“Not bad”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

I visited during the winter of 2009 and this is a review based on my impressions back then. The hotel is by Ege University and i guess primarily serves guests at the University or visitors to the nearby hospital.

It is very close to Bornova shopping centre. Room I had was very clean and had no problems at all. Aside from the bar, i did not use any of their dining or breakfast facilities or services. Reception and staff were very good and courteous.

Overall based on a one night stay, my impression is that it was good but if you are a tourist this probably isn't the area to stay in.

Nice lobby, big rooms. AC is not cooling which makes the room very hot. Could not have window open because of a lot of noise from a generator outside. The hotel is ok if you have your business at the Ege University. 15 minutes taxi drive to the seaside. Hotel is also very close to a big outdoor shopping centre which was very nice.

A hotel at a university campus. They were renovating the surrounding. Hotel look at the outside a like a grey building. A hospital was in the neighbourghood. Correct people at hte reception, speak good english. Nice restaurant, not busy in the evening. Rooms are big but a bit old fashioned. Mini bar was good filled. But for a few days good enough. A few metres walking from the hotel there is a nice shopping centre. Izmir has also a nice shopping city center called konak,
you can reached it by taxi, not that expensive. Good breakfast, very various.

My initial impression of this hotel was very favorable from the elegant lobby and polished reception staff. Unfortunately, a nice appearance did not make up for the lack of comfort.

The beds at the Anemon Ege Saglik were the hardest I had ever felt. It was impossible to sleep on them. Trying to sleep on the bed was comparable to trying to sleep on concrete. Since the primary reason for staying at a hotel is to get a good night's sleep, the Anemon gets a low rating from me.

Another annoyance was the spotty WiFi service. The hotel advertised free, high speed Internet service. My laptop picked up only a fair signal strength which made for a very slow Internet connection. To make it worse, the system arbitrarily logged me out every few minutes. I was constantly having to log back in to the Internet system. The reception staff was unable to resolve the issue.

For TRY170 per night (equivalent USD95) for a single room, this hotel was seriously overpriced considering the lack of comfort. I would not recommend it for anyone.

I don't know if the others stayed in the same hotel but my experience is about the worst.. It starts with the driveway which is full of holes and very bumpy.. The entry area is of marble.. Old but still marble.. But some funny guy flooded it with water so it is extremely slippery.. The hotel staff does not speak or doesn't want to speak English.
Arriving in the evening the floor was so dark...felt like in a dungeon. The room was really warm but the airconditioning made it worse.. Then in the night I heard a dripping sound.. Water was pouring from the airconditioning ... Next morning I asked for a new room and if my stuff could be moved to the new room. They could not... I had to do it late in the evening... But to make sure they loked to door from me. But why asking for apologies...
With quite some hunger I went for the restaurant... More surprises to come. I sat down and immediately a waiter came... Making a disappointed grunt when he realized I'm am not Turkish... But he put some bread on the table.. I ordered a complete menus out of burger fries and a beer. Obvious it was not big enough for him he took the bread away... Tomorrow after 3 nights I am happy to pay 450€ for a crappy hotel.. My opinion.. Not again..

The hotel is within Ege Unileversity campus next to the University Hospital that is the biggest not only Turkey but also surrounding countries(Greece, Bulgaria etc.).

It is 4 star standard and servince primarily for acedemic personal visiting the university / congress and also relatives of people that are staying in the hospital.

At the same time it is -to my knowledge as of 2009- only decent hotel in Bornova -a district of Izmir-

You should expect 3-4 star standards from the hotel as tourist, I strongly recommend visiting Alsancak or Konak district where almost all hotels are.
