I booked a twelve night stay for me and my husband in early June, thinking we would avoid the English school half term holiday. (I retired from teaching last Summer, and was looking forward to my first big holiday in term time, with fewer children!!) We did, but what we didn't know was that Turkish and Russian schools finish for the summer that week. We also like the concept of all inclusive ie not having to carry money around with you. Upon our arrival we were blown away by the setting and thought we were in paradise. However, our pleasure soon turned to disappointment.
A stunning location and setting;
bungalow rooms are spacious and we enjoyed having his and her wardrobes - no fighting for storage space for clothes;
the staff were all very friendly and courteous;
an enormous work force constantly cleaning or keeping the gardens tidy;
hourly shuttle boat into Fethiye. A visit to the fish market there is a must do. We bought 1kg tiger prawns and then had them cooked in garlic and chilli at the vendor's restaurant. Delicious and very good value for money.
the décor in our room was very tired- in need of refurbishment. A programme to update the accommodation is on going but will take some time to complete as the site is enormous;
The food, although plentiful, became boring after a while;
some families were delightful. However, in others the children were loud, unruly and downright rude - my husband was pushed away from the bar by two young girls as he waited to be served;
from 6.30 pm to 10.00 pm (when showtime begins) the village square, outside the agora bar, becomes a children's playground - skate boards, football, water squirters;
all the entertainment was in this area - the live music, from 9.15, provided by a three piece band, was drowned out by the repetitive music from the kid's disco on the Paradise beach below, then ended at 9.45, assuming that everyone was going to the show. Many couples, like us, said they would have liked the live music to continue. Why could this not be provided in the Marina Bar instead?
A recent review describes Letoonia as "Butlins in the sun". I would add to this...with a touch of PGL (school journeys) as during our stay, during each week a large group of teenage students arrived. Although not badly behaved, they were very noisy and arrived in the restaurant like a swarm of locusts.
Sadly, we will not be returning.
