Reviewed 30 September 2013

.Just returned from 10 days all inclusive at the Golden Rock and we will now offer what we consider to be a fair and balanced review. Recognising that we all have personal preferences which can make or break a holiday we will concentrate on major issues only. The hotel is new and bright, generally well presented, and kept clean throughout. The bedroom was well appointed and fully adequate although the fact that all electricity goes off when you leave the room was a surprise as we have never seen this before.
We chose a street view room as we are lucky enough to have a sea view at home for the rest of the year but we must point out that these rooms are subject to quite a bit of noise from local bars. The high volume noise finishes at midnight and it never bothered us but if you are sensitive to noise then you should book a different side of the hotel.
On the days we went poolside we went down about 10ish and never had any problem getting a bed. It may look busy at first, but there plenty of spare beds stacked aside at each end of the pool.
The only issue where we had a big problem was with the food and the dining room. The standard of food was well short of what we would expect in this standard of hotel. Suffice to say that by the fifth day we went out to eat at night.Do not go early for dinner or you will be engulfed in a deluge of greed and non existent table manners.Go late and witness a scene of devastation after the ******** have had their fill. Not really the fault of the hotel but the staff at times just cannot cope.
A quick summary. Improve the food and dining room management and this could be a very good hotel.

Room Tip: Better not to select a street view room.

Had 10 days at this hotel 16/9-26/9. Overall really enjoyed it, hotel gorgeous with all furniture being best of quality, good quality of food, great air conditioning and amazing views if you had a pool/sea view which we paid £5 each per night extra but worth it to waken up to the view.
Things they need to change: dining room is disorganised and understaffed- in a 5 star you would expect to be shown to a table set ready for you meal but you have to find your own table which may not have cutlery and you need to wait until the waiter brings you cutlery and let me tell you these guys are running around but with too many tables to attend to. We had to get our drinks most nights as no offer for waiter to get them for you.
Entertainment at night was very poor the guys/girl are lovely but obviously are not encouraged or have the tools to provide any form of entertainment. A mrs & mrs show, music competition, bingo or belly dancing competition which was a laugh but by no means 5 star entertainment I've done 4 star in Turkey and had classy dance shows provided by the entertainment team- I get the idea the management don't want you to stay on site as this means you are drinking.
I would return to the Siteler area again as it was ideally situated but would try one of the other 5 star hotels.

Room Tip: Pool/sea view worth the extra

just came back from 2 weeks at the golden rock 11.9.13 -26.9.13.
this hotel is not all its cracked up to be. this is mine and my husbands 6th time in Marmaris, and this hotel looks a lot better than it acutually is, don't get me wrong it was clean and modern but had nothing going for it, got there late about 2 am, was the only couple off the transfer so check in was really quick. we got to our room 444 it was a nice big room over looking the pool and with sea view which we paid extra for. but concidering it was only built last year there was wall paper hanging off the walls, the air con was a con it was on the wrong wall for a start every time u opened the either door it went off. u only get 1 key card so every time u leave your room the electric goes off in the whole of your room including your mini fridge which is no good, u go it to a red hot room and warm water in your fridge (which you have to buy your self you only get 2 bottles on your 1st day. the beds were rock hard, we kept waking up in the nite stiff and aching the patio door doesn't have a lock. the staff couldn't be bothered and favoured the Russians even tho they don't tip like we do. the entertainment was rubbish they did the same thing in the day every day, water polo, belly dancing and darts in the day, if you say you don't want to play they tut at you and call you lazy which is really rude. (im on holiday if I don't want 2 saft games I don't want 2 be abused for it) you have 2 get up the crack of dawn for a sun bed. the pool slides were off more than they were on. the food in the buffet was a joke, same thing different day, and what was used at lunch was used for dinner and vice versa, I even found a big long hair in the one meal that I did try. the snack bar had chicken kebab about 3 times in 2 weeks, the rest of the time it was rubber chips, under cooked grilled chicken some kind of sausage in sauce, fruit and salad which is left uncoverd for the flys to get on it. the alacart was a joke as well, the steak was full of fat, and you were rushed, just drinks from the all inc bar no wine list or imported drinks (which I was more than willing to pay for which is usually expected at good alacart. drinks finished at 12 in lobby bar 11.30 pool bar and when they finish they finish no favours even if you have tipped all week. the staff where grumpy. the only thing this hotel has going for it is the location. if you want a decent hotel stay at ideal prime which is right next door. a bigger hotel a lot more going on the food stacks better more drink options. far better hotel with the same location. we tried the golden rock because it was new, but we should of stuck to what we new lol. overall this hotel looks smart but as got a long way to go before its 5*. 6 hotels ive stayed in marmaris and only 1 has been worse than this. WILL NEVER GO BACK.

