“The most popular restaurant in Goreme”
Reviewed 28 August 2014 via mobile

The most important thing to know is that you'll likely need to book this restaurant day's ahead. When we checked into our hotel, and asked them to get a reservation for us, they warned us that they would likely be booked during both of the night we were visiting (mid-week). Luckily they had one 6pm opening which we took since we had heard such great things.

Our experience was lovely. The restaurant itself is in a cave-like setting, which was originally an stable many years ago. We were served by a father/daughter duo. They were very attentive early on but the restaurant was still rather empty at that point. We appreciated their recommendations on how much to order. We appreciated that they weren't just looking to sell as much as they could. They warned us that the dinner plate mezze and one entree were enough for my wife and I to share.

The dinner plate mezze was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend anyone going to this restaurant to try it. It is an assortment of traditional Turkish foods. There was not a single item that we did not love. We ordered a lamb shank as our main dish. It was also quite tasty as it was spiced quite differently compared to the food we eat in the states.

One important thing to note is that the menu is not extensive. They have a few main dish options - at least one lamb, beef, chicken and vegetarian option. If you are looking for a lot of choice, this restaurant is not for you. Also, half of the seating is at tables and the other half is on the floor. If you have trouble sitting and eating on the floor you should let them know while you are reserving your table.

While we didn't have any issues with service since we were sitting smack in the middle of the dining room, we could definitely tell that the three tables behind us sitting on the floor were not thrilled. When the 7pm seating came in and were getting drinks, etc. it was clear to is that they were being ignored and not getting the service they expected. Ultimately the restaurant only had the father/daughter team as servers so a little waiting during seating times is to be expected.

We loved our experience and highly recommend.

Thank James M

“Make a reservation or you will miss out on this lovely place”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

We had eaten at too many poor touristy restaurants and my daughter found Topdeck. We didn't realize we needed a reservation and headed to find it anyway. Thank goodness we eat on the "early" side (7pm) and after them telling us that they had no space if we didn't have a reservation, the mother in this family run restaurant decided we probably weren't lingerers and showed us to a table. A great family run place (mother from South Africa, father from Turkey, wonderful English-speaking daughter, and I think an uncle). The mezes were great. We had two choices for Cappadocian red wine and we chose the cheaper one, I think it started with an "H" and it was very very good.
