“In decline”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

An old fish market, renovated to be Izmir's answer to Covent Garden. On the seafront, but not a great location. Up-market shopping and over-priced restaurants, many of which have changed hands or shut down. Noted mainly for the ironwork structure designed by Gustave Eiffel, and now a listed building.

“Trendy shopping and dining”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

The building itself is not fancy outside, it looks like an old fish factory type of thing. But inside it is very chic, airy and stylishly renovated. There are upmarket shops and trendy dining possibilities. Although the shops look expensive, you still can make bargains. In an art gallery, there was an exhibition to show beautiful photographs of old Istanbul (20's to 40's), taken by Ara Güler, a highly respected photographer from Izmir. Loved them. The cafes look nice too. There are terraces outside overlooking the sea where you can enjoy the beautiful views and sunset. If the wind is strong and cold (as it was today) you can sit inside as well. We visited a restaurant (which actually looks like a cafe) named 100%. It has a lovely interior, very trendy and stylish. The meals look good, there is a good selection in the menu and tastes are good. Except my thistle and spinach salad was a bit bland. The only downside is that it does not feel türkish at all.

“Nice Cafes”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

The Pier has a few nice cafes that are right by the water. It's worth a visit especially for brunch or Mojitos.

“Very very clean and up market shopping and dining.”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

We were very impressed with the cleanliness of Izmir but Konak Pier takes this to another level. This shopping and dining area could be in any top end mall in any top city. Importantly for westerners the toilets are what you would expect in such an illustrious establishment. The book shop was a delight in selling many books in languages other than Turkish and as I had finished my initial holiday book it was a real joy to find such a variety of books in English for me to choose from. We also had a very nice coffee and beer in one of the spotless restaurants with free WiFi.

“Upscale Shopping!”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

Konak Pier is like a small mall on the seafront. You'll go through a metal detector upon entrance. The establishment offers upscale shops like Rolex, but also has a movie theatre (5 of the 6 movies were in English) and a wonderful bookstore).
