Absolutely exhausted after a full 8 hours on the Lykian Way we stopped at the first guesthouse on the path when it enters Faralya. Bad idea! Would we have walked 5 more minutes we would have been in a much nicer guesthouse, and a bit cheaper too. This is a typical guesthouse for the area, a self-built house with the usual odd stairs, 5" high door opening and self installed toilets. Aesthetics (and architecture for that matter) are still a far-fetched concept in way too many guesthouses. Which is paradoxical if you consider the absolute antique wonders peppered throughout the region.
As for Gül Pansiyon, when we got there we insisted to have super cheap accommodation, all we wanted basically was a roof and a shower. They showed us a room which had a super hard bed, with linen much too crisp. Towels felt like sand paper. No water pressure at the tap, and only one drop of out water out of three... The next morning it turned there was a much cheaper and actually much nicer option, a room on the top floor overlooking the whole valley. I wouldn't have mind the shared bathroom, since there was nobody else on that floor anyway. I would have preferred to be given the choice. Failing to display the various options just to squeeze a few liras out of the tired trekker is not what I would call a nice attitude. Food was plain, wine was terrible, and the whole price was, like the rest, expensive for what it was. Like mot travelers, I am super happy to pay for quality when I get it. Otherwise it just feels like extortion, as it was in this guesthouse. All in all I prefer to give money to people who care most. Those who see the accommodation business as a service, not as a trade.
There is a nice patio with couches where you can relax and chat with other guests if you so desire. All in all there are better options a bit further down the road. Indications given by the waiter were erratic at best. Clearly, he never walked the Lykian Way at all.
