephesus area for group of 20 travellers on the Norwegian Jade, docked at the Izmir port in January 2013. The tour included the House of the Virgin Mary, Ephesus (including the terrace houses), St. John's Basilica, and the Temple of Artemis. Our guide was Haluk of Celsus Travel.

First of all, despite a little bit of rain (it is the rainy season after all), the sites were magnificent. Ephesus and the terrace houses are truly a treat to behold. With the rain passing through just before we got to the site, we were able to witness the ancient Ephesian gutters, sewers, and marble road design carry the water away quickly and efficiently.

Our guide, Haluk, did an excellent job introducing us to the country of Turkey and the local area on the long bus ride to the sites from Izmir. He also provided fascinating information at the sites. Unfortunately, the experience was marred when he offered to bring us to a "snack" location, which turned out to be a carpet factory. When we initially arranged the tour with the contact person Burak, we emphasized that no one was interested in any shopping stops, whether they be for carpet or leather or any other products. At that time, we were assured that none of these stops would be made. Everyone felt that we were rushed through the last few sites at Ephesus, and we assume it was so that we could visit the factory. When we arrived at the factory, no one on the bus was interested in going, so we informed Haluk and stayed on the bus until he agreed to leave. As we proceeded to St. John's Basilica, Haluk verbally berated me, as leader of the group, for ignoring Turkey's culture. This was very unprofessional, and made for an awkward situation, so I allowed him to let off some steam without argument. Upon arrival at the Basilica, Haluk remained silent for about 20 minutes, making and taking phone calls, and ignoring the group. However, he eventually decided to get back to work, and returned to being the smiling, informative guide he was at the City of Ephesus.

In conclusion, Celsus Travel treated us well throughout most of the tour, and the price was reasonable for all participants, at about half or less the price of the tours offered by Norwegian. However, Haluk's behaviour regarding the carpet factory was inexcusable, made everyone uncomfortable, and went directly against what was promised by the company. For that reason, what could have been a five-star tour deserves three stars at most.

Hi Greg,
I am very sorry to heard this situation and unprofessional behavior from Haluk. I am preparing a daily tour voucher for every tour and for their guides as almost the same as your tour voucher. All the requests and sights, even a copy of our emails are written in the voucher.A day before the tour, the tour guides get it with a short briefing from me so Haluk was informed at the tour day as always.
But its because of you and your group were our first tour of 2013 we did organize a surprise party as every year to our first group a snack and a cocktail (we worked together with Haluk for this 2 weeks) which is not allowed from Culture and Tourism Minister to do it at the ancient sights.
When you refused to going in to the "Carpet Weaving School" all the surprise party was collapsed so as Haluk, that's why he just tried many times with you because even i was waiting there and we spoke with Haluk when you arrived to St. John that we should skip the party. I said "okay, just continue with the tour and we canceling the party"

You could email me or call me via Haluk any time in the tour as you did before the tour arrangements or you could contact with me before you command in TripAdvisor that i would explain everything to you.

We hope to see you and your group again to give us a chance to fix it and celebrate our "pending" surprise party.

Your Celsus Team,

Burak Ocal
