“Wonderful Stay in Kelebek”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2012

We stayed at the Kelebek hotel for 2 nights from June 26 thru 28th.

We booked the suite room (one of the largest rooms they have) and it was beautifully decorated ver comfortable.

The staff is super helpful, made recommendations for private guides to see the underground cities, booked the Butterfly Balloons, and addressed any other questions we had.

Overall wonderful experience with the hotel and staff. Would defintely choose to stay here again and recommend it to those travelling to the area.

Special thanks to Hussain and Opa for making our stay so wonderful and going out of their way to make us feel welcome.

Room Tip: Would pick the suite room 110.

Our family of five people stayed in four different rooms over three nights (we changed rooms only because we added a night at the last minute and our previously booked rooms were unavailable for an additional night). There are so many reasons to stay at this hotel.

Service: From the moment we arrived until we were on our way to another area of Turkey we were provided excellent service from staff throughout the property. Hasan was especially helpful in reviewing our planned itinerary and making recommendations that turned out to be just the right decisions for us. He assisted us in choosing a tour through the hotel (we highly recommend the tour number three) and suggested which places we could see without investing in a tour. Everything worked out to our complete satisfaction.

The rooms: The rooms are quaint and nicely decorated as depicted on the website. We loved staying in the cave rooms - but if you are tall, be prepared to duck to enter/exit the bathroom! The temperature in the cave rooms was fine even during the heat of the day but you can request a fan be placed in your room if you prefer.

The grounds: The setting is lovely with beautiful views from everywhere. There are many charming places to sit and enjoy a bottle of (reasonably priced) wine. The pool is small but a definite plus - very nice to be able to take a dip in the cold water after hiking in the heat of the day. The area where meals are served is wonderful - lots of places to sit including a raised platform with cushions and pillows where guests seem to congregate with drinks, snacks, books, IPads etc.

Location: Yes, there is a bit of an uphill walk to the property but, in my opinion, not nearly as challenging as some previous reviewers have described. Goreme is a great base for exploring the area.

This was our favorite hotel during our trip in Turkey and rates as one of our all-time favorites!

Our cave room was very clean and comfortable with its own downstairs bathroom. Our room had a sitting area and outdoor terrace with a view over Goreme. Hassan made us feel most welcome personally introducing us to the hotel and explaining tour options and ballooning. Tea was served all day on the appealing terrace, a great place to meet other travellers and swap travel tales. The indoor lounge areas offered a variety of places to relax. The breakfast buffet was extensive, omlettes cooked freshly on request. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Service was attentive. Dinner was also good value and delicious. A most enjoyable hotel in an amazing location. We were able to select our room on the website.

Room Tip: Excellent opportunity to select from website. Fairy chimneys appealing but had shared bathrooms.

We stayed 3 nights at Kelebek and were delighted with our quaint cave rooms - we stayed at the presidential suite for 2 nights and then were shifted to the stone rooms near the hamam area for 1 night. Both rooms were equally good and the suite had a quaint balcony overlooking the goreme. The hotel has a small pool and a rose garden which is delightful. The staff was warm friendly and service exceptional. Only one complaint we had taken a full day tour and our guide was not very knowledgeable but to make that up the balloon tour was spectacular and the highlight of our trip in Turkey....

Room Tip: Watch out for the rooms with a lot of stairs especially for the elderly people - must email the hote...

How fun to have a room carved out from those enchanting conical shapes dispersed throughout the valley of Gerome.

How wonderful to meet the hotel manager, Hasan, who was so friendly and helpful with suggestions we should do in the region.

What a great location for its outdoor terrace overlooking the town of Gormeme where we could have a beer or wine in the afternoon or a delicious breakfast in the morning.

I would recommend this enchanting place to anyone. Thanks Hasan.

Randy B.

We had a comfortable and wonderful stay at the Kelebek for three nights. The staff was incredibly helpful and made us very welcome. The food was very good and the restaurant staff, in particular, was very warm. Our room was charming and had all of the extras we needed. The only two drawbacks were the acoustic-- we heard the early risers a bit too well-- and the pool, which was too small, especially when we learned it was being shared with the Kelebek's sister hotel.

Room Tip: there are pictures of each room on line; have fun
