“Quiet, clean, and friendly hotel in Goreme”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

We stayed here for three nights. Our double room is very neat and tidy. The bathroom is spacious. A heater is provided inside the room as the temperature can drop to very low at night and morning. The hotel is about 5 to 10 min walk to the town center and the main bus station.

The owner Mr. Suleyman is a very friendly guy. He helped us to make calls to the tour operators/taxis to ensure that we get picked up on time by the tours that we'd booked.

The breakfast provided in the cafe is simple and nice. They have cereals, milk, bread, cheese, various bread spread, boiled eggs, local greens, cakes, pancakes, and etc. Every evening dinner can be ordered and served inside the cafe. You just need to write down your room number and the no. of pax on the white board. The chef Ms. Zeliha is a local who can cook very well. I would recommend anyone who visits Cappadocia to stay here and enjoy the delicious traditional dinner served (20 TL per person) by Shoe String.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground floor to avoid having to carry your luggage using the staircase. The Wi...

It was quite an interesting stay in shoe string.

At the first night I stayed in a cave dorm, the dorm was kinda zoned into 3 parts by the arch support of the cave. The room was nite and the linen was tidy. The shared bathroom and toilet were right outside the dorm( clean and well-equipped as well), so it was really cost-effective to stay in dorm considering the hearty breakfast buffet. ( the dinner served in shoe string was quite reasonable, 20TL containing salad, pudding, main course, Turkish rice and countless white bread).

The second day I move to a standard cave room on suite, it was on the second floor with a lovely window towards the courtyard. The bathroom was spacious but it was kind of noisy as people kept passing by the corridor even at midnight. Although I was almost drunk( thanks to the Efes Black Beer),, I was still woken up several times. Though, i still missed the day when I sat beside my door to reach the wifi in the courtyard( you can hardly connect to the wifi when closing the door in your room), the yards was lovely, with plenty of lively botanic. And you can even say HI to people you met in the lobby.

Thanks to the poor wifi connection in rooms, the courtyard becomes a good spot to meet people and share information, as people either gather in the courtyard or sit on their window or door near the courtyard to get wired!

The host Otkay was really helpful and kinda black humor actually. The only pity was the swimming pool still empty in April.

We're a group of 5 in our late 20s. Shoestring took care of all our needs. Rooms were clean, tidy, and warm. They have their own bar open 24/7. We went on the green tour, hot air ballooning and had a Turkish bath. Excellent Turkish style breakfast.

Our stay at Shoe String was great. We arrived late, so there was initial confusion as the manager was not on duty when our bus came in at 11pm, but things were organized immediately. The room was very cute with a great tiled bathroom. It was so unique to stay in a cave like room and you could tell Shoe String was constructed right into the rock! The facility was very unique with an open courtyard in the middle, seperate buildings for different services, like a breakfast room on top on the 3rd floor of the complex with an amazing view. Breakfast was some of the best breakfast we have had in Turkey with lots of variety.

Management was very helpful in helping to arrange a hot air balloon flight for us and even helping with a wake up call so we didnt miss it! They also reccommended restaurants, helped with bus fares/organization and even let us store our bags and use the facilities after we checked out and were waiting for our bus. Truly a great time.

Great loacation being about 3 blocks from the main street. Easy to get lay of the land the first day.

Highly reccommend Fat Boys restaurant in Goreme! The name threw us off but it was the best lamb we had in Turkey our entire trip of 5 cities! Also, Sedef Cafe is a great lunch spot that is helpful with directions.
