“Best ever holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2009

General view of the whole family was that this was one of our best ever holidays. The hotel is absolutely fantastic - perfect location, clean, with friendly and helpful staff. We went half-board and found every evening meal fantastic - a huge selection of buffet starters, soup, excellent main course and dessert. The chef's a star. We were surprised more people didn't eat in but there are so many restaurants in Calis I guess people prefer to try something different. We certainly didn't regret our decision. We had a room on the right hand side of the hotel and enjoyed fantastic sunsets every night. The pool area is lovely with some shaded areas if you prefer. The beach is a stone's throw from the hotel but beware when swimming as there are some sharp rocks underfoot. Fethiye market is well worth travelling to on Tuesdays but Calis has its own market on Sundays which is worth a visit. An unforgettable holiday.

Overall an excellent holiday that we both enjoyed so much that we'd love to go back may be next year or the year after - and we've never been back to the same place twice yet! Great value for money, great hotel, great location, great food, friendly turkish people and beautiful weather.

Rooms - the higher floors are better. From what we could work out the odd room numbers have the pool & sea view, the others have either a garden area & sea view or full sea view. Make sure you state your preference on your booking or in writing to the hotel direct before hand on what room you want - double or twin etc. My husband and I turned up to a twin room but were offered a double room full sea view to move to two days later - much better! Aylum (the lady manager) was extremely helpful and understanding and couldn't do enough to make sure you enjoyed your holiday and go back!

The rooms are basic but you get maid service every day and they are kept very clean indeed. Fresh towels every day is rare in other hotels but standard in this one so that's good! Bathrooms were small but nice and perfectly fine for a holiday. Safe in room - cost about 30 Turkish lira for 2 wks (about £12) - very good value & worthwhile. We also hired a fridge for the room which cost £20 for the 2 weeks (can pay in sterling or lira on arrival).

The restaurant in the hotel we found quite slow and very pricey. However Leons (the little cafe/snack bar which also part of the hotel) was very cheap and good quality. It cost 8 lira for a jacket potatoe with 3 dressings/toppings and a soft drink included. Or a small pizza was 10 lira.

Location - beautiful location of hotel directly on the promenade with a 5m stroll across it to the beach! The breeze here in Calis beach is amazing - temperatures were hitting 40-50 degrees C every day but you often couldn't tell - unless it stopped and then it was sweltering! The sun sets over the sea / hills so all the restaurants along the promenade (about 20+) give you a great sunset view whilst having a drink or eating your dinner (sun set about 8-8.15pm).
NB Coach transfer from airport is about 45-50minutes.

Restaurants - our favourite was "Bostons" - it had excellent food & service. We went about 6 times. Very good price as well. Serve a variety of food from seafood, to steak to other traditional dishes. We also liked Mimozo - very nice food, good value, especially for lunches (we went nearly every day). No hassle, very friendly and fast service. Sat bar (pronouned with a "h" in it) is on the very end of the bay area, with views in all directions - amazing venue and lovely food (pricey) but we had poor service which was a shame. Chinese Breeze - a new restaurant that does chinese & indian. Indian food was poor. Chinese food was good. We went twice - the first time was excellent however the second visit it was busier and filled up - we waited 1hr 20 minutes to get our main course along with everyone else - it was awful. On average - a meal for 2 with some alcohol cost us about 60 lira (about £27, including tip). Lunch cost us about 22 lira (£9). So great value.

AIRPORT - BEWARE!!! The cost of food & drink in the airport is very high! A normal cheeseburger from MacDonalds that in the UK would cost 99p, cost about £4. And a meal deal was about £10!!!! So take your own food & drink - when we went they didn't have any restrictions however I'm sure there were signs saying they were coming into place at end August 09? So be careful about that with drink but food should be ok!

