“Great hotel but avoid room 2!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2010

This hotel has some really huge plus points: goreme location, views, wait staff, terrace/deck area, etc.
BUT unfortunately it also has some significant negatives: food was overpriced and worst we had in all of turkey (husband believes his food poisoning was from their food) and room 2 was pretty bad - extremely hot even in September end, no ventilation, dank and dark, one and only window opened out to the bottom of the busy stairway leading to terrace area - resulting in a LOT of noise and zero privacy, bathroom was teeny tiny, not even enough room to disrobe, hang anything (no hooks anyway) or place any toiletteries anywhere. No room to turn or bend in the shower, plus it stank. Absolutely zero ventilation in bathroom (no window or exhaust) meant that all smells went into the bedroom.
Also, there are many stray cats all over turkey but none that begged as badly as the ones at kelebek. This was super annoying when trying to eat brekky or anything in the terrace resturant. Now I dont mind cats (not even when we find a dirty one on our bed one afternoon) but if you have a cat allergy you mind need to bring your pills. One night I almost stepped on a cat in our room, after that had to shut the window to avoid having the cat walk all over our bed while we're asleep- this made the room unbearably hot however hotel staff DID give us a pedestal fan when we requested one.

We stayed in room 5, one of the fairy chimneys, and it was awesome - just enough space for a nice, comfortable bed and to put our bags down.

We arrived in Goreme about 8am from the overnight bus from Istanbul and thought we would just go drop our bags at the hotel and get going. When we arrived, the staff insisted we have breakfast (free) and said we could even take a shower if we liked before our room was ready.

The view was awesome from our little chimney window and the terrace and the breakfast was great too. Definitely recommend.

I'm so grateful for the positive reviews of the Kelebek Hotel that led me to it. The manager has excellent knowledge of the area and is so patient . Rooms are lovely, and there are a number of other hotel spots to hang out in. I watched the sunset from the deck every night. The walk up the hill may be challenging for some, but there's a shortcut up some steep steps leading to the small swimming pool.

Turkish Heritage Tours was on site with additional support for my journey through the incredible landscape. I'm a 65 year-old woman, and thinking that my walking might not hold up for the full-day tours, I chose the jeep safari. Although it's a rough ride in spots, it was the highlight of my 3-week stay in Turkey.

The excellent facilities at the Kelebek and its own travel agency meant that we were able to get the most out of our three days in the region. The rooms were very comfortable, service good and location fantastic. They organised balloon flights, guided tours and restaurants for us, all of which I can recommend highly.

We stayed in one of the suites. A beautiful cave room with lots of room and a very nice bathroom with a large spa bathtub. It was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast (included in the cost) was the best we had while in Turkey. Wonderful dried fruits, yogurt, etc. with something different every morning. The view from the porch was breathtakingly beautiful and it was absolutely spectacular to sit and watch the hot air balloons every morning. The staff was extremely helpful.

One of the highlights of our month long trip to Turkey, Egypt and Greece was the 3 nights we spent at the Kelebek. The room, the view, the tours, the turkish bath & breakfasts were great. The highlight was waking up to strange sounds outside our room (102) to view multiple hot air balloons literally right outside our room. This was on the morning of our 38th anniversary - we were told that there was 38 balloons out that day. What a sight and what a memory. And what a sight to see all the other people staying at the Klebek outside in their pajamas and underwear sharing the same sight :) The service was good - only exception was my my husband dragged his suitcase up the hill while a staff member watched him - once he made it to the top of the hill the same staff member that it needed to be taken to a different area "down that same hill". It would have taken him a second to tell him before he made it to the top! Cappadocia is a magical place and the Kelebek Hotel is great place to experience it from.
