“Really nice if you don't expect too much”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2010

OK, first of all, let's get this straight - Tropical (or Tropikal as they sometimes write it) Hotel is officially a 4 star hotel. However, it's a little bit far-fetched. In reality, this is a 3 star hotel, and a good one at that. So, if you (and you should) think of it as a nice 3 star hotel you won't be disappointed at all.

We were there in the beginning of September and, if you haven't been in Turkey before, that's the best period to visit. Water is warm and, although it's still hot (30-37C) it's quite enjoyable because it's not humid. We were told that they had few really hot weeks prior to that (and I'm talking really hot, as in 45-47C) so be aware that July/August can be that way.

Hotel location is great, right on a beach and not in noisy downtown but still close enough so you can even walk to it (it's 4-5km, so very frequent dolmuşes are recommended if you are not much of a hiker). Hotel beach is ok, but it's gravel and small pebble and not sand which I prefer so it's a minus from me. Also, parasols/sunshades are quite small so have in mind that you will have to move around a lot if you want to avoid the sun. On a plus side, hotel bar is so close you can easily bring drinks and snacks to the beach.
They also have a pool of you are, for some inexplicable reason, into that.

Hotel is quiet, clean and nice but not very luxurious and that's ok because you are in Marmaris and not Hawaii and remember, it's a 3 star hotel. Rooms are also kept very clean and the sea view is great.
Important note: air conditioning is centralized and intermittent so you will have periods of warm to hot room. In all fairness, they tried to schedule those breaks presuming that you are out of room during them but still, it's a really bad and stupid idea and a big minus. Be smart and remove the key from a key card which you will leave in room unit. That way you will at least somewhat prolong the cooling although AC is quite weak.
Mini bar is just a tad below room temperature, and that should be fixed. Also, I've heard rumors that you should stay away from hairdryers as they tend to explode. No, really. Luckily, we had no such problems.
Beds are quite hard but I prefer that so no problem. You might feel different about that.

Staff is really super polite and they always try to be helpful and at your service. Nothing is too difficult for them and that should be commended. Speaking foreign languages (English, for example) is not their forte so be aware of that - most of the time they will just smile and nod a lot. You will have better luck at reception desk.

Food was good (lots of vegetables, salads and fruits) and varied (for a 3 star hotel that is; it is a bit repetitive - if you like pizza or french fries you will hate it by the end of the holiday, it's served every day. Sadly, you cannot say that about fish which was rare.) although it's Mediterranean-based, so there's not much bacon, sausages, beans and roasted meat but if you want eat that at 35C then... well, you will have to eat outside.

Entertainment is virtually non-existent and that's a really big plus from me although I'm aware there is a considerable number of people who will find the lack of animation unacceptable. Same thing goes for kids - you are on your own. However, I'm really thankful for not having to listen to drunken tourists trying to sing karaoke and dance around like demented bears. You can find plenty of pubs and bars for that.
So, hotel is quiet. No entertainment.

There is free WiFi internet (and some sort of internet cafe) but wireless is only available in hotel lobby and not in the rooms. That's a big minus in my book as for a few days we had to finish some business things and send some e-mails and it's kind of pain when you have to go to the lobby every time to do that.

So, what do we have here? Great location, clean rooms, beautiful water, good food, nice staff, interesting town. Sounds great and it really is. Sure, there are a few drawbacks and a few serious flaws but if you are aware of them and try to fix them beforehand, with just a bit of luck you can have a very pleasant stay.

Actually I've been there twice, once in september 2007 and second time in october 2009 and we had a great time...

The hotel is clean, no problem in the bathroom or with the sheets, well positioned, with most of the rooms, if not all of them, with seaview...
Staff very frendly, speaking english, german and rushian... and well trained... everything by the book.
The pool is not that large, but is clean and, if you're alone, rather boooooring. go there with some friends and you'll like it.
The food is the best (i'm from romania, if you're a briton you might disagree... but not too much), plenty of vegetables, cakes, meat (chicken, pork, beef, fish), all fresh and very good...

