Club Dorado Hotel
Ranked #97 of 234 Hotels in Marmaris
Reviewed 31 October 2012

I've stayed in Marmaris once before and this has confirmed this part of Turkey is not for me. I was at the hotel from 23rd Oct - 30th Oct.

We arrived gone midnight and was greeted by the female receptionist who gave us our room key, air con remote and told me the hotel has free WIFI, we didn't actually get told where to go but it is clear there is a lift.. We went up to our room on the 3rd floor and that is where the noise began.

The hotel is all open plan so you can hear everything from everyone; people coming in at night, people slamming doors and the hotel lift. For the first three nights we go next to no sleep due to this. We spoke to other guests on different floors who felt the same. Our balcony door also didn't close correctly so we could also hear noises from outside. The hotel is clean and the rooms are spacious and the maid does the basics.

We had breakfast on our first day which was horrific. Cold beans, hard boiled eggs and hot dog sausages in a weird sauce. The toaster burns the bread and there was smoke coming from it. (You can smell this from your room) Breakfast stayed pretty much the same all week apart from soggy scrambled eggs on the odd day. Lunch & dinner didn't really get much better, although I'd recommend the chicken nuggets, chicken breast & meatballs. Sunday was the best lunch and dinner. Chicken kebab freshly done in front of us with all the trimmings. (salad, sauces, chips..) The 'beef' was chewy and people wasn't even sure if it was beef. It would be better if there was food tags, I did ask the man standing there but he grunted at me, I just guessed he couldn't speak any English.

As AI you can only use one of the bars, the other bar is for paying only and you get better cups, better drinks and a better service. Bar staff do work hard but sometimes walk away when they can see you walking to the bar, even though there is a sign for one drink per person I sometimes got 5 at a time! They sometimes let young girls work behind the bar, this just slows down the service and both times it was just before the end of AI, not sure if that is the con. If you don't buy drinks from the paid bar I did notice the staff wasn't as nice to you, the people who paid got better treatment, even their luggage taken to the car for them!

The owner is very nice and this is the first hotel I have been in where I have seen and spoken to the owner, he went out of his way to accommodate us and even drove us into town to help sort out a problem.

NOT TO DO WITH THE HOTEL:
Buy your excursions from BAT MAN (across the road) and no September (next to Sarah's bar). September conned us twice and got very abusive when spoken to!

Don't book airport transfers with UNITED BLUE as they came 25 minutes late, dropped us off at the side of the road and we waited 20 minutes then a coach came and we made it to the airport with moments to spare!

Overall I would say the hotel is a nice basic hotel in a good location but there were too many problems wrong with it for me to say I'd like to come back. I found the hotel very boring and there was only entertainment one day. (Male belly dancer & dancers) I will not be returning.

added bonus - The hotel has scales for you to weigh your case

Dear PartyIslandGirl,

Firstly thanks for your review. You seem to have been given accurate information at reception on checking-in and the lift is adjacent to the reception. With just 12 rooms on single corridor floor we are sure you did not have too much trouble locating your accommodation. We have covered the noise issue in previous responses, sadly there are some very inconsiderate people who cause disturbance although we do our best to ask those who do this to try to be more considerate of others. As a result of comment made on Trip Advisor we will be highlighting this in our new guest information leaflet in 2013 and placing additional sign on each floor. Had the balcony door in your room been reported faulty it would have been swiftly repaired by our full-time technician. We take room maintenance very seriously especially matters relating to health and safety. Your account of the food provision poses several questions. If the toaster was faulty and causing issues with smoke in guest’s rooms why was it not reported? The hotel advertises a Turkish breakfast but also supplements the normal Turkish food selection with British favourites including scrambled eggs, sausage and baked beans. We are sorry that this along with cold meats, salads, bread selection, cereal, preservatives, honey, fresh fruit, fruit juices and hot beverages was not a wide enough range for your breakfast. The issue regarding the labelling of foods has been addressed and will be monitored closely in 2013. We try to treat all of our guests with courtesy but it is fairly likely that guests who use the main bar and who get to know the staff build up a better relationship with them. Any guest can get assistance with luggage on request regardless of their bar spend. We are pleased to note that you got assistance when needed from the owner who took you into town in his own private transport. That level of personal service does not seem to have made much of an impression which is disappointing to read. We were sad to read so many negatives including the issues with other local traders. Hopefully your future holidays will be more successful.

