Reviewed 11 March 2014

We were unsure when we made the booking - but we were VERY pleasantly surprised. Doors of Cappadocia is a beautiful hotel, has very nice rooms, and has very friendly staff who help lan your visit. The morning breakfast is also pretty good - it's not extravagant - but still pretty filling.

Would heavily recommend to anyone who is looking for a decent budget hotel !

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the Doors Of Cappadocia. From the start of the visit to leaving, the staff was very attentive and supportive. Our room (105) was fabulous. A really nice size with a beautiful bathtub. It is very cold in Goreme right now, so a daily bath was a much appreciated thing. The town is pretty quiet being January, so the hotel was as well. Yuksil, the activities director, was fabulous from the minute we got to the hotel. He suggested restaurants and activities and often even drove us himself. He's incredibly knowledgable about the area, so it was really interesting. He organized our balloon ride, ATV excursion and half day mini bus tour. The breakfast was tasty, especially the 'Turkish pancakes'.

A friend and I stayed at Doors of Cappaocia for two nights. The room is very luxuriously appointed. There is luxury soaps and products. The sheets are high quality pure cotton. The bed was quite comfortable. Location couldn't be better; it's right in the heart of Göreme - walking distance to restaurants, banks and shops. We arrived at night; the site was quite impressive. Obviously, a lighting designer was used. The hotel is lit in the most dramatic fashion. In fact, the whole place was beautifully designed. Nice touches in the court yards are the antique pieces that accent the new building. The breakfast was again stylishly presented and we were offered omelets as well as cold breakfast. View from the breakfast room is outstanding.

We were at the hotel in the dead of winter and our cave room was heated very nicely. Hot water and water pressure was great. The shower, again, is quite luxurious, a sunflower shower head.

The hotel arranged our balloon ride which was spectacular. We didn't want a large tour group to tour the valley so we asked the hotel to arrange a private tour guide. The guide was learned - really knew her stuff - in addition to being charming. Their recommendations were spot on in these matters. You have a lot of choices with tours and balloons and being able to trust their recommends is a big plus.

My only issue would be that the room is designed in a modern style so the shower and toilet are not terribly private. This is a style choice and couples might like this but I was traveling with a friend so I found that less than ideal. I had booked through Hotels.com and there seemed to be some issue upon check out with my prepaid status. All was straightened out with the backup emails I provided. The staff was very very polite throughout the entire matter. Service seems to a big priority here, and they did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend Doors.

Doors of Cappadocia is beautifully located in goreme. Great views of the balloons and wonderful breakfast. I have stayed in goreme 4 times and this was one of the best experiences I have had. The manager Perihan is simply the best. She was so helpful and kind. She arranged a tour with their tour guide Yuksel. He was amazing. He was so knowledgeable about the area and really took good care of us. He was the best guide we ever had. Totally trustworthy. If you decide to stay here ask for him. He will not steer you wrong. Cant wait to return.

Who doesn't dream of a hotel in a cave? Well okay maybe not everyone though when you know you are going to Cappadocia the land of caves then you expect to. What appeared to be a beautiful stone castle like building was actually (like most in Goreme) built onto the existing caves.
First let me share the drawback - sound travels funny and we had an extremely noisy family next door and absolutely everyone gets up to take the sunrise balloon tour. The problem is you took it on a Friday and the folks next door do it the next day etc. So essentially everyone in the complex gets up or awakened at 6 like it or not.
The other drawback was there were no real reading lights...we love to read while traveling and it was quite difficult.
Now the room was cozy - well the suite was cozy. Radiant floors and decent furnishings made hanging out in the room a real pleasure. Add the ambient lighting in the cave cubbies and it was nearly ethereal. The bathroom was exceptional with its large jet tub and walk in shower. The ceiling had additional lights in the carved out recesses lending a wonderful touch.
As we were off season the restaurant was really only open for breakfast. By the way do not expect hot food. Warm was the word of the day - each day. The breakfast staff were young and not well trained in my opinion to really take care of diners. The management were extremely friendly and accommodating (especially with regards to the noisy family next door).
There are vistas galore around the lobby and above for balloon watching or catching glimpses of the castle in the neighboring town above.
The location was perfect as you were only 1.5 blocks from nearly every restaurant, shop and even the hamam. More posh restaurants or ones with views you needed a ride - at least with the snow and ice at this time of year we did.
We had the great fortune to meet Yuksel Demirci - a locally born guide. Yuksel is one of those friendly types who clearly loves his hometown and shares the best of it with us. As a tourist you can be overwhelmed by the rare and odd beauty of this region and he did his absolute best at making it all palatable and real for us. I was told to ask for the best restaurant to enjoy the Testi Kabobs (pottery kabob) so he drove us up the hill during the day to meet the owner of Nostalji and get our reservation for the perfect table with a view for later that night. (see excellent review)
When I shared that I wanted to buy Kilim's like the ones on the seats in the hotels Renault he made that possible. Essentially we had his help for days as a private tour guide and could not have asked for a better service.
Wander about the hotel and grounds. While we were there we entered via the lower level and not the official entrance as work was being done. There are caves and passageways beneath the entire complex and I believe a spa is in the works.
I would love to visit again during the warmer months to watch the balloons and enjoy the pool. For now my winter memories are enough.

Room Tip: Ask for a cave suite.

The most important factor – no hot water in the mornings. We stayed for 3 nights/days and we had to leave all mornings without a shower. Literally they were freezing cold water. Despite complaining about it several times, they couldn’t fix it. The only answer they had was “sorry, we’ve been facing power outage”. Our tour guide from this hotel – Yukcell was extremely helpful, very knowledgeable about Turkey, their history, culture, religion, current affairs etc., Ask for him, if you’re looking for an Personal guide. Couldn’t have asked for anyone better. The hot water part was a big turn off, especially when you’re paying over $170/night, you would expect a better service but it just wasn’t there.
Also, the day we checked out, there wasn’t anyone to help us with our bags. It was a rainy night, to walk down the stairs (reception is almost on the 3rd floor) in the open, all by ourselves with the luggage was ridiculous. No elevators either.

The Doors of Capadocia is probably the best choice you can make if visiting Göreme in Cappadocia. It has nice big rooms, also "caverooms" which look like ancient cave flats you find all over the mountains, but offer the luxury of modern society, so you will not freeze. The staff is nice and very helping. I was there for about four days, and really felt home. The experience was very unique and it made me really feel like traditional times, when people lived here in caves they carved into the stones for real.
Going to Cappadocia is the high point of any journey in Turkey. You will find a landscape which seems not from this planet.Sugar cane formed mountains in white and yellow, and rocks differing from bizzare gravity resisting forms to mushrooms and giant phallus. You will not believe your eyes.

Room Tip: ask for cave rooms
