We booked this hotel for our wedding night as it was close to our wedding reception. We drove around to look for it the day before & ended up driving past it 3 times before realising it was the right place. It still has 'Plaza Hotel' written outside & from the outside, it did not look a very welcoming place. We decided as it was only for 1 night, we would stay there anyway. We arrived Saturday afternoon with our belongings & was very surprised to find the interior decor very tasteful & well planned. The hotel was a lot bigger on the inside that it looks from the outside & our room was lovely. A very decent size with very modern decor & comfy furnishing. I have to say, the shower was amazing!!! Breakfast was typical turkish self serve, with everything you would expect to find. All in all a very pleasant stay & would definately recommend. The only reason I give it 4 star is due to outside appearance.

Pleasant hotel very near hospital. Rooms okay for a couple of nights but a bit small for any length of time, also as others have stated you can hear quite lot of noise from other rooms. Modern furnishing but just on the verge of becoming a bit worn. Bathroom very clean modern. Breakfast basic. Staff very pleasant. Good hotel for price . Would definitely use if you need somewhere near to hospital and only for a short time.

I stayed at this hotel with my wife for two days in March as I had a meeting in the hospital directly across the road the next morning. After arriving at 3am from the airport (which cost 50 Turkish Lira), we were shown directly to our room. The room was lovely although the walls were thin (as pointed out in other reviews).

The reception staff were lovely although they had limited English and were extremely helpful in organising the taxi on departure. I was also pleasantly surprised to realise I was only being charged 80 euro for the two night stay rather than 120 euro as we had been informed prior to arriving. This was due to us not being charged for a complete night on our first night due to our late arrival- no other hotel I have been in before has done this so I was very impressed.

Breakfast was the only disappointment. It was a very sparse breakfast (boiled egg, cold meats, olives, bread) and as we had breakfast around 10 there was very little left. However, we had a lovely lunch in the restaurant a few doors up which made up for it.

If you need to be in Balcova then I would recommend this hotel.

While my sister was traveling through Turkey, she fell and broke her leg and had to be operated on. She was taken to the University hospital in Izmir. I flew down from Germany to help out. This hotel is located directly across the street from the hospital.

The manager/owner spoke perfect English and one staff member spoke perfect German. Otherwise, as with much of the population, communicating was difficult. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. This is not a luxury hotel, but is more than adequate.

But you hear what is going on in the room next door too easily.

First thing first- it is very difficult to get hotels with reasonable rates if you plan to stay in Balcova district in Izmir. Normally people tend to stay near the international trade fair ground, but we had a conference to attend in Balcova, so we chose this hotel. And it is here that this hotel appears very tempting! Away from the neighbourhood pricey hotels like the Balcova Thermal and the Crown Plaza, this hotel is very efficient in its service. The rooms and the bathrooms are very large with 24 hours hot water. For breakfast, the hotel has an arrangement with a nearby decent restaurant at 2 mins. walk from the hotel. The breakfast is very generous. the people at the reception are very warm and helpful. Some of them might not speak English but they try their best to help tourists. They even offered us the Kent Card which is required for public transportation in Izmir. Another important feature of this hotel is that it is bang next to the bus stop which makes it very convenient for traveling. Also, there is a good hospital nearby.
On the flip side, sleeping was a bit difficult as one could hear voices from the guests staying at adjacent rooms. Then there are no thermal swimming pool facilities that other hotels offer, but as a bargain you pay much less here.
I definitely recommend this hotel!