Best Regards

This was my 4th time in turkey 2nd time in Marmaris. Was at this hotel from 23rd oct -30th.We usually stay in 5 star but this was a last minute deal,3 star is not for me.Arrived early hours of the morning, given room key and remote and not even told where to go, our room was on the 3rd floor, friends were up on the fifth. We were very tired after the 2 hour plus transfer and went to bed after an hour, that's when the noise started the open plan of the hotel means you hear everything, banging doors, shouting, kids running around etc then in the morning all you can smell is burnt toast.Rooms were very spacious and clean but they don't have a fridge or a bin, bathroom is in need of updating the toilet seat is a stained yellow colour just glad that i always pack a few cleaning essentials. The food is edible but its the same most days and mostly cold too.We had 4 days of the same beef stuff being dished up nobody was eating it.Luckily on sunday they done a lovely chicken kebab which put a big smile on everyone's face. Some of the staff at the hotel were really nice others were miserable,Mohammed and Mehmet the bar staff work really hard and long hours, but would sometimes ignore you when you were waiting to get a drink.Ibrahim the owner is really nice and went out of his way to help myself and my daughter he took us in his car to marmaris to help sort out a problem,Thanks again Ibrahim,Sarah also the owner was always at the hotel too she was also very nice.We booked our excursions with Batman he has a shop right opposite the hotel £15 for the Dalyan mud bath trip/turtle beach this was an excellent day out.We also used the taxis it was only 10 lira to point centre which is the perfect location to do some retail therapy and is right next to Marmaris beach.Icmelor market is a must on a monday just for the banter but remember to haggle.Club Dorado also do a free shuttle bus to Icmelor beach every morning and returns at 4.30pm.Club Dorado is not a bad hotel there are plenty more worse ones in Marmaris,it just wasn't for me so i wont be returning.

Dear londongirl042,

Thanks for your review of our hotel. After a few trips to Marmaris you must be familiar with the hotel standards and if you usually stay at 5 star properties our 3 star, value for money proposition would not have been a fair comparison. You were unfortunate to have experienced high noise levels due to the inconsideration of other guests and that is something we will now focus on as a result of comments on trip advisor. We don’t have fridges in rooms but will shortly upgrade to provide those as well as flat screen tvs and a full range of UK tv channels. Those improvements are in the planning stage but will take time and when completed will be notified on our website (www.colbdorado.net). We are pleased you found the family management team were able to assist you when you needed help, sadly not enough to satisfy you though and perhaps the 5 star accommodation you are accustomed to is a better prospect for future visits to Marmaris.

Best Regards

Our first holiday together and to Turkey and we are a bit disappointed with the experience we had at the hotel... Having arrived at 01.00 we were given our room key and basically that was it, no mention of when meals were or where the room was, not even offered a drink or any food after such a long journey. Oh was stung for £15 for safety box... When we got to the room this was pleasant enough (the beds are rock hard ) and was cleaned on a daily basis but nowhere to make yourself a drink. So from 10:30 pm until 08:00 am there is nowhere you can get a drink for free at the AI hotel not even water.
The food was not of a great standard at all. It always seemed to be the same thing day after day, It would also help a little if the food was labelled so people knew what they were eating ( mainly the meat dishes and a few of the salads). The cups available for your hot drinks were so small assuming that you could find a cup that is, if not a glass it was...
A few of the staff seemed friendly ( whether you were male or female), namely Mohammed and Mehmet and of course the owner.
The hotel was in a good location for the beach and for a walk around Marmaris itself, was never told about the free bus service to Icemler so maybe they can correct this when people arrive so they know it's available.
I understand that the AI price is cheap and that maybe we expected a bit more from it, again was right at the end of the season so maybe this is why it was like it was, but to be honest start middle or end should all be of the same standard. Food may have been cheap to buy elsewhere but you pay for the AI so shouldn't have to pay elsewhere. Was told of a few places to eat which we did Apex, stay away from good hosts bad food.. Summer Breeze just great all round would recommend.
So all in all nice place but hotel let it down....

Dear Neil P,

Thanks for your review. Firstly our All Inclusive concept runs on a 24 hour basis (If you arrive at 1AM your All Inclusive entitlement runs from the following day until 10:30PM on the evening of your departure). Guests who arrive after 10:30PM have to purchase food and drinks and those are available at reasonable prices from our bar or reception. This is normal for all 3 star hotels in Turkey as is the small fee payable for the use of the room safe. The investment of £15 to secure important documents, cash and small valuables is good value and often a holiday insurance requirement which we advise guests to take. We have a detailed guest information sheet which explains meal times, facilities, extra services and medical arrangements and we are concerned to learn that you were not provided with this at check-in. Our food selection has been commended by some on here but there is always room for improvement and we will strive to offer a better selection for next season. We do normally label foods at the buffet so guests know what is being served so this is something we will investigate as a result of your comments. Glad to hear that our staff were friendly and that your room was clean and comfortable. We are also happy to learn you were made aware of our popular free shuttle bus service to our private Icmeler beach facility. Club Dorado does not try to be ‘cheap’ but we are a 3 star hotel with a limited budget per guest offering an all-inclusive concept that provides good value for money for thousands of satisfied guests every year. We have noted your comments and will work hard to improve the holiday experience for visitors in 2013.

