My partner and i booked this Holiday as a last minute inexpensive break, to escape the English weather.
We had read all the reviews and although its not our usual type of accommodation or Holiday we decided to have a change.
We were given a room in the new block, it was extremely small with a dark tiny bathroom, on the ground floor that was facing the main road. We asked if there was the possibility of a change of room, the following day we were moved to the old block, which by the look of it the rooms have all been totaly refurbished.
This room was really lovely, we had a corner room with three windows and a balcony, the views were of local houses, the river, with the locals fishing, and the sea in the background. The room was spotless, modern and fresh, the air con was good and we had a pleasant stay here.
The Hotel is kept spotless, the pools are a little deep for me with only a strip of waist deep water.
Goldie on reception was very helpful, i can understand why she gets mentioned many times, she is very friendly efficient and and dedicates her time to her guests and there many requirements.
We stayed on Bed and Breakfast and are glad we did, the Breakfast was lovely, plenty of Turkish Fare and a good selection every day.
We had one evening meal at the Hotel the "Fish and Chip" night. i think that put us off for the week. We made a reservation, but this was not recognised, our meal was late being served and we ended up eating on a table for two around the pool in the dark, there was no lighting just a candle on the table!!!. not romantic when your fish is full of bones.
The one person at the Hotel that we were far from happy with his attitude was the Head Waiter "Mehmet" We found this man from the onset was rude and unhelpful, quite amazing realy as a contrast to the rest of the staff who were so nice and smart. Mehmet forgot to shave most days and his attitude towards us was as bristly as his face.
A couple of days before we were due to fly home, a lady at the next table made a couple of rolls for the flight home, she gave them to Mehmet and asked him to wrap them for her, he was all smiles and jokey with her and did as she asked, coming back with the wrapped food and a big smile.
We commented about it with her and decided we would do the same. So a couple of days later we did just that, handed them to him to wrap, his face turned to thunder and he said "no" in front of all the tables around us, we asked why not as he had done so two days earlier, for some reason he did not understand this and refused to comment!! He was very nasty and threw our freshly made rolls away!!!
There is a sign apparently telling you not to make food to take away but we had not seen it, so it was a case of "Monkey see Monkey do" we would not have made a complete fool of ourselves otherwise.
I can appreciate the rules, and we would have adhered to them if we had seen them, but you can't have favorites if you are staff,it is totaly unprofessional and we feel that this did happen here. We spoke to another couple on the next table who overheard what was happening and there experience of him was very negative also, so good to know it was not just us!!!
We did have an enjoyable Holiday here though, we did our own thing and made our own fun. The Resort of Calis Beach is very Typical Turkish Touristy, full of Fakes and English type bars,English singers, this realy is a place for people who like the English experience in Turkey. There was very little Real Turkish Fare on offer in the Restaurants, there is a lot of competition and a lot of hassle.
one evening we got invited into one of the kitchens of one of the Restaurants on the prom in a bid to get us into their Restaurant, we were glad we did, the sight of a raw Fish laying basking in the heat, and a chicken dish also uncovered in the heat, was definitely a deciding factor not to eat there!!!
The Sea front is beautiful in the evening though and the sun sets are amazing.
If you get tired of the non authentic Turkish cuisine, hop on the Water Taxi over to Fethiye, this is a more "local" place, as it was Ramadan the atmosphere was good in the evening when the Fast finished. with the sounds of the fireworks and the Mosques.
its a lovely trip, takes 25 mins, and go to the Fantastic "Mosaic" Restaurant, this is a gem of a Restaurant the food and the service is superb, Turkish cuisine at its best.
Situated in the "Fish Market" area close to the Water Taxi drop off.
We also hired a jeep whilst here and drove to beautiful Cash, and spent two days in the beautiful lagoon at Oludeniz.
We had a good Holiday and yes we would visit both the Hotel and the area again.
