THE BAD POINTS:-
It was our first visit to Turkey and we were collected from the airport and passed lots of lovely hotels one of which I hoped was ours. When we pulled up outside Ali Babam, I was disappointed. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and we were told that a meal had not been put aside for us as the travel agent had said we would not need one! Really!!? We were put in a small, basic room. We were not shown how to lock the door nor were we told when meals were served. (we were half board). The bathroom door could not shut without you slamming it and there was nowhere to hang your clothes in there. It was a small bathroom and the water was often cold. There was only a small dated cupboard type wardrobe int he room and 2 small units for our belongings which was not enough for 3 people. The 3 single beds were close together. The view from the balcony was not at all pleasant. When you were in the room, if someone flushed the loo in another of the rooms or had a shower, it felt like the water was running into your room. The plumbing was awful and the hotel was very noisy. Entertainment was only on a Friday and Saturday. We were charged 5 turkish lira each for watching a belly dancer they had hired. We were not told about this before hand and felt it was a cheek we had to pay for something we had not asked for. By the way, she arrived about an hour late.... The 'buffet breakfast' consisted of bread, cucumber, melon, boiled egg (usually cold) jam, salami, olives, tomatoes and luke warm coffee or hot water. It was the same every day. The hotel advertised the evening meal as being 'buffet' but it was not. Starters was always soup with a very small main course and melon for dessert each day. We asked for a change in dessert as we got bored of melon. We had a basic cake for 1 day. I asked the cook if he'd been a chef before and he told me it was the first cooking job he'd had and I could tell. The food was bland and not at all appetising. There was no information for visitors on the reception area and the receptionist kept giving us wrong info. We ordered some drinks for a total of 9 turkish lira which we were told to put on a tab even though we were willing to pay. We assumed we would pay before we checked out. We were then issued with a bill and told we had consumed the drinks 4 days ago and we were asked to pay - I was livid. They charge 3 pounds fifty pence a day for air con in your room and seven quid a week just to use the safe. We used the swimming pool once but was put off because we did not see it being cleaned. One of the management arranged an excursion for us then overcharged us telling us the exchange rate had gone up when I challenged him. Yet he still had the previous rate on display at reception. Other vendors also operated on the previous exchange rate so I feel we were 'done over'. He arranged to take us to the airport for our return journey then decided to go on a boat trip without telling us and his uncle took us 40 mins earlier than we'd wanted to leave which mean a rush out of the hotel.
THE GOOD POINTS:-
The staff were friendly and always said 'You're welcome' when we thanked them for anything. The room was cleaned daily and we were given clean towels daily. The hotel is in a good location. 10-15 mins walk to the Ladies Beach and the same distance to the town centre by bus. We made several calls from the reception area but we were not charged.
WOULD I GO BACK TO THAT HOTEL AGAIN:-
No definitely not.
