“friendly atmosphere”
Reviewed 16 May 2010

Although we only spent two nights here we would strongly recommend to stay here. Our room was completely inside the cave, clean and with a nice fireplace. Breakfast was home made, plenty of traditional turkish food that made you start the day with a smile. Friendly atmosphere, family feeling and the guy who runs the place is very helpful and attentive. We forgot something in our room and he even brought it himself to the travel agency. A place I would come again

Great location, only a few mintues walk from the centre of town. (With free pick-up & drop-off to the bus station). Loved the atmosphere of the stone-cut "cave" rooms. Family-run hotel with a friendly & relaxed feel, that makes you feel very welcome. Ramazan and his father were very helpful, and went out of their way to give us a great experience visiting "their Cappadocia"! Helped us plan/book our day trips & gave us heaps of info about the surrounding areas & best places to visit. Even gave the option to "be our tour guide" for the day, and take us on a personalised tour. Ramazan personally took us for a walk to a great lookout point for a panorama of Goreme - free! (just because he is so proud of his town!)

Ramazan, the owner, was kind enough to accomodate me at very short notice from another hotel. I was looking for a cave hotel experience close to Goreme so that I could sample village life in the Cappadocia region as well as being able to have a feeling of safety for a lone female. This hotel fit the bill. Ramazan and his father were very welcoming, open and friendly, always ready with useful suggestions, advice and offers of any assistance.

I stayed in one of the rooms, although I understand dormitory rooms are available. My room was clean, and nicely appointed with lovely bedlinen, local antiques & kitsch objects, free WIFI, heated for the freezing nights with a gas heater, but ever environmentally aware, gas turned off during daylight hours. This is not an issue since the caves keep themselves warm during the day. I experienced no problems at all with supply of hot water, which I generally like to be quite hot.

I found Star Cave good value - hostel meets 3 star quality. Great, clean rooms upon check-in, but rooms not cleaned daily during my stay - something I thought was a positive nod for the environment. A "small stuff" issue - toilet not clean to start - quickly fixed. Everything else good - clean sheets, towels. Breakfast was plentiful and basic, which is the way I like it.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to any traveller wishing to experience warm Turkish hospitality and the unique landscape of Goreme.

I read though many of the reviews here and they really do paint a pretty accurate picture of the Star Cave. This is a cute cave hotel with a young and relaxed staff and owner (Ramazan) who runs the place like a hostel rather than a hotel, which is what you should expect as you can only book it on hostel websites. While they do not clean the room during your stay and are not a normal professional hotel staff, they are quite friendly and helpful and it felt as if we were guests in their home rather than in a hotel. There are some problems with the hot water, but the bathrooms are new and made of a gorgeous yellow granite. Ibu and Ramazan were really great, and Ibu gave us a good rate for the alternate room as the one we had requested was not available.

The Star Cave is located at one end of the town, but it only takes 5 minutes to walk to the center of town and there is a great view from the terrace since it is on high ground. They also come pick you up if you call from the tourist office for free and you can ask them to drop you off at the bus station as well. Breakfast was hot and extremely good and is served at 8:30. There were a lot of guests, so it took a bit to get served, but we had no problem making our tours on time.

We took the short tour with Fatih, which was great for taking photos as Fatih is extremely knowledgeable of the area and knew all the best spots to take us where we got wonderful landscape shots and avoided all the other tourists. Just don't expect too much detailed history or explanations unless you ask questions. We also booked the longer tour and horse back riding with Fatih and I highly recommend both activities. Try to book the 2 hour horseback ride for sunset as it is quite gorgeous and calm and Fatih's friend was a wonderful trail guide.

The only thing I would warn away from is the Hammam in the town which is apparently new but appallingly run and does not have separate bathing facilities for men and women. The steam room had no steam, the pool was a bit slimy and tinted green, and they do not warn you when they mix the sexes so that all you end up with a towel in the common steam room while staff members of the opposite sex walked in and out while you were scrubbed down. Needless to say, it was extremely embarrassing, overpriced and completely the opposite of my experience in the Cembalitas Hammam in Istanbul.

During our trip through Turkey, we found Star Cave Hotel one of the most picturesque places we stayed. The rooms are very cosy and spacious enough, the bathroom very clean. Breakfast took place at the terrace with comfy couches, and beautiful view of the area. As in most of hotels, you get lots of fresh fruits, feta, tomatoes, … But here with a little extra (e.g. tomato pie). The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Lovely stay in the impressive area of Cappadocia.

Star Cave is a family-owned and run hotel located in a traditional restored Cappadocian house in the centre of Goreme. Most of the rooms are cut into the rock while the upper rooms are built from the local stone. Sleeping in a cave room is a great experience - the quality of this age-old rock means that the rooms stay cool in summer and retain the warmth in winter. We create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can chill out with a drink on one of our panoramic terraces, taste local home-made cooking and basically enjoy typical authentic Turkish hospitality. Our breakfast buffet includes a selection of Turkish specialities as well as fresh seasonal fruit. ... more   less
