“Sea Pearl.... What a Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2010

If you have never been to Kusadasi (pronounced Kush-a-das-i) or Turkey before like I hadn't and you have booked or are thinking of booking, don't hesitate for a minute. You WILL HAVE A BALL. We booked the Sea Pearl on advice from our travel agent, it is a resort mainly for Irish people and if you tell anyone in Kusadasi where you're staying, they will know you're Irish! Which we found nice. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is lovely, you feel very at home and its easy to find your way around. We checked in at 5am and the staff were on hand to greet us, the Sunway rep will give you your check-in card and room number on the bus, so you just tell the porters what your room number is and they will take your bags, you do not take your bags yourself, it is a service provided by the hotel. Then, you get your room key from Reception, who will tell you where to go to get to your room. Be aware, when we got to the roonm, we couldn't figure out how to turn on the electricity (Dumb, maybe, but we worked it out!!) You need to put the block attached to the key into the slot on the wall and everything switches on.
Also note; the rooms can be quite stuffy when you first go into them as the air con switches off with the electricity (of course) but we found that if you leave your main room door open and your patio door open for about a minute, the breeze blowing through will cool it down and then your air con is that little bit more effective!!
The rooms are very basic, and the bed is very low down (not good for someone with bad knees!) but is extremely comfortable. You have everything you need in your room, tea and coffee making facilities (if you're someone who likes your tea, bring a few tea bags as they provide 2, then you buy your own) TV, with english speaking channels, True movies 1&2 and BBC world news and some music station, a kids channel also, but when do you watch TV??
The Pool area is lovely and clean, you can watch them cleaning the area every night and taking the green cushions off the sunbeds before they close them away so they don't get damp!!
The staff literally cannot do enough for you, they seem to know what you want before you realise yourself, and they are so friendly and so happy in their work. They are friendly and attentive to your every whim, but they are not sleazy (thank God) some Turkish men will tell you what you want to hear to get you to buy things,so beware!
The food is excellent in the hotel, yes it is a little more expensive, but really, when you add up the cost of the bus, or taxi to where you want to go, its not that bad really. We paid 88 Lira (about €40) for 2 pizza, 4 chips, 4 large (tankards) Diet Cokes, and it fed 4 people. Where in Ireland can you get the same for €10 each (not even McDonalds!!!)
Taxi's outside the hotel are good value, but always confirm the price before you get in. Some will charge 5 TL (Turkish Lira) for ladies beach and others 7TL, so make sure you are happy with the price first and always use the yellow cabs, as the drivers are generally more friendly and will not overcharge you.
If you go to the market, have a price in your head you want to pay for something before you start haggling, and don't give them what they want, you will get your price if you walk away, they will come after you...
Excursions: If you want to go on a trip to Ephesus or Jeep Safari, my recommendation is SunDial tours, go to Ladies Beach and find Jean-Claude (known as Jean-Claude Van Dame), we went to Ephesus, and were amazed at the tour guide (Riza) he was magnificent, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would recommend the tour operator (he's a bit sleazy, but he is very good looking) but, DO NOT book a turkish bath through him, as you will be disappointed, a guy came to pick us up, was laughing and joking, took us into the place to have bath and started trying to sell us many different things, face mask, oil massage, and kept hassling us throughout our bath, then he charged us for the water we drank, when it was supposed to be complementary because we didn't buy a massage. He wasn't laughing when he took us back to the hotel he was very quiet.
Evening: The sea Pearl provides different entertainment each night, which is brilliant, Ozzie and Alex do a great job, we stayed most nights at the hotel because the entertainment was brilliant. We watched a fire show, circus act, comedy show (very funny, Ozzie and Alex did a few sketches, very funny) bingo night, quiz, magic show, Barbeque night, just briliant entertainment and recommended. the music does stay on very late at night, we were very tired first night and could have done without "country roads" at 1.30am, but you have to understand that there are people who want that till that late, and as long as there is 1 person still there they will keep playing songs!!
All in all, I had the best holiday of my life and I can't wait to go back next year!! Next time, I'm definately staying for 2 weeks, 1 week is not long enough.

Well a lot of upsides have been explained by other users which mostly true.

Just would like to tell some downsides which I have experienced about this hotel.

1- I found the attitude of reception staff, not great.

2- I have seen two managers there, don't know the name but one of them has a black hair and goatee beard, I found his attitude disgusting. He is always around the hotel and looking at people like spy. Seen him a lot of times around the pool area and breakfast room that he is looking at guest like he is trying to find a murderer. I found his attitude so offensive.

3- Seems all staff have responsibility of finding what do you carry from outside to the Hotel. Including Security at front gate and specifically reception staff. They don't allow you to even bring your bottle of water you have bought when you were at beach. Or if you are in diet and have to buy specific food for dinner from outside BECAUSE obviously the very little market in hotel doesn't sell all you need. This is all because they want to charge you ridiculous amount of money at hotel. So definitely recommend to carry a backpack and insert all your stuff you have bought from outside into it before entering to hotel.

