As a first trip to Turkey this was probably the worst hotel choice we could make.
The hotel is in a pretty bad shape and would need a refresh on almost all fronts. The cleaning of the rooms is extremely superficial and the location is a bit far from everything – except for the “sea front promenade” offering a handful of overpriced restaurants targeted purely to English tourists.
There are two buildings: an old main building with a swimming pool with exactly 8 (!) sunbeds in the shade and a smaller swimming pool at the secondary, a bit newer building with another 6 sunbeds, very early in the shade.
Room:
We stayed in the main building which is old, stifling hot, damp and very smelly. The air condition in the room worked mostly, but cannot be regulated, thus you get a cold very fast. The double room contained two very small beds which were separated and had very old and worn mattresses. People with back problems better avoid this hotel. There was a small balcony with obstructed sea view and non-obstructed view on the wastebins with a door which was stuck and was difficult to open and close.
When asking to switch the room to one in the “newer” building, we found out that the room was practically the same, though giving directly to the small swimming pool and poolbar. We thus preferred staying in the old room.

Cleanliness:
The rooms are cleaned every day but only the drapes and potentially the floor. Once, at 9:00 a.m. the cleaning lady entered the room 2 seconds after knocking at the door and was angry when we told her to come back later... :-)

Breakfast:
Officially served from 8 to 10. As outside seating is extremely limited, you need to be there at 7:50 to get a table. Always the same breakfast: 2 types of tasteless cheese, ham, tasteless eggs (boiled or scrambled, depending on the day), 15g packages of honey, butter, and tasteless jam, slices of tomatoes & cucumbers, bread. Add to this one of the worst coffees we have ever tasted and this leaves tea for breakfast. At ~8:30 almost all breakfast is gone and normally there does not seem to be any refill.
At ~9:30 the waiters will start to remove the seating, even the ones at your table, in order to make sure you are kicked out by 10:00 sharp.
Swimming pool:
The main swimming pool is pretty nice but gets very crowded by 10:00. As mentioned before, the number of sunbeds is extremely limited. In summer, it is impossible to be in the sun before 18:00 – which is exactly the time when the pool closes and you are kicked out by the waiters without exception.
The 8 sunbeds available in the shade are blocked with towels at most times from 8:00 on.
Dinner:
Officially from 20:00 to 21:30.
Same remarks as for breakfast: you need to be very early to get outside seating, at 20:30 all entries and desserts are gone without refill and at 21:00 at the very latest (sometimes at 20:40) the waiters start to clean up and kick you out.
The quality and variety of the entries are fine. However, the quality of the meat is not acceptable – with the exception of chicken kebap which is served only once per week. We came down with diarrhea one evening right after dinner, just for info ...
Animation & excursions:
No animation. You can book excursions at the reception, but without any guidance.
Customer service:
With the exception of the reception and the manager of the restaurant. almost no employee talks English, German a bit more apparently.
In general, with the exception of the reception on some chosen days, all employees are extremely unfriendly, in particular most waiters and the cleaning ladies. We never really felt welcome in this hotel.

Guests:

Mostly Turkish and Russian guests. English and Germans are the minority. Most guests are very rude and arrogant. But hey, we have to give a good example abnd behave differently, right :-) ?

WIFI

Free WIFI is available, but only works in the lobby, thus unbearable in summer.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the newer building across the street. You will not have any obstructed sea view but might get a better room. Be careful that it is not in front of the swimming pool.

Stayed at the Malhun Hotel (Otel) for 10 nights all inclusive, as a hotel it was ok, rooms are cleaned and linen and towels changed daily if required. only 2 downsides to the hotel, the satelite tv in every room, you get turkish or german channels but the only english one is the BBC World Service, not good if you have children. The other is the food, its ok but very basic, the breakfast is very turkish and they rotate the way the eggs are cooked, 1st day scrambled, 2nd day fried, 3rd day boiled, you can get tea or coffe at breakfast, the only other time is between 4 - 5 pm for tea and cake, tea / coffee making facilities are not available in the room. Lunch and evening meal are also done on a rotation, the first night it looked like it was a cold dinner, but when i went to the bar for a drink I noticed a queue outside, when i looked there was a barbacue outside for the hot meat etc, this was not signposted at all. My other slight concern is that none of the food laid out included any lables for what it was, if anybody had allergies to anything eg nuts it could of caused a problem. Saying all that though the hotel itself is very well run, the staff are very nice, friendly and approachable. Always willing to help if asked. The pool is also nice and clean.

The surroundings other bars and restaurants make up for the few irritations i found, I tried various places all to a good standard, but would like to recommend two that stood out for me.

The first is the Sunshine Steak House (turn left out of the bar attached to the Malhun and down 150 yards) the food is excellent, highly recommend the various casseroles, and if you ask for it to be cooked in an otterman pot, wow!!! its brought to your table on fire, the fire is put out, the top of the pot is cut off in one mighty chop and the food is poured onto your plate steaming hot, it tastes wonderful. also at any time the staff could breakout into turkish / kurdish singing and dancing, sometimes i wondered if they new they are doing it. On the whole a very pleasant experience and the all day breakfast isnt bad neither.

