Stayed in the Marbella in mid September but only just got around to writing a review. Firstly i must say that me and my husband have been to Turkey many times to different resorts and one of the few places we hadn't yet been to was Marmaris, and being known as the Blackpool of Turkey i was a little worried. The hotel is situated in a good spot on the promenade away from any noise from bars. It takes about half an hour to walk along the promenade into Marmaris Marina area and about an hour in the other direction to Icmeler, which i must say was a lovely scenic walk with bars dotted along the seafront with stunning views.
The hotel itself is really lovely and very chic having been recently refurbished. We had a sea view room which was spotless with nice balcony furniture (not plastic). The bathroom had a shower big enough for 2 with a large ceiling shower head...absolutely lovely! The wardrobe didn't have a full length area to hang dresses but this didn't bother me too much. The pool is small but does the job and nobody put their towels on the sunbeds at the crack of dawn!! and as long as you were at the pool before about 11am there was always sunbeds free. The hotel is very adult, i only saw 1 toddler (maybe it was the time of year) or perhaps because there are no kids facilities, and the pool doesnt have a shallow end. Perfect for me as i like peace and quiet on holiday and also being able to drink out of a glass around the pool was lovely. The beaches in Marmaris are very narrow with gravel for sand so if you like to go in the sea invest in a pair of sea shoes.
We were half board and the food was excellent, especially breakfast. They even had sea bass freshly cooked on request at no extra charge and bought to the table.
The Marbella is by far the most attractive hotel in Marmaris so if you want a pretty much adult only hotel you can't go wrong;)

Room Tip: Sea view is a must.

Transfer from Dalaman takes approximately 1hour 40mins, Our transfer coach from the airport stopped at a small coach park where you have to get in a taxi to the hotel as the access road is a little on the small side for a coach. It was no big deal. Ok firstly the hotel. Very nice indeed, very clean, brand new decor and very well presented. Rooms are reasonable size with nice shower it's one of those huge shower heads that rains down on you encapsulating your whole body. There is a small flat screen tv in the room BBC world news and TNT movies are in English. You also have a small safe and mini bar for an extra fee. Balcony sea view have small table and a couple of chairs great views and ample size. The actual hotel is a well presented neat unit comprising of four floors with reception and restaurant. Other facilities are available in the sister hotel (the sunrise) down the road. The restaurant is great with a large choice of freshly prepared food for both breakfast and dinner. In The evening it's great to dress up and dine outside overlooking the pool and sea. The hotel is on the sea front and you have access to free sunbeds. Staff.. Ok staff at the hotel are really good and hard working they work really long hours and always seen to give 110%. There are a couple of staff members however who I feel strongly let the team down. There is the restaurant manager a tall grey haired chap who I never once saw crack a smile he takes your meal ticket as you walk in, has a mooch about the restaurant then come half 8 he plates himself a dinner up n starts eating. He never once introduced himself Infact I walked past him the first night due to the fact he was in a pair of suit trousers and a floral shirt, all staff are in uniform and look smart but he clearly let's the team down in both dress and personality. The 2 ladies behind the reception could also do with cheering up, we were never greeted with a smile and always felt a bit awkward on approaching the counter as they were always eating a meal. The only other negatives we found were that while eating our evening meal the hotel allow smokers to spark up at the tables outside but let me tell you the smoke is everywhere and is horrible for a non smoker. It was mainly the eastern Europeans smoking which is probably the norm to them but I guess if you are from England like we are we have a no smoking policy in restaurants. Seriously though just for the couple of hours at meal time it would have been lovely to have a nice meal without my eyes squinting with all the smoke. The other thing is be prepared to be harassed when venturing off out for a romantic peaceful stroll after dinner. It ain't Gunna happen. Not in turkey. I can almost guarantee there is a turkish man aged
between 18-30, spiked or slicked back hair every 20meters spouting the same old crap to entice you in to his bar or restaurant. To be honest with you the tourists are sick of it and you can see couples dodging ducking and diving their way around the streets like they, are in some covert operation. Ok they are my only gripes. To finish on a positive. lovely hotel. Lovely location.