4- Cost of all food and stuff in hotel little market is at least double the price you can find right outside of hotel. So don't be rip off by them.

5- Restaurant/Breakfast room staff sometime stand right beside your table and look at your dishes and how do you eat, which is so bizarre. (This is not a problem only in the hotel but in all other restaurants)

6- Finally if you wish to have a relax night at your room in hotel, this is not a right one for you. Activity noises after 8 o'clock runs till around 1 to 2 A.M. so you simply can not sleep before that time, because noises are so loud and well heard in rooms. Ear plugs didn't solve my problem either, so imagine what is the level of noise.

While hotel has lot of advantages which is explained by other users, I found above points as a disadvantage of this Hotel, probably same in other two hotels owned by same person. Sunset Plaza and Palmin.

went to the sea pearl with my boyfriend for a week and it was the bast holiday i have ever had. when we were on the bus to the hotel we were given a card to fill out which had are room numbers on it, when we arrived we were greeted my staff all dressed up, when we went in we just had to say are room number and a keys were given to us it took about a minute to check in they also had drinks for us on arrival the bell boys take care of your luggage. when we went to are room we were over looking the pool and there was lovely views of the sea. we decided to eat in the hotel and the food was amazing. we went down town that night and we got the dolmus bus from right outside the hotel for 2 lira (1 euro) and got a taxi back for 10 lira (5 euro) we got back to the hotel early enough and we had a few drinks there the entertainment in the hotel was first class although the comedy was not great they always had music on wend they have there barbecue which is 30 lira but well worth it they had Turkish dancers, belly dancers and then brake dancers they were all amazing and then to finish they had karaoke another night they had a live band which included a drummer, saxophone, bass and to guitars i have to say it was the best live band i have ever seen. every night they also have mini disco for kids although i don't have kids the hotel is well equipt for children. during the day they also have different things going on that Ozzy organises there is water polo, darts and pool tournaments. Ozzy also organises astro turf footie on a Tuesday and Thursday which is 20 lira. you would not have to leave the hotel if you did not want to they have a super market, jewelers, clothes shop, hairdressers and a spa i recommend getting a Turkish bath they are 12.50 euro get it on the first day tho. i would recommend this hotel to anybody it's amazing. and all the staff are great and they have time for everybody, they are always laughing and dancing away.

Just back from 2 weeks here- really wonderful. I love reading detailed reviews so apologies if this is long-winded-
Reception and Staff: On arrival the staff take your bags off the bus, ask your room no. and deliver them up to your door- brilliant esp when arriving late at night. Staff were always really friendly. You can exchange money without commission at the reception 24hrs which is a great service and when I was there they gave a better rate than Bank of Ireland.
Rooms: Rooms are very spacious with a decent enough balcony- not huge but enough to fit 2 chairs and a small table. All rooms have a fantastic view- both over the pool area and of the sea. The cleaners are incredible and I can't praise them highly enough. Our room was cleaned thoroughly every day of our stay and even tho we hung up our towels, they were changed every day. The fridge isn't great- small and really only for keeping water bottles from getting warm- not for making things cold. The shower is lovely- very powerful and there was always plenty of hot water.

Pool: We only stayed at the pool 3 days, only because we prefer the beach which was only a 5 min walk away. If you like quiet and relaxation by the pool don't count on it. As it's a real family hotel there are always activities being organised and music playing- water polo, aqua aerobics, yoga etc. The main guy who runs this- Ozzy- is super enthusiastic and does go around asking everyone if they want to participate- but if you say no that's fine- he doesn't hassle you at all. Great fun if that's what you like. It is often hard to get a bed by the pool- even tho the say they don't allow towels to be left on beds they don't seem to enforce this at all. We went on a tour one morn so were up at 7am and already people were out saving their beds with towels.
The pool bar also serves food during the day with a large variety of sandwiches, all-day breakfasts, baked potatoes, pizzas, omelettes, salads, and all very reasonable.

Restaurant: The food in the hotel is excellent and can't be faulted. A few other reviews seem to have overstated the price difference between the hotel and local restaurants. There is a max 3-4 lira (€1.50-€2) difference on any main course, and the quantity and quality of food you get in the hotel was often better so was worth the bit extra. We ate here 4 nights- the only reason we didn't every night was that we love to try different restaurants. But the hotel would def rate in the top3 of all we tried. The bar was a bit more expensive than outside bars- a cocktail was 15-18 lira (€7.50-€9) compared with an average of 10 lira (€5) outside and a bottle of the local beer was 6 lira vs 4-5 lira elsewhere.

