We rolled up two days later than expected but we received a warm welcome by the reception staff in the early hours after a long transfer from Bodrum. Staff appeared to know about our predicament and were ready for our arrival. We were quickly whisked to our room by golf buggy and enjoyed our first nights sleep in a spacious two bedroom apartment overlooking the sea. The first signs were good.
The complex has a selection of clean pools and bars. It caters for all - inc Relax pool for quieter times, Activity Pool for organised games, Slides with attentive life guard, Family pool with canopy for toddlers. We are not early risers so were hunting sunbeds after 9am each morning but we were always able to find enough at the pool of choice each day (and we tried them all during our stay). Yes the use of drinking out of plastic cups was not ideal but I think this was to reduce the risk of broken glass in the pool areas.
Food at the main Sunset Restaurant was plentiful with lots of choice. Don't be expecting lots of English food (although Chips were a feature every night) but we enjoyed the show cooking including stir fry's, casseroles, soups, vegetables and deserts. We helped ourselves to drinks although some enjoyed waiter service at the table. Fresh orange juice a Breakfast was an extra one Euro. The sunset in an evening was spectacular and normally coincided with our attendance in the restaurant. We did not use any of the A La Carte restaurants as they were booked up when we tried to make reservations. (Top tip - book well in advance).
However food quality at the snack bars was poor. Burgers, nuggets, breaded chicken were all tasteless and obviously reheated. The Turkish Pita (pizza) was better but you had to wait in line for some time as it was cooked from fresh and each serving was quickly taken by the first one or two in the queue, who tended to take away enough to feed the 5000 - either limit the amount taken by each person or speed up the production. The Turkish pancakes made by the ladies by the pool areas were very tasty but once again they were made fresh and too many people were taking 3 or 4 at a time.
We did have some concerns that we shared with the hotel in a feedback form, which included lack of comfy seating at the main bar in the evening, but would also add that the evening entertainment in the auditorium started too late at 10pm. 9pm would have suited us better. Much of the entertainment programme did not excite us. Some of the music acts in the bar in an evening were second rate (the only one of note was the guitarist and saxophone player). I will also mention the 80's and 90's night which did make us smile for the wrong reasons - it started with songs from two 1970's films followed by a mix of Bill Haley hits, a solitary 80's song then salsa & belly-dancing display and a disco to Turkish music - not am 80's band in sight.
The beach was not up to standard though, especially when you consider it is a Beach Club. It needs cleaning of the seaweed more often and the surrounding areas were full of rubble and pipe-works. The water was lovely and clear. A little more effort would improve the experience.
Overall we had a great stay, using the Gym on a daily basis. The bus stop (and taxi rank) were right outside the hotel entrance which made travelling around much easier. The bus cost less than £1 each way to Kusadasi - a great place to go for a drink, meal (would recommend Planet Yucca and Murphy's Bar) or shopping.
Worthy of its 4 star rating, but no more.
