“Good value”

We were 1 night in this pension in August. We slept in a double room with private bath. The place is very quiet, and the staff is very helpful. It isn't the closest place to the open-air museum, but it has a good location. The room was big enough and clean. For breakfast we could choose: turkish breakfast or fried eggs. There is only one computer with internet service, but it's free to use. It's a good place to explore the heart of Cappadocia.

Goreme is a magical place in the heart of Cappadocia. Just driving to the town takes your breath away when you first see the fairy chimneys and other rock formations. Goreme is an excellent base for hiking, shopping, and visiting the underground cities.

Many people come to Goreme wanting to stay in a "cave" hotel. We did not care, so we looked for a comfortable place, with a pool, and a backpacker vibe. That is exactly what we found at Rock Valley Pension!

This place was exactly what a backpackers should be. It had friendly helpful staff, especially the Dutch co-owner Mariam. It also had wonderful space for mixing with other backpackers. As such we never ate alone and always had hiking buddies. It was fantastic.

And just like our world-wide favourite backpackers (Gringo Pete's in Costa Rica) this hostel had NO TV. Therefore we all had to talk and share and become friends. And yes, we would say that world-wide this is our second favourite backpackers and we have been travelling around the world for FOUR YEARS so have stayed at many!

Our room was an ensuit double. The bathroom and bed was spotlessly clean, although the carpet seemed like it could use a deep scrub, but it was not bad. We had endless hot water, although some people seemed to have problems with that. In addition to our double bed, our room had a single (we put our packs on that) and a nightstand. That was all. So definitely basic -- but we were happy with that as it encouraged us to go to the common areas and interact with the other guests.

I did think the room was ever so slightly expensive at US$35 per night, however, it was one of the cheapest in town. Turkey is just not the bargain destination it once was. The dorm rooms were a bargain at only US$10 per night. And although they were small, everyone we talked to really enjoyed the dorms.

The price did include breakfast (which was very good!) and wifi in the common areas. We also got as much travel help as we could possibly want. Mariam spent hours with us discussing all the sites in Turkey and helping us decide what to see. She even booked our blue cruise and our tour around Cappadocia. But nothing was high pressure, you only got advice if you asked and she was not worried if we booked with her or not -- we just found it a useful service.

I should also mention that Rock Valley had a nice pool.

We were glad we stayed here and even booked extra nights once we arrived. I would highly recommend Rock Valley and if we ever return to Cappadocia we would definitely stay here again!

I stay in pensions expecting less amenities than a hotel, but more personal attention and lower prices, and at Rock Valley, you get a good degree of comfort and a ton of personal service and friendly attention. The rooms are managed by Miriam, whose multiple languages include fluent English, as well as her native Dutch, Turkish, and ???. She is on top of informing you about local hikes, and tours near and far, as well as general tips for independent travel in Turkey. If anything is wrong with your room, it will be dealt with immediately!
There is a pool, but before June and after September, it won't have water. There are some nice outdoor pavilions for relaxing, and in the evening or on inclement days, the indoor lounge is roomy and comfortable.
The pension is at the edge of town, a couple of blocks from restaurants, shopping and the otogar, but bvacking right into a scnic agricultural valley with beautiful rock formations, meaning very quiet nights. Breakfast is good, with access to tea, coffee, and apple tea at other times. There are better places to eat dinner, but if it's cold and rainy and you want to stay close to a warm stove, you won't starve.
Free internet is available, and Miriam will help you arrange onward travel. The radiant heaters provided, and the demand hot water heaters, mean that even in the colder months, you'll be warm and comfortable. There are many pensions in Goreme, but at the prices Rock Valley charges for the hominess and service you receive, you won't find a better deal.

We stayed 2 nights in Goreme and saw the sights of the area. We took the south bus tour and enjoyed it and found it well worth the 50 lira.
The Cappadoccia Rock Valley Pension was a nice clean hostel with a pleasent breakfast and polite host. It has a pool, but it was winter when we were there so it was not in operation. The location is great - close to food and hiking. The price was very reasonable. Towels were available for a small charge. Laundry machines were available.

The pension was really cheap so we didn't expect very much but it was excellent. The rooms are nice and clean, the breakfast is delicious (you can choose yourself which was great after so many tomato-cucumber breakfasts in Turkey) and the pool very refreshing. The staff is friendly and helpful. We definitely recommend it.

Rock Valley is a great place with a nice owner. He really made us feel welcome. The rooms have central heating which is absolutely necessary in this time of the year. The stove in the restaurant/lounge adds to the charm of the place. The owner is a good cook and the cheap meals were excellent value for money. Definitely a place to recommend!!

We must compliment the guys at Rock Valley Pension for making us feel at home straight away. When we arrived they just opened up after the winter break. They have great, clean rooms and a homely lounge room, where you can enjoy free hot drinks all day long. The service is immaculate and the staff very very friendly. Great breakfast too!!
If we go back to Goreme, we'll definitely stay here again! Thanks!
