“Real cave rooms”
Reviewed 31 July 2012

We were dead set on finding a place with real cave rooms, and searching the net it was hard to tell what was what. we arrived at the bus station and the info desk called up to the hotel for us and a car came in 3 minutes. the hotel is up the hill (only a 5 minute walk from town) and is in a real cave. it is sandwiched between 2 other similar hotels and has a great view. we stayed in a regular double room with a view of the fairy chimneys. the room was decorated very nicely with traditional rugs and bedding. The shower was a little funny, and it was unfortunately hot in late july with no fan. breakfast on the terrace was a lovely buffet spread (turkish style) and the view is amazing! staff is quite friendly and happy to help...they even sent up a bottle of local wine for our honeymoon ;-)

For the price (we paid about 50$usd) for a real cave room, a nice breakfast and a great view, we think this is a great stay!

Room Tip: be sure your room has a view...it is a small hotel and it seems to me the room behind ours didnt ha...

Me and my sister spent 3 nights at this hotel and we really enjoied our permanence in Goreme. The hotel has a lot of folklore, in fact, the rooms are lovely carved in a cave, so cool and very comfortable: you have lots of space to move; a big bathroom with a spacious bath, hot water, air dryer, towels and slippers, shampoo and soap; tv, telephone and a fridge. The rooms are very clean and the woman who is cleaning provides every day to replace everything you need and tidy up the room perfectly. Also, the area is extremely peaceful, you get a restored sleep in a very soft bed.The staff is really kind, you must ask to the nice boy at the reception to book your tours and he is very helpful with everything. I can guarantee a 24 hours "service" cause I myself woke up him in the middle of the night and in 2 minutes he was there! I would suggest to book your balloon flight and tours directly in the hotel because it gives you choice to book a last minute. We booked our flight the night before and the shuttle came straightly to pick up us at the hotel. The food is a good quality, you can get fresh bread every morning and marmelade or a selection of cereals and milk, some fruit, eggs, and other stuff as tasty cheese and olivs. You also get beverage, tea coffee and orange juice. The nice thing is you are having your breakfast in a terrace impacting directly on Goreme village! A little boy at the hotel is helping to keep everything tidy and clean for you. Also, if something is missing he replaces it immediately. The boss is Hasan, a very kind and professional man. If you need any help he is always there to literally sort out the situation. The welcoming at the hotel is something that you must experience cause is part of the turkish culture and at Sunset it is a MUST!I would recommend to book the room and your tours directly through the web site cause if you do so you get free transportation from and to the airport (see the website)and it is really useful because you spend your time in total relax not having troubles, they care for you! Hasan owns also another hotel, email him to ask for this other building. This is a lovely style, different from this one and I would say emperial, with a wonderful panoramic sight!!! However, both the buildings are in the centre of Goreme the best starting point for visiting Cappadocia. Amazing price to get your amazing holiday! Five stars and I would surely give my first "tripadvisor trust" adhesive to this hotel.

I only stayed for one night at the Sunset Cave Hotel but I certainly would have stayed for longer if I could! It has a perfect location, just 5 minutes walk from the center and the otogar, but is a little more secluded so it is very calm and peaceful. The rooms are lovely and very cool and there is a beautiful terrace upstairs. The owner of the hotel, Hassan, is incredibly kind, considerate, and helpful. He organized two tours around Cappadocia for me and made sure that I was happy and comfortable. I highly recommend the hotel, and definitely recommend talking to Hassan about tours and travel in the region!

We spent three nights in the top cave room, which has the most amazing view of Goreme. Sitting on our terrace, at dawn, watching the hot air balloons flying overhead, was an experience we'll never forget. The room itself was very clean, but we had some difficulty using the shower, it leaked all over the place. Our hot air balloon ride organized by Hasan, was amazing.

The owner Hasan is a great host who picked us up from the bus station within minutes of the info counter ringing him. The hotel sits a top a hill with a great view from the top terrace. The rooms were spotless with a massive, tiled bathroom. The rooms were naturally cool because of the metals in the cave and thus ac was definitely not needed.

On top of assisting us in booking tours - which were equally excellent - Hassan went the extra mile to help us arrange to clean our laundry and picked it up himself and delivered it that evening itself.

The last day was the highlight of our stay. Hassan was not around as we left the hotel to head to the bus station, thinking we might sit by a nearby cafe and wait out the next 3 hours till our bus. he found us lugging our luggage down the hill and offered to keep our bags at his bus company booth (you heard me, he has his own bus company, goreme) and join him for tea at his new hotel, hotel ariathanes.

This new establishment, a stones throw away from sunset cave, is the most charming, beautiful, unique boutique hotel I have come across. There are no two similar rooms. Hassan explained that this hotel was much more upscale compared to sunset cave. He had designed the interior all by himself. I would recommend those who want a luxurious stay to consider this close to 5star accommodation.

We chatted on the hotel's rooftop over Turkish coffee and baklava about travels, culture, Singapore, turkey etc. After swapping emails and promising to keep in touch, we parted ways. Now back home, I can only hope Turkish hospitality rubs off on me.

Hassan has made our staying in Sunset cave really excellent! He took very good care of us, not only advising how to spend our 7 days in Goreme and Cappadocia, but also very friendly talking with us!
Each morning we felt really spoiled when he personaly prepare our breakfast, offering us delicious cheese, watermelon, dried fruits, local traditional bread, etc. Also sleeping in a cave room, traditionally decorated was a great feeling, it was like we get back in fairy tales from our childhood!
He takes good care of each client, finding time for each of them to have friendly talks and to laugh.
Although he is young he knows very well how to make tourism and he is a great business man. He has geat plans for local tourism. We were amased to see how professionally he decorated his second hotel in Goreme (choosing himself each of the materials, everything of great taste).
Good luck from Iulia and Marian, Bucharest, Romania

My friend and I stayed at this hotel after reading the positive reviews and looking at the pictures (furthermore we wanted to experience sleeping in a cave!).

And it did not disappoint. We arrived at Cappadocia at about 8 in the morning, well before the check in time, but Hasan (the hotel owner) personally picked us up from the bus terminal and let us have breakfast and assured us that the room will be ready in half an hour (which it was).

Throughout our 3 day stay there, Hasan has been friendly and extremely helpful, helping us to book tours, hot air balloon rides and even personally picking up our laundry at a laundromat because the laundry would only be available the next day!

Furthermore the hotel was within walking distance of the "town centre" and bus terminal so food and shopping were not a problem.

There were some previous comments about how the owner was absent, but this can be explained. My friend and I had a chat with Hasan on our last day at his hotel and he told us that he had been busy setting up his new hotel, which was why he was not around a lot of the time.

He then gave us a personal tour of his new hotel, Hotel Ariarathes, (which looked a-mazing and is on promotion now!) and treated us to baklava and coffee at the new hotel before finally bidding us goodbye.

Overall I would say that I had a wonderful time at Cappadocia thanks to Hasan. I would definitely recommend staying here, or at least his new hotel (it looked so awesome!!!). It's really good value for money.
