Owner description: This imposing mountain and former volcano is now a resort area used for skiing and other winter sports. In summer, mountaineers generally attempt climbs from June through September, before the snows arrive at the higher elevations.

“St George's Mountain”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

We had seen this mountain from the car, as we drove all over this part of Turkey, so we drove up to the ski slopes in June, and saw the mountain where St George killed the dragon, up close. A very nice mountain it is too.

“Beautiful volcano in background to much of Cappadocia”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

When visiting Cappadocia you will often see Mount Erciyes in the distance. It is a majestic volcano (inactive) that towers over its surroundings. There is good skiing on the mountain and plans for further development.

“Enjoyable road bike route”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

As part of a bike tour in and around Cappadocia we took the road that crosses the shoulder of Erciyes from Diveli in the south and then goes north to Kayseri (turn off lest about 6k after the ski resort to avoid main road with tunnels, etc.) The plan is to develop a big ski area here but for us (in May) that wasn't relevant. There is on OK cafe to stop for a drink or something to eat. The descent was a bit spoiled by teh weather (pouring with rain) but in the dry would be fantastic (not too steep, straightish with out tight corners, little traffic and good visability a long way down the road. The col/ski resort is around 1000m above the start on either side so not too long a climb.

“"A spectacular Historic Dormant Volcano"”
Reviewed 12 April 2014

Mount Erciyes is spectacular indeed. It has a majesty and the almost year-round snow covering it gives it a certain majesty.
