Assiana House

We had booked flights from Istanbul to the Cappadocia area before we started looking for lodging and then felt stuck trying to find the perfect place. Fortunately a travel agency was recommended to us, who recommended the Assiana House. We arrived after 9:00PM and were greeted warmly and then shown to our room - I believe it was #7 - first one on the right upon entering and then down some stairs. Being my first cave hotel, I can't say if it was better than others in that aspect, but we were just so excited about it and loved it. Breakfast was very good - served out on the rooftop. The owners were lovely and accommodating with helping us figure out our schedule and letting us take some breakfast early the day we left for the airport. Wifi was good - when in our room it was a little spotty on one side, but perfect on the other side. We were in a cave after all so can't really complain about wifi. There was about a 10 minute walk into "town" which wasn't bad... the way back was all uphill, but it seems all of Turkey is steep hills so you get used to it. After doing a 2 day tour (with Crossroads - also wonderful!), and getting to see the other towns, I was still happy that we stayed in Urgup. Definitely recommend.

I echo other reviews of this charming tiny hotel. Only 7 bedrooms, all 'caves' - each one carved from the volcanic mountain (which ensures blissful cool nights without air con) and individually decorated in grand Turkish style with care and taste (original kilims on floor, outdoor table and comfortable chairs for each room).
Nothing is too much trouble for Mevlut and his lovely wife Suna who sat with us to sort out itineraries and offer advice as much as we wanted. Suna makes her own jams and borek (pastries - fresh every day) for breakfast which you eat on the verandah overlooking the spectacular Cappadocian prairies and volcanic canyons. Note that Assiana is a good 10 minute walk up the hill from Urgup centre. So not for those who like to be in the midst of it all. We liked this distance - good exercise and helps digest dinner (!), gets you away from the noise, bustle and cars out into the peace and stars, and most important: despite the heat in mid August when we visited the air was always fresh with cooling breeze.
The balloon company they recommended - Sultan Balloons - was excellent, very safety conscious, and competitively priced (not the cheapest but with professional experienced pilots) - this was the first high point of our trip. The second was the whirling dervish ceremony in a 12th century caravanserai which Mevlut organised tickets for - although for tourists it was serious not tacky. We found it hauntingly beautiful and moving.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely - each different but extra special to have one on the upper balcony so you step...

The location was charming. The owner was wonderful, hospitable, and informative. Overall, my trip to Cappadocia was made all the more fun for having stayed at Assiana.

The hotel has a fantastic balcony area overlooking the beautiful (though slightly desolate) Cappadocian landscape. Every morning the owners prepared a wonderful breakfast for all their guests. The rooms were neat and clean.

I recommend Assiana Hotel

On recommendation from our hotel in Ayvali village, we spent a night in a cave room at Assiana House. Despite our short stay, we had a great time at the hotel which has spellbinding terrace views and is beautifully decorated with various artifacts from the region. We found the staff to be very helpful and the manager went out of the way to help us send a gift to one of our tour guides. We stayed in Room 1, which was very huge and had a separate sitting area inside as well as outside the room. It seemed an ideal place to sit and spend time with 3-4 friends. And the cave room reminded me of the caves that we had seen during a trip to the nearby underground city of Kaymakli, with all modern comforts added. We wish that we had more time to spend there.

Room Tip: Room 1 is huge and richly decorated along with a bath tub.

This hotel was and incredible experience. The owners and staff were wonderful and friendly. The location of the hotel was very safe and a short walk to the main area of restaurants and shops. But the experience of staying in a cave cannot be put into words. If you travel to Turkey you MUST go to this area and stay here.

Room Tip: we had an actual cave for our room. Room #7 if I recall. It was a little damp in the room but we did...

There is a great variety in cave hotels, and this one fitted all our wishes.
Some cave hotels are very authentic (be careful to touch the walls) and some are very luxurious, but most are nicely renovated as ours was.
Most of the times we stay at B&B's, as we like small places where you can ask the host for advice on which day trips to take or what roads to walk in town.

This place met all our wishes, it has a terrace with a beautiful view where it is a joy to have breakfast. And if you are an early bird, the terrace can provide a beautiful place to see the sunrise transforming the valley in a beautiful landscape with a sky filled with almost 100 colorful balloons (depending on the wind).

My incredible cave room with all the luxuries was unbelievable. Everything about it was wonderful and charming. From the staff, the breakfast and even two baby kittens, it could not have been more lovely. Sorry my stay was so short. I plan to return someday.