HOTEL MARBELLA

LOCATION: Uzunyali Siteler Mevkii, Marmaris 48700, Turkey
marbellamrm@yahoo.com.tr
The Hotel Marbella is situated in the Siteler area of Marmaris. It is next to the beach, separated from it only by the boulevard which runs between Marmaris and Icmeler. Next door is the Maritim Hotel Grand Azure and two doors away is its sister hotel the Sunrise. The hotel is reached along about 200 metres of a small, cobbled street which becomes narrower about half way along. The last section can be negotiated by taxis and the smaller (12 seater) coaches. This “lane” slopes down towards the hotel but the gradient is shallow and seems to cause little or no problems to people on foot. It is reasonably easy to push a wheelchair up to the main road from the hotel.
NOTE: If you look at this hotel on Google Earth (2008) the pool is shown as being on the side of the hotel away from the sea. However, it has been moved to the “sea” side of the hotel and there is now a seating area under the trees where the old pool used to be. There is only one pool, which is small but adequate for “cooling off” and lazing about!
STYLE: 3* This hotel has one lift which is more than adequate for this size of hotel.
SET MEALS: The hotel is bookable either B&B or H/B. These meals are buffet style and can be taken inside or outside, either under the trees to the front of the hotel or on the terrace with its spectacular sea views.
For those not on H/B there is an À la carte restaurant serving international cuisine. Lunches can also be taken here or around the pool or on the beach.
DATE OF VISIT: 29/08/11 – 12/09/11
THE HOTEL: The hotel is beautifully designed and laid out. It was originally a single rectangular building, offset by about a 15 degree angle from the sea. Later a central “tower” and another rectangular section of rooms was added. The reception and lobby area is quite large with several tables and chairs. The decoration is simple but at the same time sophisticated with pale green and white being the basic colours. There are several interesting, white statuettes and flower bowls with attractive arrangements of artificial flowers. The furniture is modern but comfortable.
THE ROOMS: The rooms are very attractively decorated and laid out. They are a little small but adequate for two people. Three adults might feel the pinch a little. Ours had a single and a ¾ size double. The walls are white but with a single large painting of a flower which brings colour to the rooms. The furniture is modern and well-designed artistically. However, storage space is a little limited. This could have been improved had the dressing table and bed side tables been designed with drawers! The built in wardrobe has two doors above and one door and three drawers below. The top section is split, 2/3 being hanging space and 1/3 with three shelves. The hanging space contains 15 sliding hangers and is deep enough for shirts, blouses, trousers and jackets to hang freely. Long dresses would have to be folded double on the hangers. The shelves are quite large but the bottom one is mostly taken up by the room safe. This is rented on a daily basis @ £1 per day. It is digital, simple to use and you set your own PIN code. The three drawers are large and useful. The lower door conceals the fridge. Note: try to leave this door ajar so that the fridge can “breathe” and work properly. If the door is closed the cupboard heats up and the fridge will not stay as cold as it should. This fridge is the “mini-bar” type with no freezer compartment. It is stocked with drinks for purchase from the hotel but there is still adequate space for a carton of milk and a couple of large bottles of water.
The shower room is excellent. There is an attractive modern basin and toilet pedestal. The basin is fitted with an integral plug. The shower its self is large and with sliding doors to make access “walk in”. There is an abundance of very hot water, at any time of day, which comes out in a deluge both from above or from a hand held spray if preferred. The sliding glass door to the shower room is fitted with an opaque glass panel. There is a similar glass panel between the shower and the bedroom. This is also opaque and is painted with an attractive scene of bulrushes. The shower room is quite large and we felt that some space could have been saved here and used to make the bedroom a little larger.
The air conditioning is central but easily adjusted in the room. On our booking this was included in the price and is certainly a necessity during the hotter months.
NOTE: Try to avoid rooms on the top (4th) floor. Although they have the same size floor plan as the other levels, they are under the roof and hence have a sloping ceiling that made us feel a little claustrophobic. We asked to move when we were given one of these rooms and were given a room on the 2nd floor the next morning.
BONUSES: Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in each room.
Because the hotel has a modern sewerage system, used tissue can be flushed away and does NOT have to be put in the bin.
STAFF: The staff are well trained and professional. There were a couple of younger members whilst we there who were working during their educational holidays. Even these youngsters knew their job and were very well trained. All of the staff were smiling and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay the best holiday we have ever had. I know that hotel staff are trained to help the guests and many seem to do this in the expectation of reward. However the Marbella staff did seem to be genuinely interested in their jobs and in making their guests welcome.
RECEPTION: The team, led by the front of house/reservation manageress Ilknur consist of one female, Natalie, and three male receptionists, Besher, Kemal and ? who provide a full 24 hour service. Vedat the porter seemed to be constantly on hand to lend assistance whenever it was needed.
BUFFET: For breakfast, on the egg counter was Givan who’s smile was ever present and lighted up the start to our day. The food and beverage manager, Mr. Halil, who at first seems a little dour, is far from it once you take the trouble to speak to him. He runs his team well and is ably assisted by his waiters Ferdi, Bayram and Ali. As we were on B&B basis I can only mention these. We did not eat in the buffet of an evening.
FOOD: BREAKFAST: Fried eggs and omelettes with various fillings can be cooked to order by Givan who will expertly make them to your personal tastes. Next to the egg station is a “hot” table with scrambled eggs, sausages of the frankfurter style, which were presented in a different way each day, fresh mushrooms, baked beans, fried tomato slices, sometimes topped with grilled cheese, hard boiled eggs and pancakes. One pan varied each day and could contain fried potatoes or various forms of savoury pastries. Next to this a large cauldron contained hot porridge. Moving on from here are two baskets of various loaves of local breads. These are next to a chopping board and bread saw so that you can cut this bread to a thickness that suits you.
There is then a double flat toaster for making toasted sandwiches and a rotary toaster for single slices. Baskets are filled with slices of a “square” English style bread for the toaster and various rolls and sweet cakes. Two warming dishes contain croissants and other pastry delights.
There are then three buffet tables groaning under the weight of fresh fruits, salad items, olives, cereals, dried fruits, nuts and seeds, ten or more bowls of various jams, chocolate and savoury spreads, cold meats and cheeses. One morning I counted ten different cheeses! Basically there was something for everyone and anyone who says that they could not find anything to suit them must have some very strange tastes!
BAR: The only bar is by the pool. It is circular with a wooden roof. The well trained and friendly bar staff, led by Errol are always smiling and eager to please. Apart from the beer, spirits and excellent cocktails there is a machine that makes good, tasty coffee. Orders for snack type meals can be taken and served here. There is a good choice of such things as pizzas and pastas.
ENTERTAINMENT We had been told that there was no entertainment at the hotel. This was not correct. On most nights there was music provided, either in the pool bar area or in the outside restaurant. This was either a solo artist with guitar or electric organ or a Turkish quartet. The quality of the acts varied greatly with the quartet being by far the best.
OWNER: We did not meet the owner but proof of his good taste in décor and staff was everywhere. We were told the he is an ex-Marmaris Mayor.
AMBIANCE: Most of all the hotel is warm, welcoming and comfortable. We have been lucky in staying in some very good (5*) hotels over the years but the Marbella takes some beating. We have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful hotel and its staff to any discerning traveller and will most certainly be returning.
Peter & Jean. :o)

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms on 4th floor.
