Came here in early April 2014 as a couple staying in one of the small double cave rooms. Arrived 5 hours before check in time but was no problem to hold our luggage and wait. We were also invited to have a buffet breakfast on the beautiful terrace overlooking Goreme.
The one highlight of the stay is the staff - Ive never been anywhere where I have felt more looked after. The reception staff are always looking to help direct you on the best hikes etc and keep you informed.
Overall highly recommend for anyone staying in Goreme as this place is a class act

We stayed three nights in Room 17 at the Kelebek Hotel. Overall we’d recommend this property, although not without reservation. We’d probably give it a 3.5 rating if we could.

First the positives.

The General Manager, Matt, was extremely helpful. He gave us a good briefing about things to do in the area, but without pushing their sister businesses (Turkish Heritage Travel and Butterfly Balloons) too hard. (We actually ended up taking a tour with the former, and enjoyed it as well as the 10 Euro discount for Kelebek guests). As we weren’t going to the airport until after 2pm at checkout time he also offered us use of the showers and fresh towels if we wanted them, and was happy to let us store our own drinks in the fridge in reception throughout our stay.

Room 17 has wonderful views from a private terrace over the valley, which was an excellent place to watch the balloons in the morning. It was also very atmospheric sleeping in a room that looked like it had been carved out of rock.

The Hotel also has excellent public areas both for breakfast, or just sitting with a coffee or something stronger and enjoying the view, and while Wi-Fi reception is theoretically possible the thickness of the stone walls apparently makes in-room Wi-Fi impossible, and even the reception in the public areas was a bit hit and miss. The wine and beer prices in the bar are reasonable, and the Hotel cats very friendly and decorative. Breakfast has a reasonable range, including a lot of dried fruit and nuts.

Now for some of the less positive points.

We booked a private transfer costing 70 Euro through the hotel, and were a bit surprised to be picked up in a fairly battered old nine seater bus with ripped seats by a driver who said not a word to us for the whole hour of the journey from Kayseri airport. I guess for that price we were expecting something a lot smarter, with a warm welcome from a Hotel staff member and maybe some complimentary water. We would have been much better off with the regular airport shuttle, which if booked through the Hotel costs only 10 Euro per person and is actually a nicer bus.

The room itself was smaller than it looks online, and didn’t have the same furnishings. The shower area drains were a bit smelly, and the room is directly above the Hamman, so it was quite warm even in mid April. We’d imagine it would be uncomfortably hot in summer.

Unfortunately we couldn’t keep a window open at night, even with good earplugs, because of dogs across the valley barking all through the night. (This may be the reason they all seem so tired in the daytime). The room also lacks tea-making facilities, but you can get tea or coffee from the breakfast area if you don’t mind the hassle of bringing it back down the many stairs.

We were also disappointed with the appearance of the swimming pool, which was a dark green swamp, with quite a bit of rubbish floating in it (see picture). While it was still a bit cool for swimming, we don’t think the Hotel should allow it to be in such a state, even if no one is using it. It was an eyesore, and the Hotel would be much better placed purchasing a pool cover to prevent it getting this way in the off season.

There is also some scope for improvement in the kitchen. While omelettes and scrambled or fried eggs are available on request, the only omelette ingredients available were cheese and tomato, and they couldn’t do poached eggs. There is practically no English spoken by the waiting staff, and they weren’t as proactive in anticipating guests’ needs as they could be. (We’d recommend packing them off for a weeks customer service training at the Hotel Amira in Istanbul!). It also seemed a bit stingy charging people for any additional bottles of water above the daily one bottle per person room limit.

While it wasn’t a problem for us, anyone with any sort of mobility issues should think twice about staying here. As well as the steep 200 metre climb up from the town, within the Hotel itself there are lots of stairs to get to both the bedrooms and the public areas and many places where you could loose your footing.

We stayed here for 2 nights in Deluxe cave room #7 at a reasonable price and even got a discount for paying in cash.

Breakfast has sufficient varieties and has a breathtaking view of the valley and the colorful hot-air balloons..... And restaurant serves complimentary coffee and tea the whole day/night.
Very Friendly and helpful staff.
The room size is adequate but the bathroom counter is a tad small, but I guess that's more than what you can expect from a "cave".
The hotel is close to center of town, about a 10 min walk, albeit on a steep incline.
Free Wifi is available only at lobby and restaurant but at cave#7, I can get wifi if I stand by the door.
Overall, an excellent stay in magical Capadoccia!

From the moment we arrived by shuttle, we were treated as though we were returning not as though we were guests for the first time. We arrived before check-in time, no problem. Upon entering the living room (reception area), we were greeted warmly by Mert and told he would be right with us after we were shown around the hotel. He was, during that time, water was brought to us, and our luggage was taken to our rooms, we stayed in the terrace suite number 17, and my brother in the mini suite room 19 (quite spacious and right across the wood for the fireplace, and the pool). Our room was a bit smaller, but had the extra large terrace overlooking the valley. We had our drinks later in the day here.

Mert listened to what we had in mind to do during our 3 day stay and made suggestions, equipped us with maps, and checked with us again during our visit to make sure we were fine. Take his suggestions, but do not hesitate to let him know if something is not for you. By the 3rd day, I honestly wanted to do something else than visit more caves or hot air balloon, I was interested in checking out the town above us. No problem, he told us the best way to go about this, what was there, what used to be there, and offered us further assistance if we needed it. He reminded us that even though we checked out that day, that we were not checked out that we were still his guest and to use whatever we like at the hotel. Visiting a place for the first time, with no tour guide, this place is such a strength and peace in the midst of all the explorations. The entire time we felt we had been here before and were coming home each evening. I highly recommend this place and will stay here again. There is no place with a better view, there is also a Haman here, but we did not use it. We did use the fireplace at night though.

Room Tip: We had rooms, 17 (a suite with a terrace- definetly worth it) and my brother had the Jr. suite, room...

All I can say about it in one word is "It is Wonderful". Excellent location for scenic view, service, location and food. Also they provide drop-off to bus stand (Ottogar). We were highly impressed with the personalized services by the hotel Manager Mr. Mert Kura.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms at the top which go get a panoramic view of the city / Vally around it. Don...

My two daughters and I were in Turkey for a week and spent 1 night at Kelebek hotel. From reservation through checkout, the staff were very professional and helpful. They arranged the shuttle service and co-ordinated reservations for the balloon ride and religious tour. When we arrived at the hotel, we were treated as extended family and not just as paying guests. We stayed in a suite room which was spacious for the 3 of us and enjoyed the hot shower in the large bathroom. The breakfast had excellent variety for vegetarians and the views from the rooftop cafe were incredible. The staff also offered to drop us at the Open Air Museum since we had limited time to walk around before returning to the airport. This is definitely a hotel that we would recommend to family and friends and hope to visit again in a future trip.

After my stay of 3 nights at Kelebek, I understand why it is ranked no. 1 on tripadvisor. January is not the best time to go to Goreme, but the price is unbeatable. The hotel and the staff are simply superb. I enjoyed my room, big, clean and cozy (they gave me an upgrade), and their breakfast is the best I have ever had for all the places I have been (I have traveled to more than 20 countries, not a lot, but enough to make my judgement).