Nightly Entertainment: We rarely stayed for this but on the 2 or 3 occasions that we did it was a bit tedious. Any Live Music they do is always good. They'll have a singer with a guitar during dinner which is lovely and then to end the night they usually have 2 guys on guitars. It's the in between that's not so good. On the night's we saw they ran a Miss Sea Pearl and a Best Couple competition- with 4 or 5 different games. It may have been interesting for those on stage but not for the audience- very boring. And even tho this is a family hotel there was a lot of sexual innuendo and 1 woman I was chatting to said she'd had to answer a few awkward Qs from her kids the night before. This does take place after 10.30pm but on holidays kids often stay up past midnight. I did hear good reports about the Fireshow, Synchronised swimming and Comedy shows tho which we didn't go to so maybe we were just unlucky.

Breakfast: The breakfast was really to my taste with huge choice including omelettes, scrambled and boiled eggs, french toast, variety of cheeses, cereals, meats, tomatoes, melon, apples, oranges, yoghurt, different breads, 6 diff types of juice etc. The only downside is that it's only served til 10am which is quite early so we didn't always get up. The pool bar also serves breakfast with a full irish for less than €6.

Day Trips: We went on the full day Ephesus Tour which I found really interesting- also takes in House of the Virgin Mary and St. John's Basilica. We also did the authentic Turkish Bath which was so relaxing. I'd recommend to do this early in the holiday as it helps with tanning afterwards. We also had a turkish bath in the hotel, which was more like a spa experience but also very enjoyable.

Locally: Ladies Beach is about a 5 min walk, with a lot of restaurants and bars running along it. The beach itself is very busy but we always managed to find 2 beds. Toward the end of our holiday we found another beach a few miles away which was heaven. It was called Tusan beach and the part we went to had plenty of beds and umbrellas with never more than 6 other beds taken when we were there. Like our own private beach- fabulous. The cost of renting the beds and umbrella is quite reasonable- 5 lira each. So 2 beds and 1 umbrella for €7.50.

The transport system is brilliant- the dolmus (No. 5/10)stops outside the hotel ever 2-3 mins and drops you to the centre of kusadasi for €1. To get to the beach above you get on the No 1 dolmus for €1.50 to Tusan, from where the No. 5 drops you off. Well worth the trip which takes about 30 mins in total.
Taxis are usually about 10 lira (€5) from the hotel to the centre. But be warned on the way back they can be more expensive- ALWAYS agree a price before you get in. We got caught one night to pay 25 lira home when the max should have been 15 lira. But the Dolmus runs til midnight if you want to use that.

I stayed in the Sea Pearl from August 7th for a week with my family. We booked with Sunway and the check in on the bus was fast and efficiant. On arrival, you are given your room key, your baggage is carried to your room and you recieve a lovely cocktail. We ate in the hotel restaurant on out first night and the food was fantastic. We had lunch on another occasion but ate dinner in the town centre. The staff in the hotel are brilliant. They are so friendly and would do anything for you. At nighttime they make sure you have plenty of popcorn to watch the entertainment! (Aydin!)

The entertainment in the hotel was a laugh and there was something for everyone. There would be a kiddies disco, comedy sketches, fire shows, kareoke and then some live music to finish the night off. Barbeque night in the hotel is a must! The food is gorgeous and there is PLENTY of it. There was traditional Turkish dancing, belly dancing and break dancing. Then they had a 'best couple' competition which my sister and her boyfriend took part in which was a good laugh. The entertainment team are great for getting an athmosphere going.

I wasn't expecting much for the breakfast in the hotel but was pleasantly surprised. There was cereal and the bread is so yummy! Then theres lots of eggs, an omlette station and lots of fruit etc. The pool is lovely and big and we spent a lot of time in it. There's always alot of activites going on in the pool aswell.

We didn't book any excursions in the hotel. Instead we went down to Ladie's beach and booked them with Jean Claude Van Damme at Sundial Travel Agencies. We went on the boat trip which is a MUST! We all enjoyed it so much and the lunch on board is lovely also. We also went to Adaland which was brilliant. And there wasn't too many people there which meant the wait time for the rides were very short compared to other waterparks we've been to in other countries. Also check out the market day on Wednsday which is alot of fun. Ephesus is GREAT for people that are interested in history. The day we went was 46 degrees and it was almost unbearable yet we enjoyed it alot. Go early when it won't be as warm.

If I was to reccomend any restaurants in the town I would say Golden Boys is the best. We ate here two nights and on the second night they had a banner up for mine and my sister's birthday and brought out a cake. The staff are so nice :) Also try Murphy's, Molly Malones and Planet Yucca, although the latter was actually quiet expensive. Halikaranas on Ladies beach is nice for some lunch.

Overall, our experience in Kusadasi was fantastic, better than we imagined it to be. I would love to return soon and Sea Pearl is definatley the place to stay :)
