“Near-perfect island retreat”
Reviewed 11 August 2014 via mobile

Sovalye Island is a small Manx -shapes island in the bay of Fethiye just ten minutes by small boat from the mainland.

It's an extremely tranquil place, just a few villas, a small boutique hotel and a beach restaurant. Both the hotel and restaurant are excellent.

It's an ideal place for a relaxing holiday but near enough to the mainland and more active life if you want it. Waking in the morning to overlook the mill-pond still bay with the sun rising it is hard to imagine a more perfect place. And as for sun-sets you may never see better.

Life here is easy. The local boat guys will do everything you need them to, including food shopping on he mainland or taking you to more restaurants.

I thoroughly recommend it for families/couples looking for an exclusive, tranquil getaway.

“Beach Club and a Restaurant”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

This is a new venture on the island. Get a water taxi from Cali's or Fethiye. The beach is sheltered from the prevailing win and gets the sun most of the day. The restaurant serves meals all day. There are loos and the water is cordoned off for swimming. Very quiet and great for relaxing and reading a book. Plenty to see as the gulets and fisherman come in to swim and fish. The island is tranquil. No cars and safe.

“Day out to Sovalye Island”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

My Husband and myself went over for the day, picked up by speedboat, in Çaliş, had the pick of the sunbeds, no one near us. Totally relaxing, no one bothered us. Few drinks lovely lunch, and speedboat trip back. Highly recommend.

“Tourists instead of tortoises”
Reviewed 16 August 2013

It's worth going to Sovalye just for the 20 minute boat trip. A water taxi makes 4/5 trips return trips each day with the final boat back at 7pm and (July 2013) the return trip costs 10 TL per person. Almost the entire journey is within Fethiye bay so there's little if any danger of feeling queasy. The boat is easy to spot if you walk around Fethiye harbour towards the new Marina. Be warned - it doesn't run to a precise schedule so make sure you are always at the pick up point 10 - 15 mins before the advertised departure time.

Sovalye is by no means the peaceful paradise it was when I stayed there 25 years ago and when wild turkeys and tortoises were commonplace. However, it's still relatively untouristy (there is one small hotel and a bar/restaurant) and when we visited there were only two families on the private beach.

The private beach isn't huge but it's provided with facilities such as traditional tent-like areas in which to relax and cool from the sun and fresh water. Not sure of the charge as we didn't stay there but you'll see it on the left hand side just as you come off the boat. There is a cordoned off safety area where boats are forbidden so it's great for children.

It is possible to find other places to swim around the island but the beaches are small and very stony and won't have any facilities. You might also find that you end up sharing them with half a dozen noisy boats from the 12 island cruises. If that worries you, get there earlier in the morning as most of the public trips seem to pitch up mid-afternoon.

You'll probably also want to take a picnic and PLENTY of water as all food and drink in the bar/restaurant is, not surprisingly, much more expensive than on the mainland.

Sovalye has a rich history and you can still see some ruins along the path but private housing has now taken over the wilderness I remembered. However, it's still an interesting and reasonably quiet place to swim and sunbathe.