we came to this hotel in a party of 7(4 adults 2 young children) we found that the hotel wasnt all it seemed to be reviewed at in the brouchure. one of the main key points when we booked our holiday was that it said in the brochure it had occasional entertainment. there was no entertainment at all not even background music we found out while there that they had lost their licence six weeks earlier, i have looked and i can tell you that they are still advertising in the april to october 2011 summer brochure that it still has occasional entertainment i would double check this to avoid disappointment and further expense. The air con did not work properly it was reported several times and nothing was done about it,fire exits were blocked with bedding and toilet rolls, majority of gym eqiupment was not fit for use, sockets not securly fitted to the walls, damp walls due to bad grouting. And during the whole 2 weeks we did not see the pool cleaned. In relation to the pool 4 people out of our party of 7 (2 of them being children) all developed ear infections after futher swab tests from the hospital it has been detected that it is an infection called PSUEDONONAS AERGINOSA which we have been told it is 99% certain to have been contracted from the pool. All in all our holiday was an enjoyable one but to find that enjoyment we had to go elsewhere which meant more expense for us which i think is unacceptable seen as the cost of our holiday was in excess of £6000. this hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel in my opinion it meets a 2 star

the service is good, had a few problems with the hairdryer in the bathroom, which was sorted out eventually, but if i was you, dont touch it, very dangerous, burnt my childs friends arm and t-shirt, when he stood next to it, apart from that the room was fine, air con, not much cop, beds were quite hard, so i couldnt sleep too good, but it was mostly quiet at night.

The location is nice and its quiet, ok if you want a quiet relaxing holiday, not really in my opinion for people who want lots of action packed days, you have to travel abit away from the hotel for that, but it has everything you need, supermarket and chemist, over the road, so that was handy, beware of all inclusive, its not, have to pay for ice creams, and coffee is only normal filtered, not latte's, and not many alcohol drinks are included. Also it finishes at 11pm so after that you have to pay for it.

My best part of the holiday was the trips we went on 2 boat trips, and the water park for the kids, which they enjoyed, but expensive to eat and drink there and you cant take in food and drink with you.

The worst thing was the fact there was absolutely no entertainment in the hotel, day or night, at all, which i found disappointing, you have to go out for that, which obviously adds cost to you holiday.

All in all, I would recommend Turkey its a lovely country, very pretty, and friendly people, very hot, in the summer, I would recommend the hotel to people who only want a quiet holiday, not for people who want more than that.

Just got back from a 2 week stay at the Tropikal and we were very disapointed. First of all the room we were 1st given just about had a seaview and the bathroom was shocking!! the bath was yellow and had been painted to cover it and obviously it was all peeling away, very unacceptable for a 4*, when we complained to the reception staff they were rude, disinterested and most unhelpfull, we eventually got moved to a new room which was slightly better, but the air con was soo noisy and not really worth having as it was so ineffective. We did get told by Steve the rep, that the bathrooms were due to be refurbished over the winter, lets hope so!
On a brighter note the hotel is in a fantastic position, right on the beach and between Icemilar and marmaris, with lots of bars to choose from and all the other members of staff are so friendly and helpful

we ended up here after reading reviews of other hotels in the marmaris region decided this was the one to go for. the transfer is about 1 1/2 hours to marmaris but this hotel is about 2 miles out side of marmaris so you will be one of the last to be dropped off and probably another 20 mins

the hotel is friendly, clean, near the breach, shops and restaurants/pubs. the food is good, different every night, and something for every one as there are some basis foods for the kids, and plenty of snacks. the drinks in the all inclusive are the local ones and are drinkable, (we have been on an AI in egypt and the local drinks were terrible). the soft drinks are good also. you get a bottle of water every day in your mini fridge (not the coldest but does the job) but keep the bottle to fill up at the water coolers, as you only get cups of water otherwise.

the beach is right next to the hotel, and after walking along the beach front we realised that there are not to many hotels this close to the beach. it is clean, tidy and manned daily by staff. you do have to pay 3 TL if you want a mattress for the sun-bed. the beach is stone/shell and a pair of water shoes are recommended.

the gym is not worth going to and get a Turkish bath out side the hotel as it is cheaper and a great couple of hours away. We had a night flight and booked a day away to dalaman which is well worth in and food, transport and accommodation is included. Otherwise your check out time is 12 noon or you can pay to stay till 6pm and still use the pool and shower in the gym. But depending on the time of your pick up (ours was 12 midnight) is worth thinking about the day trip as it is a good day out.
