“The highlight of my trip to Turkey!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2010

From my cliff-side view in my hotel room, I was able to see the vast mountainous range of Cappadocia, birds circling in the rising sun, and the dim lit hotel at night, which gives a nostalgic feeling of historic Turkey even if it's your first time there.

My stay at Yunak Evleri could not have been better in any aspect. I, personally, am most impacted by the unique cuisine of different cultures. The breakfast served at the Yunak left an impression on me that would make me travel back to Turkey for. The atmosphere of the hotel was tranquil and refreshing. The town was a walk away, and an even shorter distance for a myriad of restaurants. We even had ADSL internet available to us in the cave hotel!

If there is one thing I could take away from Cappadocia, it's that you really need to have knowledgeable and willing help to get around the region. Staying at the Yunak provided this with their service, and then some. :)

Besides the fact that the hotel is an authentic cave house (some Turkish families were living there previously) and very near central and the archeological sites, it is extremely well managed. Husseyn, the hotel Manager, and Abdullah (from reservations) are two of the most attentive and warm staff we met during the whole trip. They would go the extra mile just to meet our individual needs and make us more comfortable. We had planned the Balloon Tour several months in advance and everything worked out as a Swiss clock, with the maximum efficiency. Also, our flight out of Cappadocia left in the wee hours, but they made a special effort to prepare breakfast for us before the usual time. I feel bad for not remembering the names of the other staff as they were also extremely efficient, courteous and professional. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have a cave experience.

Most of the reviews on this hotel are true. We loved the friendly staff. We came underprepared, and they helped book tours for us for the 2 days we were there. Breakfast was nice and had a great view. Internet was free. And we were offered a complimentary drink on arrival. They really treat you well here. If you pay in cash, you get a discount.

This was my first time in a "Cave Hotel", Got there in the evening, all of us were given welcome drinks, the formalities did take a little long, but once we were escorted to the rooms,we were thrilled, though I must warn old people and ones with knee problems it may be difficult to walk around the hotel as there is a lot of climbing up and down. The rooms are spacious, though when we were there it was really hot and the rooms had no a.c.'s. The breakfast buffet was limited, but all in all just for a time experince I would surely recommend. Just outside the hotel is Ziggy's Cafe which serves the most outstanding Continental Food....A MUST VISIT WHEN IN CAPPADOCIA.

Quiet, charming hotel. Only stayed for a night and wish we could have stayed longer. They upgraded us to a suite with a charming balcony. Nice spread at the complementary breakfast too.

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at this fantastic cave hotel. The rooms are beautiful, tidy, clean and well equipped. We stayed in one of the best suite 145 which has a nice view of surroundings. Dinner and breakfast are really good. Yunak Evleri has a good location and only 5 minutes walk away from the town. The staffs are really helpful, particularly the manager, Mr Abdullah, he is always willing to help with our questions. We had wonderful service during our stay. Yunak Evleri and Cappadochia was a highlight and unforgettable experience of our Turkey adventure. We ensure that we will come back for our next stay when we visit Cappadocia again in the near future.

The staff were wonderfully accommodating at the Yunak Evleri. They made a number of arrangements for us during our 4 night stay including a fabulous balloon flight with Royal Balloon which lasted over 1.5 hours (check which flight you are booked on since Royal offers more than one type). We rented a car, taking time to see the sights, and we wished we had stayed longer.

Each room is quite distinct since they are rehabilitated and redecorated dwellings cut into the volcanic tuff rock (a few are partially in the cliff with part extending into a stone house in front). Of the two rooms comfortable we occupied, both had spacious marble bathrooms with shower and jacuzzi, semi-private courtyards, and simple yet elegant decor. There are many stairs at the hotel. If accessibility is an issue, there are several "ground floor" rooms with a minimum number of stairs.

The stone rooms stayed far cooler than the blazing August weather even without air-conditioning. Of course wireless internet cannot penetrate the cave walls, but you can pick up free wireless from several points around the property or use the in-house laptops for internet access. The hotel provided safe, slippers, robes, and nice amenities.

Breakfast is Turkish/European with a good selection of cheeses, egg, fruit, meats and baked goods, and the view across the valley from the breakfast terrace is lovely. We also took advantage of the nightly set menu. With four courses, if one item is not to your preference, there is still plenty to eat. They served dishes like fried trout, baked chicken, Turkish ravioli, stuffed peppers, etc., and it felt a bit like eating in the home of a friend. A short but steep descent from the hotel takes you to a few more restaurants.

Other reviewers have noted a lack of TVs in the rooms for their children, but being readers, we could not have cared less!

At the foot of the cliff stands the hotel's main lobby. Housed in a 19th century Greek mansion, the main building exudes a kind of sophisticated charm. Within the stone building, cozy meeting rooms provide a soothing atmosphere for lounging in the evening. Alongside a room with computer and wireless Internet connection, the music room has a wide variety of CDs you can borrow and the TV room is decked out in plush Turkish cushions with a view of the surrounding cliffs. There is a DVD room on the second floor decorated with local handmade pottery accessories, candles, and a lovely furnace. Evenings are characterized by sunset gatherings on soft upholstered Turkish pillows warmed by an outdoor fireplace. Candlelight dining is offered on the adjacent rooftop terrace. We serve local homemade foods for dinner and an open-buffet breakfast.
