This place is just amazing!!! The atmosphere here is just so relaxing. If you do nothing else when stay in the area, make sure that you visit the Ghost Town - you won't regret it. You could easily spend hours just walking around the ruins of the village, the history of the place is very poignant and the chapel on top of the mountain is well worth the climb!!! The views of the entire ghost town and the sea are just breath-taking. This was our second visit to Kaya - we just love it here. The people are so friendly and the pancakes are amazing.

If you are greek then you should be visiting this village and reflect on what was once home for many greeks who relocated to Rhodes, Athens & Australia at the end of WW1 in the population exchange agreement. There is a 5TL fee when you arrive at the foot of the hill - we got off the bus in front of a cafe and where given a map by the old man running the restaurant who pointed us up the hill. We didnt see the ticket office and there was no one at the entrance so we didnt pay, I did see a guy there later in the afternoon checking that people were paying. It could be so much more if there were local guides offering stories and tours but you pretty much explore of your own. We didnt stick to the main path instead weaving in and out of the ruins. Sneakers or hiking boots are essential as the rocks are shiny and slippery. Buy your water at the bottom of the hill before you go up - if its a hot day you will be glad you did as there is no toilet or shops up the top. Depending on your interests you can do this in 30-45min or if you like photography or exploring in and out of the ruins we spent 2hrs before we couldnt take the sun anymore. You cant get into the main church just view from a gate. If you dont come you are not missing anything but it was sentimental for me knowing many greeks who may have descendants from this area. You can take the mini buses from fethiye town - just ask a driver for Kaya Village or Kayakoy. It cost 5L on the minibus and took around 45 min to get there. It was a nice half day trip and you can have lunch at one of the little restaurants at the foot of the hill - walk along the main rd and look for the small places making gozleme run by old ladies - support them.

Being able to see this old village/town was amazing. Makes hair on back of your head stand up. 8yr old thought it was wonderful especially when tour guide told us the history. A must visit when in Turkey. ♡♡