Hotel right on beach in stunning location at Calis Beach with views across Fethiye Bay. Excellent welcome from lady owner. Rooms clean and tidy with fresh towels every day and efficient aircon. Sea views from our balcony and all balconies as far as we could tell. Only downside was some missing tiles in bathroom. Breakfasts good, but cannot comment on other meals as we tended to eat out - this hotel pricier for food and drink than others nearby. The Mimoza a couple of doors down was very welcoming and the food was good. Can also recommend the Yasmin Cafe for a really cheap, wholesome meal and the English-run Pastries and Pies cafe when you tire of Turkish food, the latter two being away from the beach in the main part of town. Bella Mama's Italian on the seafront is excellent value at lunchtime but crowded and overpriced in the evenings. The beach was a bit of a letdown - grey sand and a far-from-sparkling sea. Tended to get the dolmus to Olu Deniz when we wanted clear blue Mediterranean Sea. Hotel pool was a little on the small side and rather shallow for a really good swim, but the gardens were lovely and there was no shortage of sunbeds. Fethiye is worth a visit for its Turkish atmosphere - go by water taxi for the experience, but the dolmus is much cheaper. Generally the Turks were very genial and showed no resentment if you failed to buy whatever they were offering. Not as cheap as we were hoping (in fact the Turkish lira rose against the pound stering while we were there - thanks, Gordon Brown!). Wine in particular is no cheaper than in the UK. Can recommend a cruise round the islands of Fethiye Bay as good value, also the truck safari. Big problem with the latter is that, although the hype advertises a swim in a crystal clear mountain river, it doesn't tell you that the river is right next to an ugly and extensive fish farm, although the farm is necessary to supply the lunchtime meal of barbecued trout. Generally speaking, a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday at the Hotel Mutlu, but probably would not return due to poor quality of the beach.

First time holidaying in Turkey - loved it!
Hotel Mutlu set in excellent position, lovely & clean with pleasant, helpful staff-nothing was too much trouble - Top marks to the Öncül brothers & crew who never stopped working all day & Yaz on the bar - characters that make the hotel a success!
Calis itself has views to die for, a fine shingle beach with a nice cooling breeze whipping up mid morning onwards.
Enjoyed many a night at Anna Bar/Restaurant a short stroll down the front. Food excellent & reaonable-entertainment on most nights from 10.30pm-well worth lingering for. Lovely staff - encouraged us to stay & watch rather than making way for other customers.
Take a water taxi to Fethiye (4TL) and enjoy the breeze on the way. Market on a Tuesday - go later in the day - too stiffling earlier on-open while 6pm. Smaller market at Calis on a Sunday - worth going to.
Booked a few trips through Seaside Travel - based further down the front at Calis- Ephesus & Pamukkale - an overnight stay - two long days but worth it - Erhan Saat a brilliant guide! Day trip to Dalyan EXCELLENT - wallowed in mud baths, saw Loggerhead Turtles, lunch included-all for £14.00.
Loved it so much going back end of October - couldn't get in any earlier - Hotel Mutlu fully booked-surely a testimony to its success!

If you are looking to visit Calis Beach then look no further than the Hotel Muttu. This hotel is a little gem and so convenient. it is situated on the beach just excellent for those who don't want to walk to far for a good swim.

The staff are excellent especially Eylem who just has to be the best receptionist in Turkey.

We have stayed here four years running, the first time was on a package tour, then after that we booked direct with hotel. Eylem arranges the transport and the taxi is always there to greet us.
If you stay make sure you say hello to Bayram who has the bar next door!

Traveled to Turkey for the first time ever and where not sure of what we would find, but loved it

Hotel
This was in a fantastic location' set right of the beach and the view from the bar are right out of a holiday brochure.Rooms cleaned every day, fresh towels each day as well' and a big plus AIR CON inclusive in the price, so a good nights sleep assured. You can get 3 different outlooks,a view over the pool area or one over the park or a few overlooking the sea,but all get a sea view of sorts due to the location.
The staff are excellent and can not do enough for you Eylem is loverly as everyone will tell you, also . Yaz , the bar man is great, always available to give you sound advise.
