Tortum is one the biggest waterfall in Turkey. If you are around Erzurum it is really worth to travel here. Me and my other crazy friends even swam in small lake around :D . No fee to enter.
But once you've been to Niagara falls, this looks like a joke. If you want to see a good waterfall in Turkey, go to the ones down south.
This waterfall is definitely worth visiting if you are driving past to Erzurum. You don't have to walk far, it is fed by a sedate river above, caused by a fault. It is a nice wide waterfall. The environment is not very well maintained, rubbish around on the ground. It is not so tall. There is a tea house nearby for snacks. Overall a good experience.
It's the biggest waterfall of Turkey they say, and it really was very impressive.. The amount of water pouring down from above and the sound really cleans your mind.. very meditative... and the surrounding is also very beautiful... If you travel the east of Turkey I'd recommend this plac.. real piece of nature....
P.S. You can also have a bbq near the falls if you travel by caravan or with friends..
