I was in Turkey for 2 weeks, and this place was far and away the most incongruous when comparing the actual hotel (nice location, interesting rooms, great lawn and pool) with the people running it. As soon as the owner realized we weren't interested in using the tour agency he ran on the side, he ignored us. The rest of the staff were equally unfriendly, gazing on us with bored expressions as we lugged our baggage past them (never offering to help). The breakfast staff never even said hello to anyone. And though in theory the pool and big yard are perfect for lounging in, there is bad muzak piped into it all day long, so it completely ruins the ambiance.

In short, great hotel (physically), terrible management and overall vibe. We were planning on staying 3 nights, but checked out after the first night.

We stayed 2 nights to see Cappadocia region. Hotel is beautiful, nice lush green lawn and good swimming pool. Water was cold so could not take a swim. Rooms were decent and plenty of hot water in shower, Staff was excellent and they all spoke English. Owner was very cheerful person and gave the history of the hotel and the region. They had free Wi-Fi all over the property. We had dinner both nights at hotel and that was superb very well prepared. Hotel is worth to stay and relax in garden. If we go again will stay here.

Room Tip: Choose rooms by pool side

We travel to Capadoccia, Turkey, is a historical region in Central Anatolia, largely in Nevşehir Province, in central Turkey.... but oh...surprise!!!.. that place doesn´t exist ON THE MAP.. ..(any map), with that name..Capadocia, Cappadocia, Capadoccia, or Kapadokya The name, was traditionally used in Christian sources, throughout history, and is still widely used as an international tourism concept, to define a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by "fairy chimneys", in the area called Capadocia, and a unique historical and cultural heritage.
Was a travel through the time tunnel... was for pleasure, one region with the union of several empires, Persian, Romans, Bizancio, etc... (during the 7th century, Anatolia was divided in Anatolia & Armenia..),
If you look on the map, CAPADOCIA, is the region between NEVSHEIR, KAYSERI, NIGDE, AKSARY, & KIRSHEIR...The most important towns, (INSIDE THIS CIRCLE), are: Urgup, Goreme, Ihlara Valley, Selime, Guzelyurt, Uchisar, Avanos and Zelve. Among the underground cities worth seeing are Derinkuyu, Kaymakli, Gaziemir and Ozkanak. The best historic mansions, and cave houses for tourist, stays are in Urgup, Goreme, Guzelyurt and Uchisar..
Our stop was in Urgup...
Urgup is a town and district of Nevshehir, Province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. Located in the historical region of Cappadocia, and near the cave Churches of Goreme.
Our hotel, Melis....from outside is a house... antique... inside... is like a magic tale....very nice rooms, INSIDE the rocks, some of them very big,... garden with swimming pool... was cold.. but was very nice to seat in the morning, to take the breakfast on the garden, in front od the water....the dinner was excellent... and the best "they accept pets....!!!.... the staff, very polite... the owner very warm, & educated...very helpful....our room was amazing....and the collection of carpets are beautiful...WAS another world ...the hotel MELIS, is very well located...is one very nice hotel... no fancy, but very confortable....very near of the centre... and amenities... half km from the Goreme Open Museum... with the famous " Fairy Chimneys"...& several churchs, & the famous carved houses, inside the chimneys...
In geology, they are called :
HOODOO, (also called a tent rock, fairy chimney, and earth pyramid) is a tall, thin spire of rock that protrudes from the bottom of an arid drainage basin or badland. Hoodoos, which can range from 5-150 feet tall (1.5-45 metres), typically consist of relatively soft rock topped by harder, less easily eroded stone that protects each column from the elements. They generally form within sedimentary rock and volcanic rock formations.
Hoodoos are found, mainly in the desert in dry, hot areas. In common usage, the difference between hoodoos and pinnacles or spires, is that hoodoos have a variable thickness, often described as having a "totem pole-shaped body.".
The name was traditionally used in Christian sources throughout history, and is still widely used as an international tourism concept to define a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage.
Don´t forget to see, Derinkuyu Underground City... is an ancient multi-level underground city of the Median Empire in the Derinkuyu district in Nevşehir Province.
Hot-air ballooning is very popular in Cappadocia, and is available in Goreme. & is amazing experience to see the " FAIRY CHIMNEYS FROM THE BALLON... AT THE SUNRISE.".. is an unspeakable feeling, flying in a hot-air balloon, through the chimneys, at low altitude, through the valley, and watching them .. almost like touching them .....
Trekking is enjoyed in Urgup, Goreme, Ihlara Valley, Monastery Valley (Guzelyurt)
There are several "fairy chimneys" in the world.... this are one of the most beautiful, for the shape, & for the colours....

Warm Regards Melis Hotel...& TripAdvisor... sorry ´cos I don´t write frequently......so this is very long...; D )).

My first Cappadocia experience was absolutely fantastic although I had very limited time. First of all, I have got to say that the hotel itself is totally fascinating. I was able to see a few rooms and blown away by everything. My room was fully decorated and my bed was extremely comfortable that I did not want to get up.

On the other hand, they were tremendously helpful in arranging tours, recommending restaurants etc. I booked Magic Valley Tours through the hotel and was delighted to have joined. I visited Goreme Open Air museum, some magnificent churches, fabulous fairy chimneys and so on. By the way, our professional tour guide was also quite good.

Overall, I would highly recommend Melis Hotel for their excellence and and Magic Valley tours for their efficiency.

Beautiful, elegant, and friendly staff. Wonderful grounds situated in a beautfiul area of the country. We had a room fit for queens and staff were always helpful if we needed anything. We also booked this hotel from Magic Holiday Travel in Istanbul. We were satisfied with both Magic Holiday and with Melis. It was a little too cold for us to swim but the pool looked beautiful. Chef Ali made good food, also.

Room Tip: It's only tiny drawback would be that it's a short distance from town. It was just a little...

We booked this hotel from Magic Holiday Travel Agent in Istanbul. Connected by family. We were met by the owner who showed us around; justifiably proud of his work. Room was magnificent and everything worked efficiently. The food was not such a high standard but hotel seffering from low occupancy while we were there; not being big enough to attract coach loads. Pool was too cold due to lack of sun, being in the shade, The owner plans to provide some solar heating for it. We booked tours and an amazing balloon trip over the equally amazing cappadocian landscape. We will go there again if we travel that way.

Nice rooms in quiet section of Urgup. There are a few sites in this town (some old caves and Temeni Wishing Hill providing panorama views of the town and surrounding area). But, one should be aware that there are distances to reach many of Cappadocia's sites in Goreme and the surrounding national parks, for example.

Room Tip: Our poolside rooms were quiet, without disturbance. But, if you desire an air conditioner, you may w...
