“Flotilla sailing from Neilson's”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

We had a week's flotilla sailing from Neilson in Adakoy. A group of 6 of us had a Beneteau 373, a comfortable boat that handled very well. We were all rusty sailors so we asked for a skipper for the first 3 days and Neilson allocated Mike to us, to show us the ropes.
The area we sailed in was quiet, very calm and really beautiful. Nights were spent on restaurant's moorings. Food was good and Turkish chefs coped well with my gluten free diet. Swimming in the crystal clear waters was delightful. Sailing in October meant the days were sunny and the nights cool so it was possible to sleep comfortably on board.
A very good introduction to a Flotilla holiday, if you want better winds though this area of Turkey is not for you.

I was slightly nervous leaving sunsail after many great holidays with them, so I had some concerns that neilson wouldn't be as good, nothing could he further than the truth why?

*staff were approachable funny and helpful, nothing was a problem
*the club resort although small is well run, all clean, professional and customer focused
*beautiful location and a bit quirky on an island, needing a small ferry
*after the commercial, un personal re it's size and chaotic gocek marina, very pleasant to see a small and family feel to the marina
*the yachts were all almost relatively new.
*flotilla itinerary was really interesting taking in some lovely spots, the coastline revealed some picture post card stops for a lunch anchor
*finally the lead boat crew ed, mike & steve really made the difference, of course it's their jobs, but they go beyond that, you can see they love doing what they do, which ensures you do.

Acid test would I go again with them? already booked for May.

A superb holiday

A fantastic time had by all and I was surprised to find myself joining in with all the activities. I had principally booked the holiday for our 2 teenage children, who had the time of their lives - in fact, we barely saw them all week. The Neilson staff were excellent and were generally very helpful in all areas.

We could have done with patio heaters in the beach bar and more pillows and blankets in the rooms during October as it got quite cold in the evenings and early mornings.

We will probably return next October.

Just returned from Adakoy. We did the same trip this time last year and cannot fault it either time. Staff, facilities, safety and no hidden extras unlike our poor Mark Warner experience earlier this summer. Cannot recommend enough!

We did the flotilla holiday the second week of October with 2 children and had a great time. The boat was virtually brand new, spacious and spotless - the shower was the best I've ever seen on a boat.
Grant the lead boat skipper was brilliant and entertained our kids every evening, they loved him. Food at all the tavernas was excellent - lots of barbecued freshly caught fish and freshly baked bread in the mornings.
We were also lucky with the weather so although it was a bit chilly the first day it warmed up as the week went on...
We went to some beautiful remote bays and swam in crystal clear water and the kids loved it.
Will definitely go sailing with Neilson again in the future!!

We are a family of four: mum & dad in their mid/thirties, a 4 year old daughter and a 19 month of son. We spent the last 2 weeks of September at Adakoy had a fabulous time!

The 7am flight out of Gatwick went well, and so did the coach transfer to Marmaris and the oat transfer to Adakoy.

The site is lovely, not too big which means that everything is within easy reach but big enough for all the guests to have their own space.

We had booked an interconnecting room which was perfect for us and well worth paying for as the double rooms are on the small side. It also meant that once the children were in bed, we could have an evening without worrying that they might wake up. In fact, ever night we would put the kids to bed and then quickly pop in to the restaurant and take our food back to the room and have a lovely meal on our terrace.

The food was diverse and very tasty. Lots of healthy options as well as treats, which made for a healthy and enjoyable diet. 4 dinners are included in the price which is perfect as it gives people an opportunity to go to Marmaris the other nights to try something different. For those who want to stay in situ, there is a very popular BBQ night every week and a la carte dining for the other nights. Which we tried and were very happy with.

The activities on offer were brilliant: tennis claases and tournaments, waterskiing and water boarding , kayak safaris, kayak water polo, sailing courses, windsurfing courses, paddle boarding, swimming, mountain bike rides, and lots of fitness classes including Zumba, yoga and Pilates. I loved the fact that the activities cater for every level, which means that I did feel self-conscious but happilly joined in with fellow beginners. It was good to also be able to relax by the pool or on the beach and the sea is very safe. The spa was great too and I used it for waxing and 2 full body massages which I loved having done. Can't really comment on the evening entertainment as with the kids we did not do much but there was something on every night for those who wanted to attend.

The kids clubs were brilliant! For the over 2s, it is open from 9.30am until 5.30pm 4 days a week and from 2.30pm until 5.30pm on the days when thre is sleep club in the evening (which we didn't use but which others said was great). For the under 2s, it is roughly the same, save that the babies do not stay at lunchtime but need to be collected at 12.30pm and kept until 2.30pm. The fact that the kids clubs are not open all day long 7 days a week suited us perfectly as it meant we got a perfect balance of time alone to do our activities/to relax and time to enjoy our kids. The activities for the kids were just as great as the ones for the adults and our little ones went sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, power boating, swimming, they had tennis classes, they did lots of arts and craft, fed the fish, had ice cream Thursdays etc...it was full on and lots of fun!

For those who travel with young children, there is no need to worry about the medical help that is available if needed: our son cut his hand with glass on day 2 of the holiday and was seen by the hotel doctor who took us to a private clinic where he was seen straight away and had stitches done. Quite inevitably the stitches got infected a few days later as our son was unable to follow instructions to keep his bandage clean, but then again the private hospital was brilliant and the course of antibiotics he was prescribed just did the job. The only thing to bear in mind is that a trip to hospital takes a while as one needs to get on a boat and walk or take a 40 minute taxi ride. But I guess that is the price to pay to be on the lovely Adakoy island rather than the busy and noisy Marmaris!

The weather was lovely although it started to become cooler in the last couple of days. There were quite a lot of bees, which we were told was because it is a natural reserve, and despite the fact that the hotel has put traps in various places.

Last but not least, one word to describe the team: superb!!! The beach team, fitness instructors, spa therapists, bar tenders, chefs, waiters, cleaners, club nannies and managers were so good at what they do and so incredibly friendly, it made our holiday!!!

We had a great holiday and will definitely book with Neilson again in the future.

4 of us had a great holiday here. It’s the 3rd time we have travelled with Nielson and we loved it. Resort is as per other reports very compact, but it was also very friendly and we didn’t feel squashed at all during our stay despite it being just before peak season (early July). Room was lovely although the bed was a little too firm. Food was excellent, it is the best food I have ever had in a hotel. It was always fresh, it didn’t feel like it was being recycled from the last meal and I never saw an empty plate the whole time we were there.

The setting is very picturesque but only had 2 tennis courts which were (along with the lessons) very oversubscribed. There was a lack of beach staff presence to help with getting windsurfing gear and the winds were very light while we were there. Spa was excellent, the girls gave a great massage. Gym is very small couple of bits of equipment squashed in a corner. Aqua and Pilates was very good.

We travelled from London and what they hadn’t made clear was you get a ferry to the resort and we had to wait on it for the Manchester flight to arrive. No problem for us as we pulled out some shorts and sat in sun drinking beer but I if you didn’t know and had a young family it would be pretty annoying. Marmaris is just a short boat ride away (they put boats on during day and twice during evening for a small fare) and it was nice to get out of the resort for a change but it is very loud and ‘brits abroad’, there are a couple of nicer restaurants on the right of the harbour area near the small fort which are worth a go.
