“The Goreme Experience”
Reviewed 5 December 2009

Kelebek's architecture is a bit unimaginative -- the way the room had been cleaned up and squared off took away most of the sense of being in a cave. This also was one of the first cave hotels, and it is clear that the rooms are no longer new. That said, the hotel is set high above Goreme, and its lovely public spaces command sweeping views. There is a pool that must be magical in the summer. The breakfast is epic. But if we could do it over again, we might just stay in a cheaper, less squared away cave hotel. The cave is the point, after all.

I had the privilege to stay in their Presidential Suite - Room 111 for 2 nights. It was worth the money albeit a bit expensive. It was spacious and with fantastic views of the Pigeon Valley and all around. Early in the morning, we can see hot air ballons from the window of our room. We open up all the curtains to soak in the beautiful views of Goreme.

Service in Kelebek hotel is good and the staffs are always smiling and ready to help as reported in all other reviews. We tried the Hamam and we enjoyed the Turkish bath. Both nights, we had dinner at the hotel restaurants as it was too cold to walk to town and would rate is as okay. The chicken cutlet was delicious.

In all, this is a pleasant cave hotel ane would strongly urge others to stay here instead of some modern hotels.

We stayed at the Kelebek in Room 17 (a junior suite) for 5 nights in early November. We flew into Nevsehir airport (one flight a day) and arranged the airport pickup thru the hotel. Our room was wonderful...lots of space, great bed, a fireplace (which we used every night cause it was cold outside)(there is heating of course, but nothing like a fire in your room for romance), our own private terrace that we used to watch the morning hot air balloons and to talk story with the resident cats (who surprisingly ate and enjoyed our olives left outside our window...). We had a fun wooden door with a big key. The bathroom is fine, tho a litlte small as the toilet is behind the door. Great shower and plenty of hot water. This hotel is like a maze of walkways and stairs and more walkways. Got lost in the begining just trying to find our room back...so many ways you can go from our room to the upstairs terrace and out to the town of Goreme. We ate dinner one evening as the rain had picked up. Very good meal by a wondeful fire in the dining area. Enjoyed some wonderful discussions with other guests in the lounge area. Always able to get on one of the 2 complimentary computers for guest use (and english keyboard, which made it much easier to use). The Kelebek cats were so fun, and the resident dog equally so...as he loved to chase the cats. The staff were always helpful...getting us firewood, giving info as needed. Felt like our own llittle family by the time we left. Our weather during the 5 days was everything from misty rain, to heavy rain, to amazing snow to wonderful sunshine. We had it all. Thank you all for an amazing adventure among the fairy chimneys.

Aside from our late night arrival (3am) and being told our room was not available, being sent to another hotel, and dealing with that hassle, Kelebek swiftly made amends with outstanding service, apologizing for the inconvenience and assuring the rest of our stay would be smooth. This hotel has the best character and charm of any I've stayed in, complete with fairy chimney rooms, a multitude of hidden away terraces with excellent views and playful Kelebek kittens, outstanding breakfast, and the hamam turkish bath, sauna, and massage is a must-do. Great location just a 5 minute walk to the bus station and city center. Exceptional staff.

We stayed in a teeny cave room for three nights in November - when it was snowing in Cappadocia! - and I cannot rate this wonderful hotel highly enough. The staff were friendly, charming and helpful and the room was adorable. The breakfasts were really good and we were given free tea whenever we wandered into the dining room to check the internet or stroke the cats and dogs.

The location was lovely and I would wholly recommend this place to anyone, magical.

This hotel was great value for the money. Location was great. Great architecture, great vibe, great staff. Staff were really helpful - and gave us lots of little tips to help make our stay more comfortable. Room was more than comfortable (a lot of Turkish hotel rooms are barely comfortable) - only problem was lighting was not great in the room, but this was a minor thing.

The hotel might have been a tiny bit more expensive than some others (not a great deal) but I would say it was worth the extra.

Breakfast was good. Restaurant food was so so - quality was good, but didn't particularly stand out as anything special.

Perched on a hilltop in a valley surrounded by “fairy chimneys”, the rooms in this hotel are carved into the hillside, as befits the Cappadocia area. Our four nights here were enjoyable, the days spent touring the countryside. In early November, the place was nearly full, which may be due in part to the TripAdvisor reviews. At this time of year, high occupancy rates are a rarity, so Kelebek has quite a reputation.

The rooms vary significantly in size, and our middle sized room 19 was perfect for us. Just across from the little swimming pool (which we couldn’t use during freezing weather) and 100 feet or so from the dining/lounge area, we were pleased with everything about the room but the dim lighting which we often find these days. We took advantage of the sauna on premises at extra cost, and some of our friends had a Turkish Bath in the facility on premises. There was a nice breakfast each morning, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The views of the surrounding countryside, and the sunrises and sunsets, were spectacular for us in early November.
