We have been intrigued by the new road signs,on the Antalya to Fethiye road, for this ancient site. On the spur of the moment we decided to have a look.
The most scenic route from Fethiye is through Üzümlü and on to Gölhısar. You can get there, from the well signposted, off the Antalya road. It did feel the journey was longer on this route. Either way you will pick up signs for Kibyra when you approach the outskirts of Gölhısar.
Gölhısar is accessable by local transport from Fethiye. We did see a Dolmuş passing Kibyra en-route to another village (the village name escapes me) No doubt , you will get information from Fethiye Otogar.
When we visited there was nobody there to collect an entrance fee. Therefore, I cannot advise if there is a fee or not. There did not appear to be an information centre. We saw some toilets at the entrance to the site but they were guarded by a rather large dog. (Perhaps we visited too early in the season)
There are some useful explanatory signs throughout the site.
Kibyra covers a large area. You will need sun cream, a hat and water during your visit. Flip flops are not suitable foot wear.
It is an interesting site and worth the visit. Some restoration work has been undertaken.
