“"Mixed Feelings But A Good Holiday"”
Reviewed 31 July 2012

My partner and i booked this Holiday as a last minute inexpensive break, to escape the English weather.
We had read all the reviews and although its not our usual type of accommodation or Holiday we decided to have a change.
We were given a room in the new block, it was extremely small with a dark tiny bathroom, on the ground floor that was facing the main road. We asked if there was the possibility of a change of room, the following day we were moved to the old block, which by the look of it the rooms have all been totaly refurbished.
This room was really lovely, we had a corner room with three windows and a balcony, the views were of local houses, the river, with the locals fishing, and the sea in the background. The room was spotless, modern and fresh, the air con was good and we had a pleasant stay here.
The Hotel is kept spotless, the pools are a little deep for me with only a strip of waist deep water.
Goldie on reception was very helpful, i can understand why she gets mentioned many times, she is very friendly efficient and and dedicates her time to her guests and there many requirements.
We stayed on Bed and Breakfast and are glad we did, the Breakfast was lovely, plenty of Turkish Fare and a good selection every day.
We had one evening meal at the Hotel the "Fish and Chip" night. i think that put us off for the week. We made a reservation, but this was not recognised, our meal was late being served and we ended up eating on a table for two around the pool in the dark, there was no lighting just a candle on the table!!!. not romantic when your fish is full of bones.
The one person at the Hotel that we were far from happy with his attitude was the Head Waiter "Mehmet" We found this man from the onset was rude and unhelpful, quite amazing realy as a contrast to the rest of the staff who were so nice and smart. Mehmet forgot to shave most days and his attitude towards us was as bristly as his face.
A couple of days before we were due to fly home, a lady at the next table made a couple of rolls for the flight home, she gave them to Mehmet and asked him to wrap them for her, he was all smiles and jokey with her and did as she asked, coming back with the wrapped food and a big smile.
We commented about it with her and decided we would do the same. So a couple of days later we did just that, handed them to him to wrap, his face turned to thunder and he said "no" in front of all the tables around us, we asked why not as he had done so two days earlier, for some reason he did not understand this and refused to comment!! He was very nasty and threw our freshly made rolls away!!!
There is a sign apparently telling you not to make food to take away but we had not seen it, so it was a case of "Monkey see Monkey do" we would not have made a complete fool of ourselves otherwise.
I can appreciate the rules, and we would have adhered to them if we had seen them, but you can't have favorites if you are staff,it is totaly unprofessional and we feel that this did happen here. We spoke to another couple on the next table who overheard what was happening and there experience of him was very negative also, so good to know it was not just us!!!
We did have an enjoyable Holiday here though, we did our own thing and made our own fun. The Resort of Calis Beach is very Typical Turkish Touristy, full of Fakes and English type bars,English singers, this realy is a place for people who like the English experience in Turkey. There was very little Real Turkish Fare on offer in the Restaurants, there is a lot of competition and a lot of hassle.
one evening we got invited into one of the kitchens of one of the Restaurants on the prom in a bid to get us into their Restaurant, we were glad we did, the sight of a raw Fish laying basking in the heat, and a chicken dish also uncovered in the heat, was definitely a deciding factor not to eat there!!!
The Sea front is beautiful in the evening though and the sun sets are amazing.
If you get tired of the non authentic Turkish cuisine, hop on the Water Taxi over to Fethiye, this is a more "local" place, as it was Ramadan the atmosphere was good in the evening when the Fast finished. with the sounds of the fireworks and the Mosques.
its a lovely trip, takes 25 mins, and go to the Fantastic "Mosaic" Restaurant, this is a gem of a Restaurant the food and the service is superb, Turkish cuisine at its best.
Situated in the "Fish Market" area close to the Water Taxi drop off.
We also hired a jeep whilst here and drove to beautiful Cash, and spent two days in the beautiful lagoon at Oludeniz.
We had a good Holiday and yes we would visit both the Hotel and the area again.

Room Tip: We liked the old block, they are quieter.

This is our first visit to the Oykun and the hotel is fantastic!
The rooms are spotless, the beds are comfortable and are serviced every day.
The staff are friendly and can't do enough for you, Freddy and Veli on the
bar are absolutely fantastic and Freddy does a great whitney houston impression.
Breakfast is excellent and the Wednesday Turkish night is not to miss.
Dont bother looking elsewhere,we will be going back next year.
The beach is a five minute walk from the hotel, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants
to chose from.
The sunday market is a must and ony a few minutes ride on the dolmus, just ask for the market
and the driver will stop and tell you.On the way back just say "yes please" and he will stop.
Over all we had a superb holiday.

Andy.. North east.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the Oykun Hotel in Calis Beach.
The hotel was nicely situated about 5 mins work to the beach.
Both pools were kept spotless and the area cleaned every night.
The food was excellent, we had half board and for the 2nd week it was a la carte. The steaks were delicious! The Breakfast was very good with a wide choice of food. The only one criticism was that the salad stuff could have been better covered.
Our room was kept spotless and cleaned everyday, linen & towels changed every other day.
The reception staff were always helpful especially Goldie. The bar staff including Freddie were always pleasant and cheerful. The restaurant staff were particularly good, nothing was too much trouble and all staff greeted you with a smile.
I even had my first game of Bowls when I asked some local members of The Calis Bowls Club if I could join them. Goldie hired me the necessary woods etc for 15 lire!!
Can't wait to book for next year as this hotel

Room Tip: We had a high floor room with balcony in the old block looking towards the sea. It was simply but ni...

The Oykun Hotel is a fantastic place to stay! The hotel is clean, the owner and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I have stayed there twice and will hopefully be going back next year, I wouldn't waist my time looking at any other hotels. The location is ideal, minutes walk from the beach, bars, shops and restaurants. I especially enjoyed the turkish bath in the hotels very own spa!

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the new part of the hotel, it's a lot more modern! Plus if you don't like ste...

The Oykun Hotel is a delighful place to stay, the owner and staff are extremely friendly, especially Goldie (Reception) who will assist with any queries and will do whatever she can to make your stay comfortable.
The breakfast is excellent along with lunch and dinner.

The Oykun is a 5 -10 minute walk from the beach, with restaurants and shops galore. There is also a taxi water service which is a must!

The Nil Bar is the place to eat, if you venture out! ask for Angel and she will look after you, with her team!!! The food is excellent!!!
I highly recommend the Oykun if you are planning to visit Turkey!!!!! Jo London

Room Tip: All rooms are good, garden or pool views.

A fabulous hotel will a real friendly feel. Excellent standards of cleanliness and service.
Although rooms are compact they are spotless and more than adequate on holiday.
Breakfast offered sensible serving times and good selections.
Callis beach is a fabulous resort with many bars and cafes and restaurants whilst maintaining a traditional small resort feel. Great restaurants and caretta beach club a great place to spend your days for a change from the pool.
Oykun has great location for dolmus stops and the water taxi to fethiye.
A great place......already looking to go back!
