I still think it is a must do, but the crowds made it a little less enjoyable. Maybe time your trip early or late to avoid the big bus groups. Some areas didn't allow photography inside. The Dark Church is worth the claustrophobic short but steep climb and the extra Lira I thought. The audio guide was somewhat helpful but the earphones they give you are not condusive to sharing so bring your own earbuds if you want to have 2 people listen to one audioguide.

had a wonderful 4 days in the Cappodocia region of Turkey where we spent a lot of time around Goreme, from the Open Air Museum, to the open air of the surrounding countryside. Different and unusual countryside, mountains of Tuff the rock between basalt and pumice, where early Christians and local inhabitants carved their homes into the rocks. the churches and chapels dedicated to the saints, painted walls and grand arched ceilings aplenty. Never mind the daunting steps and slopes every view is worth the effort. The early morning jaunts into the countryside for the multi coloured and multi passenger balloon flights over almost lunar landscapes - truly wonderful. Photographers dream!

As other reviews have noted, this is a fascinating place. To get to see many of the churches carved into the rocks entails the ability to climb steps and in and out of stone doorways and passageways. It's lovely to see the religious paintings inside.
This would be very difficult for a person with mobility problems to enjoy fully due to the all of the climbing around. One could stay on the flat areas and just look at the outsides though.

If you have only one place to visit in Turkey outside of Istanbul then this is it. The formations in Love Valley were wonderful and the way people had and were still living in caves was amazing.
