We were here for lunch and what wonderful surprise. One of our best meals in Turkey. This small restaurant, surely one of the few things of note in Ayvali, offers wonderful food in a pleasant setting with good service. The offer a fixed menu for lunch and dinner and virtually all hot food is prepared in their tandoori - on display as you enter the modestly sized space. Today we had wonderful assorted Mezze including stuffed grape leaves, with the leaves from their own vines, a marvelous fresh salad of tomato, arugula, onion and herbs and a small pastry with cheese. The main course featured bulgar and beans served with a beef stew made with local spices. The entire meal was both Turkish and local and wonderful. If you are in Cappadocia seek it out, and we plan to go back for dinner tomorrow. It is quite small, so book ahead.

We went to the Aravan Evi Restaurant last night for dinner and were treated to an unusual and fantastic experience. This is a small restaurant / Inn about 20 minutes from Urgup by car, located in the small and quaint village of Ayvali. Our GPS took us to the front of a small storefront where locals we playing some type of game. The restaurant is located up some stairs on the hill behind the storefront, and can be reached by a driveway on the right just past the little shops.

After walking up the stairs, the owner greeted us and took us to a small dining room overlooking the village, next to the family home and Inn. We were served a wonderful meal of local appetizers, salad, main course and dessert. The foods were all simple, local foods, excellently prepared by the mother of man man who manages/owns the place with his parents. The soup and salad were delicious, as were the other appetizers. Some of the foods were grown in the proprietors garden, which were pointed out as they were served. The main couse of beef, beens and bulga rice we delicious. For dessert we we offered teo local desserts: dried apricots with walnuts inside, and a local grape molasses based treat. The service was very personal, friendly, and attentive.

This is a wonderful, family run restaurant. It is clean, nice, and will give you a much better sense for the local fa and culture than you will find in many of the highly touristed areas in the larger towns. After dinner and dessert, we were able to meet the proprietors parents, his mother who cooked the meal, and father who does much of the behind the scenes work. It is a bit of a drive, but well worth it. Happy eating.

We have been told about this gem of a restaurant by our hotel manager and the Tripadvisor reviews seemed promising. You have to make a reservation were were told. Its in a village that doesn't get much traffic so the kitchen needs to know ahead of time how many people are going show up. Also, most of the ingredients are grown by the family that runs the place, they don't rely on commercial stuff. We were close by, famished for lunch, and decided to try our luck anyway despite not having made a reservation. Just our luck, there was enough to prepare us a meal so we got a table.

They had a set meal with two appetizers, main courses and desserts for 40 Turkish Lira each person, very reasonable for upscale dining. The were dishes that were from the area which made my wife happy cause she was really looking for some of that local cooking, I on the other hand, just wanted a good tasting meal. Both me and my wife were surprised at the amount of food served and we were thinking there was no way were were gonna finish all that. We polished our plates. The meal was absolutely fantastic. I was just amazed how the could extract the flavors from those particular ingredients. I had white beans before, but not like that. I had beef before but not like that.

This is a family run resto, so everybody pitches in, the father grows the ingredients at their local farm, the mother cooks and the son does the serving. Service was excellent, and he is quite fluent in english. I was able to get some background of the place and dishes from him. He even gave us recommendations on where to go and what to see, now that is what I call service.

Easily our favorite restaurant in Cappadocia. You really do have to go, just make a reservation.