Best Regards

I have travelled the world over and stayed in many hotels that cater for various budget requirements and the Club Dorado is by far the WORST experience I have ever had the misfortune to suffer.

To kick this off I will say the rooms are OK and were clean, but this is where the positives end. The staff (all male) are a HORRIFC bunch of rude PERVERTS. Being a male it was not unusual to order a drink at the bar and then for the barman to walk off without doing anything or to be totally IGNORED! They also let young girls (tourists) work behind the bar. The food is AWFUL and on the whole INEDIBLE. We were All Inclusive but after the first meal there we ate out every meal for the rest of the week!! The tour rep is a CON MAN so don’t be bought in with trips on arrival, he will no doubt pounce on you straight away! There is no sun on the pool area for the majority of the day which is a bit of a minus for a sun holiday! The SMELL of the toilet on the downstairs level was FOUL and wafted through the eating/drinking area on a regular occasion which was not very pleasant!

Overall I would advise anyone AGAINST staying at the Club Dorado, especially if you are travelling with young girls! It really will spoil your holiday and there are many nicer hotels in Marmaris than this dump!

Dear Nick S,

what can we say? Your review is completely at odds with many others from guests who stayed with us during that period. Our food satisfies most guests tastes and is definitely not ‘inedible’ as many previous reviews confirm. Sun exposure in October at the hotel has been addressed in previous responses and a free courtesy bus is provided to a private beach for those who want to sunbathe all day. It sounds like one instance of lack of attention at the bar has resulted in some very vicious review comments. Comments and labelling of staff by a male who did not experience harassment is highly questionable and we have no record of any complaint made about the accusations in this review, had there been we would have investigated and taken appropriate action. The hotel does not have anything to do with the tour operator representative or the tours they offer their customers. Overall we were very disappointed to read your review as there could have been some solutions which we could have provided to make your stay more of a positive experience had we had knowledge of your discontent during the period of your visit.

well got to club Dorado and thought great location as been that area before. Rooms very clean and nice very spacious plus balcony. Cleaners worked hard allday and place very clean. Food very basic been to turkey few times and understand that the hotel doesnt get much money for us to stay but felt more of a selection would of been nice as other 3 stars i have stayed in did have more of a selection plus pancakes and toasties but nothing like that here. We did go late in the season and maybe its better during main season time. 2 barstaff marmet and mehmet was fantastic always had a chat and a smile for us. marmet even gave us some of his mums homemade cooking what can i say fantastic cook and wow. Think that some things could be better like there are 2 bars which one staff member had to keep running to each one to serve would be better all at one bar really and having small bar for coffee cakes and snacks. just a suggestion and what i have seen in most hotels there.whoever makes the cakes there they were lovely like being at home :-). pool was ok always clean. overall this hotel is ok but i have stayed in better for the same money. There were a few staff there that made rude comments and walked around with faces like thunder maybe it is end of season and people are tired but my husband was also tired and worked hard to pay for this holiday.wont be returning to club dorado as feel that this hotel is ok but found our stay boring and glad we made some friends there as dont know what we would of done.

Dear witchypooo,

Thanks for your review and your praise of our location, cleaning, pool and room standard. As has been stated in previous responses we are reviewing our menu for next season and hope guests will be pleased with the improvements we have planned. It’s helpful reading feedback on Trip Advisor and we take all suggestions seriously. We are pleased to learn you made friends with our staff and enjoyed some of their authentic Turkish home cooking. Your stay was almost at the end of our season and sadly many of the entertainers return to education at the end of September so our normal nightly programme of shows is more limited in October. This is something we will try to address for 2013 along with improvements to customer service through a new training programme before the start of the new season. We hope you will come back and see what improvements we make next year.

This hotel is one of the best I have stayed in. I have been to marmaris 16 times and stayed in quit a few all inclusive hotels until I came across the dorado and have stayed there ever since. I have always found it clean and comfortable and very friendly staff and management. I have also seen this hotel improve over the past 3 years I have had the pleasure to stay there. The rooms are cleaned on a daily basis with clean towels every day, and beds changed every second day.
We are already looking to book for next year and I hope the plans they have for the coming year do materialise as it is all good for the hotels futchure,so keep up the good work ibrahim and Sarah I certainly will be returning again. X