Room Tip: if you want a room with a good view room 444 is a big room on the corner of the building which you g...

A great beach hotel. Excellent quality rooms, good food and with an all-inclusive package you can't go wrong for drinks and snacks. The entertainment team are great fun and the rest of the staff are helpful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Just returned from stay in Golden Rock. Hotel staff rude and unhelpful other than poolbar male staff members who were very nice.
Only one keycard per room and due to this rooms not secure at anytime as anyone can ask any staff member to access a room without any questions being asked other than "WHERE IS YOUR KEY".
If your late arrival no snacks or drinks hot/cold available.
Entertainment appalling or should even say lack of it.
Guest relations female staff member not intetested in anything you have to complain about nor do you get any feed back from her when you have complained.
If you leave any monies on dressing table, as our friend did the cleaners WILL assume its for them no matter if it's 1Lira or a thousand Lira as informed by the guest relations female staff member when a cleaner removed money from dressing table in room.
Coca Cola and Milk is kept under guard behind bar in restaurant and can only be accessed by asking staff for a drink. Dining room staff slow, used dinner plates/cutlery/glasses left of on tables everywhere.
Food choice poor and repetative, salads nice. Pool bar food is cold and poor choice, same food every day.
At lunch time I asked for sachet of butter for a bread roll and was told they were finished and that I could have one at dinner time and only due to me showing how displeased i was the staff member returned and restocked the butter tray.
On day of departure we kept our room on at a cost of 90Lira to discover the air conditioning and phone had both been switched off.
Fridge is also disconnected at the back requires plugged in.
Would NOT return.

Good location on the beach front. Our room was upgraded to a sea view (room 534) which was fantastic but it did smell of damp and there was a large stain on the ceiling as if a leak had occurred. I like a very firm mattress but the beds at Golden Rock were uncomfortably hard. Air conditioning was noisy & was set at a minimum 18 degrees which I find too warm, especially as you cannot have the balcony/window open if you want the air con to operate. Rooms cleaned daily but lack of toiletries unless you asked for them. Hotel is only 2 years old so is very modern & seemed well maintained but you soon notice that all public areas (there is a lot of glass, mirrors, chrome & black granite) have lost their sparkle and need a good wash & polish rather than a quick wipe. Lifts are glass, chrome & black marble, balconies are glass and all are in need of a good wash & polish as they were visibly smeared & grubby.
Food was ok as I am accustomed to Turkish food having lived & worked in Turkey for several years. I always found something to eat and the salads were good, but main courses & meat dishes slightly limited in choice. They didn't always look appetising but were quite tasty when you tried them so I can understand why some English visitors are not happy with the food. Ice cream was not available although we thought it was advertised by Jet2 as included in the All Inclusive deal. Crockery was chipped which always puts me off.
The staff spoke good English and were professional and helpful. The spa/hamam staff were frosty with us when we refused to have a massage so we just ignored them. The entertainment at the hotel was basic and the loud music (Madonna and all the old dance hits) played by the poolside each day was too much & all we wanted was it to be turned down or turned off!
Decent enough hotel but it will be interesting to see how long they manage to keep up the standard to which it aspires. Sorry to be so critical but I prefer to tell it as it is.

Room Tip: any room with a sea view will be fabulous
