The highlight of our second trip to Turkey was our stay at the Raşitler Bağ Evi. The house is gorgeous, has historical personality and lots of charm. Staying at this mountain house was like going to the family chalet. The floors, walls and ceilings of this “ev” transport you back in another time and period. It is a very fulfilling experience.

But the most exciting part of our Raşitler Bağ Evi visit was meeting with Ümran and Erhan – the hosts and owners of this very charming home. A magical and unforgettable encounter it was! Ümran and Erhan will make you feel at home as soon as you step in the house, and will make your stay in Safranbolu a very meaningful one. They make the best team of hosts and should get a medal for it! And although we stayed in Safranbolu 4 days during mid-December 2013 temperatures, they helped us out in the planning of our daily visits with very helpful suggestions - and helped us get in and out of Safranbolu. Rooms are very clean, cosy and well decorated. Breakfasts are delicious, plentiful and diversified.

We highly recommend Raşitler Bağ Evi to anyone planning to visit Turkey and Safranbolu.

My friend and I simply loved this place and its most sincere and warm hosts. The house is a beautiful, historical building with a distinct architectural style. The interior is classically designed featuring wooden ceilings and furniture. Our room, on the third floor, was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The hosts, an adorable couple, showed us their family album, shared many stories, and made us feel part of the family -- we can't help loving them! I must mention that we had the BEST traditional Turkish breakfast there of all during our two-week trip in Turkey, prepared by the most lovable and kind hostess.

We cannot say enough about how kind the hosts Umran and Erhan are! They will drive you into town and pick you up, provide a fabulous breakfast, and so,so much more. Safranbolu is split up into three distinct areas. Rasitler Bag Evi (means the Rasitler's summer house) is in the bagaler section( up on the hillside) and the Carsi (old center) is about a five minute drive away. Erhan took us down and picked us up each day. They would have arranged farther ranging excursions if we had wanted them. The old town was precious and is a UNESCO world heritage site. A great change from the Agean coastline and the package tour circuit! The room was very comfortable and beautiful. This house has been in Umran's family for over 8 generations! A really special place to stay.

Umran and Erhan, as well as their daughter and son-in-law, treated the 4 of us as family. We stayed two nights near the end of a 3.5 week vacation in Turkey, and they were such warm people with such a lovely home and garden that we felt as we really belonged there. The breakfasts were the best in Turkey, and they made a delicious light dinner for us as well which was among the best food we had for the whole trip. The house is perfect - beautifully appointed rooms that are virtually museum pieces in themselves, and they are totally comfortable to be in for us and our children. We would give this place our highest recommendation to anyone.

Proprietors Umran & Erhan Hangun greet you at the door as friends and you leave feeling like family. We stayed three nights in mid-July 2013, changing from the small room the first night to a larger room for two nights. Both rooms were excellent. This was the best lodging experience we've ever had!

Upon retiring from their respective careers ten years ago, the Hanguns set about remodeling the summer home of Umran's family which has been in the family for 300 years. In addition, Umran's father had been mayor of Safronbolu and was responsible for saving many of the old Ottoman homes.

The remodel of this old Ottoman home is exquisite, as is the beautiful grounds, separated into a beautiful patio area, further lawn with hammocks between fruit trees, and an area for their garden/greenhouse and chickens--guarded by their friendly Akbas dog named "Kapuc".

No need for air-conditioning--three reasons: the Baglar area sits in high altitude, old Ottoman homes are naturally cool, and a waterfall next door from the mountains cools the air. It was hot in Safranbolu, but amazingly cool at Rasitler Bag Evi.

Umran doesn't serve dinner any more, but her breakfasts are wonderful, a feast with eggs from their happy chickens, vegetables from their garden, preserves made by her from their fruit trees, fresh fruit, and good bread. Their two assistants help with the chores and are very helpful. The best breakfasts we've ever had traveling.

Umran's great cooking doesn't stop there. She makes delicious cakes and is ready at hand to serve you them with tea any time you want. Sitting on the patio listening to the quiet, with cool air refreshing the weary traveler's body, hosts knowing just what you need--truly Eden.

The house is as immaculate as the hosts are gracious. All rooms welcome guests with water at bedside, king-size accomodations in all rooms (twin beds together), adequate lighting, plenty of plugs, and wi-fi. The beds are very comfortable and the linens top quality. Dut to the historical planning board's strict regulations, the bathrooms are small, but live big: tiled and immaculate. Cool breezes waft through the windows at night and invite good sleep--never slept better elsewhere.

Your hosts here make hospitality look easy: helping with all questions of the area, give you brochures, information on restaurants, and even show a film on Safranbolu. Erhan is at the ready to help with any problem or question. He quickly phoned a hotel at our next city stop and solved our lodging problem. Just look at their guest book and see the entries. You, too, will call them "mom" & "dad"--and wish to stay forever.
