Göreme is chock-a-block with small boutique hotels. Sultan Cave is memorable for
- Excellent and knowledgeable service -- including driving us to the Open-Air Museum at no charge
- Superb view and outside seating areas outside each room
- Amazing atmosphere in the premium-category rooms
- 10% off arrangement at Sultan Carpets in town, one of the 2-3 best local carpet dealers (fixed price, no haggling)
Things to be aware of:
- Possibly with the exception of a few rooms, you are staying in wonderful renovated stone buildings, but not actually in caves. Some other local hotels offer caves
- The "standard" rooms, though fine, are not nearly as spectacular as the premium ones
- The restaurant in the hotel is well rated and convenient, but better and cheaper alternatives exist in town
- There are lots and lots of stairs on the premises -- adds to the charm, but could be constraining for those with mobility constraints
- In-room wifi was unreliable

Room Tip: Premium category rooms are worth the (small) splurge

Our 3-night stay at Sultan Cave Suites was totally charming as was the personnel. Mohamed went out of his way to make sure that all was perfect. And that included the airport pick-up and drop-off, the tours, our hotel reservation at our next destination, and the use of the pool & spa at the hotel next door, my special espresso in the morning, and more. Relaxing terrace, gorgeous view and a great restaurant. The location was fabulous and the town was just a short 10 minute walk away. Loved the experience.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in June 2014 as a base for visiting the sights of Goreme.

The hotel is located at the top of a hill overlooking Goreme. It's about a 10 min walk down the hill to Goreme itself.

On arrival and check-in the hotel staff were all very pleasant and shared all the relevant information. The staff were great throughout the stay.

The room was an extremely large and was on a terrace at the same level as the reception, The room was pleasantly decorated and had a flat panel TV. (The only problem was that the room was so large that you almost needed a set of binoculars to view the TV from the bed - and taking a set of binoculars to bed might be deemed as being offensive to anyone you are travelling with). Another feature in the room was the wood burning stove, Not perhaps essential for a trip in June, but a feature to make your room a cost wee bolt-hole in the winter months. The windows in the room overlooked the terrace, so the view wasn't great, but step to the terrace!!!!

The ensuite was large and well finished.

Outside the room, there was a small table and 2 chairs - perfect for a drink as the sun sets - in fact, perfect for a drink any time!. There were several other tables and chairs outside other rooms - and the reception.

Walking down the steps outside the reception took you to the breakfast area. There were several tables outside for soaking up the morning rays and several tables inside. Breakfast itself was a simple buffet style affair, though you could stick your head into the kitchen and order the eggs of your choice!

There was a dining area for dinner, we never ate there, but understand that the place has a good reputation.

Both mornings we were up as the sun rose, to watch the magnificent sight of dozens of hot-air baloons rising up from behind rocks (very interesting rock formations!). This hotel was in a great location to witness this spectacle. Other areas visited were the open-air museum (cave houses / cave churches) - and the aforementioned interesting rock formations.

I would highly recommend this hotel in Goreme (pictures to follow)

Stayed four nights at Sultan Cave Suites in May. Suites 302 and 303. Nice balcony with views of balloons in morning at sunrise. The service was excellent - Mohamed checked us in and helped us plan our stay. Took us to Sunset Ridge on our first evening, made dinner recommendations and reservations that were spot on. Loved the rooms. Lots of light and breezy. Modern bathrooms. But location and views were best part. Hotel restaurant was perfect for our first night after a day of traveling. Seten Anatolian Cuisine.

The hotel is everything that other reviewers have praised and we spent three lovely nights there in July. The staff goes above and beyond and the atmosphere at the hotel is one that makes guests feel as welcome as you would feel at a friend's house. You can relax, enjoy a coffee on one of the many beautiful outdoor spaces (with wi-fi), or have a chat with one of the many friendly staffers. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was spectacular - especially since you can eat outside on the terrace! The hotel's restaurant, as pointed out by others, is indeed very good and the atmosphere there too is pleasant and relaxing. We would definitely go back immediately! Oh, and the airport pick-up and drop-off was flawless.

Apart from the Hot Air balloon ride, the best part about our stay in Cappadocia was Sultan Cave Suites. Once we booked with them we literally did not need to worry about anything, they sent us detailed emails regarding the touring options, balloon rides, shuttle pick ups etc.

The experience at the hotel was even better! Hasan and Mustafa exemplify hospitality - we had a seamless check in, were booked for a fab Balloon ride with Kapadokya Balloons and even dropped off by Hasan to Goreme Open Air Museum. They also helped us get local transport (scooters) easily and helped change our flight itinerary since language tends to be a problem in Turkey.

The property itself is fabulous - on top of a small hill, the rooms are charming and well equipped with a great breakfast reminiscent of a farm breakfast with fresh juices, eggs made to order, fruits etc.

I would rate this as the best place to stay while you're in Cappadocia. Thank you Hasan and Mustafa for making our trip memorable.

Room Tip: Try to take rooms towards the back so that the morning shuttle for Balloon ride goers does not distu...
