“Experience back in time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2011

Goreme can be reach one hour flying from Istanbul or 12 hours by bus, and 3 hours from Ankara. Such a beautiful small little town, quite and tranquil. For someone who likes to hike and would like to know the history, Cappadocia is the perfect place to do that. Beautiful scenery with history.
Walking through the cave carved churches, feels that we traveling back in time. The national park is well conserve by the Turkish government. Don't miss to stay at cave hotel as well, where you can spend the night in flinstones era. Hot balloon gas also worth to try although its quite pricy !

“You go there only for the site but not the food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2010

The valleys and sites around Goreme or Cappadocia are amazing. You can explore the valleys easily by walking and we do not think that is necessary to join any tours. The downside is that food in Cappadocia is worse than many parts of Turkey and it is significantly overpriced.

“Small town located ın the center of most sıtes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2010

We chose to stay ın Goreme as our home base whıle tourıng around Cappadocıa and we were happy wıth our decısıon as it was very centrally located to all the sites and the town had enough options to meet our eatiıng and shopping needs. We vısıted ın March just before the begınnıng of the tourist season so we had an opportunity to mix and mingle wıth some of the locals. However, I imagine that during the height of the season, that this quaint town might have more tourists than locals. If that is your scene than I would recommend ıt. If you prefer more choices for lodging and restaurants and shops than Urgup might be a better alternative if you have access to transportation.

“Tourist Friendly City that isn't "Touristy"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2009

Throughout Turkey, there are areas that feel inauthentic: Select streets in Istanbul packed with hotels and restaurant owners who are looking for tourists to take advantage of, Beach towns packed with British tourists paying unreal prices for a simple sandwich, and areas that are just recreations for tourists to photograph. But Goreme is an exception to this.

Goreme, while very tourist-friendly, still feels authentically Turkish. The surreal landscape of fairy chimneys wall-in this tiny bustling town. Some of the prices at restaurants can be expensive, but there are many choices and also small grocery shops to eat on the cheap. While there aren't as many street vendors as in other major cities, the atmosphere in Goreme is exciting and happy.

Surrounding the town is a wealth of attractions. If you didn't rent a car for the rest of your trip through Turkey, do it here! Drive through the winding roads in and out of valleys, past cities carved in stone, and stop to take in the expansive landscape. Goreme is a great place to stay as you visit the pottery-famous city of Avanos, the ancient underground cities to the south, and open air museum.

Goreme is a fantastic place to call home as you explore the wonders of Cappadocia, a must see for any traveler to Turkey!

“Wonderful village”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2009

Excellent place to get a true flavor of Cappaodica. It's a very cute place with a lot of little shops and tasty restaurants and it's very close to Rose Valley and the Outdoor Museum and it's incredible Dark Church.
