Hotel Forest Gate is a quiet place just next to the forest. Very comfortable sleep in the night. Also great swimming pool and bar. Restaurant is good. Fresh local food.

Rooms are simple and comfortable. Some single rooms do not have balcony but you have to ask for room details so they will help you willingly.

Just returned from having spent a most enjoyable and relaxing two weeks at this hotel. All the staff are most attentive,Especially Ulke who made us feel like returning freinds from the first moment we walked into the hotel and with her local knowledge only helped to enhance our holiday.
The location is given away in the title, nestled in the edge of a forest with some wonderful areas to walk and some wonder views.
This is not really a hotel or even area for young children as it is just not targeting that market .
The grounds and pool are kept in 1st class condition, rooms although not huge are pretty standard cleaned daily our room backed on to pine forest the only sound was from the wildlife absolutly wonderful. .
Yes the prices at the bar is a little bit more expensive than in Gocek which in itself is a tad more expensive the other more over developed resorts, but the owners guest base is the 1-2 night stoppers prior to boarding a boat or going to the airport, so its the same as the hotels around Gatwick where costs are higher.
On Thomas cook who I have used and enjoyed for the past 10-15 years lets just say this was not there finest hour or even a good 10 minutes what with absolutly no contact from the rep over two weeks,we even had to phone up to get out pick up time, which they got wong and arrived 1 hour after the informed time, why they don't sell this hotel more is beyond me someone has got the wrong idea about this place.
If you want discos clubs etc go somehere else and leave this beautiful, relaxing and above all else quiet area alone.

There appears to be a mixed bag of reviews for the Forest Gate Hotel. Our experience was excellent. The staff were attentive without being obtrusive, the room was basic but clean with fresh towels and bedding every day. Breakfast was included which was perfectly adequate and the staff accommodated my request to swap the bread and cheese for fresh fruit. The grounds were well maintained and the pool was exceptionally clean. The hotel is only a 15 minute walk to Gocek centre making it an ideal place to stay. We will certainly be visiting again.

Having just returned from Hotel Forest Gate in Gocek, I have to add my comments so that the poor reviews of the past do not put off future guests.

This was our third trip to Gocek and our first time at Forest Gate. It is a lovely hotel (well more complex of low level apartments) conveniently situated a short (and flat!) walk in to town. Literally in the forest, the grounds and surrounding area could not be more beautiful. There are private villas on the road, but to be honest you would think that you were in the middle of nowhere.

Our room was small and basic, but very clean and well maintained. We were supplied with fresh towels everyday and the cleaner even made our beds.

The hotel grounds are immaculately clean and quite simply beautiful. We were lucky as there were not many guests staying at the same time as us (world cup) and so we had the luxury of plenty of sun loungers to choose from and sometimes the pool all to ourselves. I think there are 22 rooms on the site, so if all were full it might be a little crowded. The pool is really lovely and very well maintained.

All the staff were exceptionally accommodating (especially Ulka the bar tender) and spoke a good level of English. Nothing was too much trouble. We booked directly with the hotel and they arranged to pick us up from the airport which was great, especially when we looked at all the package holiday travellers being crammed on to hot and sweaty buses. Our transfer back was equally as well organised.

The breakfast is good. Due to the number of guests staying there was not the normal buffet offer, rather individually plated. However, we were able to tell them pretty much what we wanted and they were happy to oblige. The hotel grows some of it's own produce on site, onions, lettuce, herbs etc and the chef actually comes out and picks what he needs in front of you which is a nice touch (although they don't make as much of this as they should).

Lunch and evening food is fairly basic but tasty and reasonably priced. To be honest with so many good restuarants in town most people would probably not eat at the hotel in the evening.

Alcoholic drinks are quite pricy compared to some places in town, however they serve their ice cold Efes in glasses from the freezer so you cant really complain.

The hotel seems to be having a bit of a revamp (not that it really needs it). While we were there new sun loungers were delivered and the owner has just employed someone to market the hotel. The owner lives on site with his family which gives it a very personal feel.

Apparently some of the negative feedback posted on Forest Gate may be attributed to their now ently defunct relationship with Thomas Cook, who apparently have not paid the hotel since way back in 2009. Which if true is disgraceful. On this point we made friends with another couple staying who were the last Thomas Cook guests to ever stay there - they were being picked up four hours before their flight! Dalaman airport is 20 mins away!!!!

