The Allgau Pension

Travellers usually only tend to stay 1 night in Pamukkale to visit the famous travertines. And if you are one of them, Allgau Pension is perfectly sufficient. The room is very clean and basic. Dinner is wonderful too - I had fried fish / rice / salad etc for only 10 TL.

The pension is located at the end of the village road with Venus Hotel opposite it, but cost a fraction of its price (Venus Hotel definitely is a good choice too, having said that, just more expensive and upscale). It is probably a 5-10 min walk to Pamukkale central, but really, it is not that far since the village is tiny.

Wifi signal is stronger if you live nearer to the reception area. but since I was only there one night and not there to surf the internet, this wasnt an issue at all.

Clean basic rooms with heating. 10 mins walk from the town and travertines. The hosts were very friendly, and cooked us a very nice breakfast in the morning. One of the few hot breakfasts we had in Turkey.

We went there in winter, so there was almost no one there. The pool was drained. They stated that in the coming months they were going to put in TVs in the room and refurbish the rooms.

Very good value - about half the price of other hotels in the area. We paid 40 liras.

I stayed at this pension for two nights. The first night was in a room without air conditioning, but with a fan. The cost was 30 Lira (about 20 USD). This room wasn't bad, but I upgraded to an airconditioned room the next night for 40 lira (about 26 USD). The free breakfast was the best I'd had in two summers of living in Turkey, and the place seems to be run by a kindly old Turkish lady and her friendly staff. They don't speak a lot of English, but they do speak German. The dinner I had there was also very good.

You really can't beat this price, and again, I'd emphasize the cleanliness of the rooms and 10-minute walk to the main sites and bus stop. My one complaint involved the sitting area (which I spent quite some time in because the WiFi there did not extend beyond the open-air sitting/dining area of the hotel). In their effort to have traditional Turkish tablecloths on the table, I think they probably avoided actually washing them. This meant that the continual fly problem in the dining area was pretty bad and avoidable. Also, although it didn't seem to bother the staff, I literally got eaten alive by mosquitos every time I was outside during the sunrise/sunset hours. I avoided a second night of eating dinner there precisely for this reason, which is a shame, because the food is really good.

One of their pools is filtered from the water that comes from the Pamukkale Springs. This is good to know, because otherwise the water looks pretty nasty--like a pool that hasn't been cleaned in a while. I didn't swim in the water, but I saw others doing so. Having the thing there may be a wasted effort, although the idea certainly sounds nifty. Perhaps this is what causes the mosquito problem?