The 2nd recomendation is the Caretta Beach Club, (turn right out of the bar at Malhun and down about 200 yards). this is exactly what it says, it is a beach bar / restaurant run by Helen and her Partner, if you spend 10TL (about £3.00) at the bar you get for free a beach lounger for the day, and the staff will come and check if you require anything to eat or drink and will serve you at your lounger. you can also sit at the tables off the beach and enjoy the stunning views over the Med whilst eating and drinking, the food is excellent the drinks menu is varied (they are not sure of my invention of Baileys and Vodka cocktails but they will lol). The staff are really friendly, they will come for a chat but do not interfere. The VFM is excellent I cannot recommend the Caretta Beach Club highly enough.

If you visit the Calis Beach area you have to go on some of the day trips, i went on the Jeep Safari, this is a whole day of fun and laughter and includes a cooked lunch in the 40TL price and you get picked up and dropped off at your hotel in the jeep, but be prepared to get wet and dirty, especially going to the natural mud pool, the guide will help you lol.

Also the 12 island boat trip is another that is excellent value and also includes a cooked lunch on the boat, you see some stunning views as well as having a chance to swim in some of the bays the boat anchors at.

Another good day out is the trip to Fethiye Market, it is a stunning market, the sellers are funny with the sales patter but the bargains are amazing especially if you know how to barter hard, afterwards you are driven to a ghost town which is incredible especially when the guide tells you all about why it is a ghost town. You can also buy lunch here at a very reasonable price.

On the whole the Malhun Hotel was a very nice place to sleep whilst on holiday, the surroundings and people are what make the experience fantastic, VFM is amazing, in fact i'm going to go back on a bed and breakfast basis and eat out all the time and yes I would stay at the Malhun again.

Malhun hotel is basic three star hotel with convenient location very close to Calis beach. The rooms were reconstructed with basic equipment and furniture. Each room has a small terrace. The housekeeping services provided in the hotel were very basic, no proper cleaning was really done and the housekeeping staff looked ally annoyed, like the rest of the hotel staff present there. Front desk never greeted anyone, did not really speak English, we spent ages waiting for the waiters to take our orders and even longer for getting the bill. The only thing that we enjoyed in the hotel were dinners, the food was really good, great variety of vegetables and salads and choice of 3 main courses. Desserts were basic and all the same all the time. The breakfasts consisted all the same stuff every day, disgusting scrambled artificial eggs, etc. What pissed me off most was the surcharge for the fridge which was 15 lira per week. I always find this inappropriate whwver hotel creates these surcharges and calls the fridge a "minibar".
I really found difficult dealing withnthe staff which was very annoyed and not willing to help.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms on 1st floor, as you can hear the noise from the breakfast restaurant.

just returned from 10 nights at the malhun, hotel very clean, rooms good with seaview and serviced daily, food although not a massive choice was always good especially the mixed grill (barbecue).
staff friendly and very hardworking.pool nice and could always get bed or table near pool although they have an annexe behind which has another nice pool and bar.
not many english guests as hotel appears to cater more for germans.russians and turkish but this was no problem at all as all guests friendly and sadly most other nationalities more respectful than a certain percentage of brits. hotel in great position on beach (not sandy) which is clean and sea good, also away from main buzz of seafront so quieter.only fault was lights round pool turned off at 10.30 when all inc ended and was put into adjacent hotel next door on 1st night due to booking mix up but was sorted by manager next day although i don't think we were the only guests this happened too.
all in all would return to this hotel and calis beach is a great spot (our 2nd visit).
would also recommend booking jeep safari with focus tours on sea front (£12 each) great fun (but very wet due to water fights etc)

Room Tip: rooms towards front get better views and get down for dinner around 7.30 to get table outside.

We stayed in this hotel in first ten days of August 2012. Temperature was very high, which is usual in this time of the year - during the day over 40°C and early in the morning not under 30°C. Humidity is very high so it is not pleasent at all.
Hotel is clean and quiet. Room was small, bathroom too. Restaurant is in the main building and it's hot and stuffy. There are some tables outside by the pool, and there is more pleasant to eat (if you can find place). Food is not very good. For breakfast you can have eggs, two types of bread, artifical honey (!), margarine, chees, yogurt, cofee, tea, some strange salami, and so on (always the same). For dinner there is one main meal (chicken breasts, some meal of minced meat, potatoes etc.) and many types of salads. Salads are mainly without any taste (there are few exceptions). Generaly food is tasteless.

Beach is near, covered with gravel. Wind is almost always blowing, so waves are sometimes high. Wind is blowing from sea, so there is some grass in the water floating, it's dirty and water is not very clear. However, beach is clean and there is no any garbage in water. There is no natural shade so during the day it's very hot. Water is hot and very pleasent. Sun is very strong - beware of burnings.