I hope that the hotel are able to market and fill their rooms directly with travellers rather than going through travel companies who pay hotels only a fraction of the real room rate. It's easy to book a flight directly to Dalaman and we called the hotel directly to book our room - no problem. We only booked 4 days before travelling and despite this all the confirmation and transfers were dealt with immediately and without hitch.

With regards to Gocek it's an idyllic unspoilt little town. The marina is full of very expensive yaughts and there's some seriously rich people who visit here. That said the prices of the restaurants and bars don't reflect this so you have the benefit of an up-market resort without having to spend stupid money.

Would recommend Dr Jazz for Long Island Ice Teas (don't have too many as they are really strong!) and Limon Restaurant for vegetarians. Also Kebabi on the main square - the name does it no favours. There's also a bar right at the end past the camp site (can't remember the name) that is right on the waters edge and has loads of seating and bean bags. You can even sit at the end of the jetty and watch the ships come in. Also check out the wine bar on the main street that runs through town - think its called the Vineyard and is run by John a really lovely English guy. You can try all the wines before you decide!

Happy happy holiday! Love Gocek, love Forest Gate.

Firstly let me say, having read all the horror stories about the Forest Gate, I did have some reservations. Also starting the holiday with a "Go There" - "Go Here" dance at the airport orchestrated by Thomas Cook''s trusty travel reps did little to cheer me up as we were stuck in a taxi and despatched to Forest Gate with a driver who didn't know where it was. But more on TC later.

The Location: Simply the best. An oasis of calm only rivalled by a 3 week break we spent in the Tamarind Hotel in Goa. Both hotels were similar, traditional, no frills but good quality, clean and comfortable.

The Accommodation: You get what you pay for in this world. And what we paid for the 7 nights B&B at the Forest Gate was great value for the money. Our room was small but clean, comfortable and well maintained. No bugs; clean linen; fresh towels; cleaners who actually did clean the room and the bathroom.

Breakfast: A substantial "continental" breakfast with boiled egg, cheese, preserves, olives etc. Freshly made coffee and available from 8.00 am 10.30 am.

The Pool: Lovely little pool constantly being cleaned by staff with loungers, seat pads and towels provided.

The Staff: All the staff at this hotel went out of their way to make our holiday enjoyable. We are not the most demanding of guests, but the staff here could not have done anymore to make our stay as enjoyable as it was. Which is more than I can say for Thomas Cook and their merry band.

The TC Experience: Firstly despite the promises in their Local Flavours Brochure - no Free Guidebook... So we arrived at Dalaman Airport and were directed to Booth 4 in the Car Park by the TC rep. When we got to Booth 4 we were sent back by the TC Rep to the Airport Front Door, where we were told we were being put in a taxi. Last we heard from Thomas Cook... On checking out of our hotel room at noon on Sunday, I asked the receptionist if he knew what the arrangements for our return travel to Airport were. No. No contact had been made by TC with the Hotel or us during the preceding 7 days. He kindly agreed to contact the company on my behalf. He was told that we would be picked up at 4.00pm. And at 4.45pm a minibus arrived to take us to Dalaman Airport. I have contacted TC to express my concerns, not that we were up or down about their particular incompetence, being seasoned travellers. But had we been young and inexperienced in a strange country where the staff spoke little or no english, it would not have been a easy trip. So if you're travelling with TC beware, what they promise is not what they deliver.

I stayed at Forest Gate for one night on a three week trip in Turkey, and at first glance this looks like one of the most beautiful Hotels you’ve ever seen. Then you check in. The people managing the hotel seemed to be clueless as to how a fancy hotel, such as theirs, should be run, and to make matters worse one of them, a Cuban named Carlos, was one of the most obnoxious people I have ever met. He would not stop talking, and could not take a hint. He spewed endless jabber as if he were a five year old, and is the last person you would want to meet during what was supposed to be a relaxing stay. I will not lie; forest gate is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are nice, the pool is beautiful, and the architecture is impressive. However I strongly feel this is all negated by the utter ineptitude of the staff.

Stayed at The Forestgate in 2008 for 2 weeks , Yes at first glance the hotel looks great , with a lovely pool and quite location , but this is where it all stops. You have to make sure you get your shower early or else all the hot water runs out by 6.00pm .During our stay his son everyday rode his quad bike from4.00pm till about 7.00pm round and round the hotel so if you wanted a sleep you've got no chance.I felt that we were just an inconvience for the owner .The staff seem to come and go in the 2 weeks we were there and what staff he did have couldnt speak a word of english .
The breakfast was the typical Turkish basic style with no airs or graces
This hotel has the potential to be a fantastic getaway but unfortunately it's badly managed
