Turasan vines are not easy to find in Istanbul. They taste good and they are good value for money. try it and they are sending vines in a box with cargo delivery with no additional charges.

We came here on our own. There were no tour buses when we arrived. For 15TL, we got a short, but informative private tour of the small winery. Everything super clean and in the same family for years.

Then, we were given 6 nice size samples of the red(we do not like white) at the tasting counter. We thought it was all very nice. We do not compare them to wines from other parts of the world...as we were in Turkey and that is all that mattered. You can buy bottles at fair prices...would be nice to take to your hotel patio or such. A few gift items too(magnets/openers).

We then got to taste Turkish pumpkin seeds, dried apricots, etc. All very good and explained to us.

From here, we walked downhill to Urgup. It was a delightful hour which we enjoyed.

Of the two mainstream wineries located in Cappadocia, we had sampled both during our dinner experiences, and preferred Turasan. During our visit to Urgup, we went to the tasting room to sample the wines. At first, they poured us the standard white in a small glass, but when we mentioned we would like to sample both their reds and whites, the manager was happy to share with us a wide variety (both high-end and more mainstream wines). Some of the reds have a full, almost Zinfandel-like quality, and the whites are mostly on the dry side. They have a brochure which explains each wine's characteristics in detail, and the recommended pairings.

This is not Napa/Sonoma, so having some patience is essential. Be forward about asking for the full range, and for the brochure description. While we were tasting, there were a number of tour buses that came through, but it did not detract from the experience.

We went here based on a mention in the Lonely Planet. Tours of the winery are only given on weekends and we came on a Tuesday. We did try the wine tasting: three small glasses of wine with no explanation. I had great red wines at several restaurants in the area (similar to US west coast wines), but this wine was nothing like it, vinegary and awful. The rosé was the worst of the three. I would not recommend it to my friends and I think the mention should be removed from the LP guide!
