“Don't Miss this Museum as we did”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

Please do not miss this Museum, as we did, because it contains the most important collection of archeological finds covering the history of various periods and cultures. We are still in town to it, except a bit farther from Culture Park where the Museums are located

“History being opened up.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2014

We loved it. Spent a lot of time walking and looking. This is the old city of Smyrna and it does not get as much attention as Ephesus and others. It is a wonderful city and they are doing a good job. Still opening up more of the old town.

“Small museum compared to European ones, but interesting nonetheless”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

Entrance Fee: 8 TL
Compared to some European Museums, the Izmir Archaeological Museum is rather small, but that might also be, because many ancient artefacts of this region are exhibited in Europe...
There are some fascinating pieces in the museum, but even if you just look at the pieces in the outdoor area, you will find fascinating details (and lots of cats).

“nice way to tie in your visit to the site ruins”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2013

after you have seen the actual sites in the country side, a visit to the museum is well worth it, it ties together what the site looked like in its day and the utensils and whatnot used back then. the museum is not huge and you can cover it in an hour or so. the location is central to most hotels in the city centre core
