“Good stay but improvements needed!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2012

We stayed at Emre Beach from the 17th sept - 1st oct. Upon our late night arrival we were greeted at the reception and taken to our room very quickly.
We were amazed with our room (2608), top floor, sea view, panoramic view and a jacuzzi bath!! My partner emailed the hotel 2 weeks prior to our holiday to ask for this and at no extra cost we were happily surprised to get it when we arrived. Our room was always kept spotless with regular changes of towels and bedding, although dust in places it shouldn't of been. We couldn't say one bad word about our maid, but that couldnt be said for some of the other maids. They were very rude and spoke in their language making it obvious that they were clearly talking about you which made us feel very uncomfortable.
One thing we couldnt stand about our room was the smell out on the balcony, I dont know where it came from but we couldnt leave our balcony door open for long or tolerate sitting out there most days. Why have an amazing view if you can only view it from behind closed doors? This became a problem when the maid had finished cleaning the room she would always leave the balcony door open and once we came back to the room it really smelt.
The aircon was a godsend but sometimes did kick up the mystery balcony smell.

Although we was aware of the all inclusive choice of drinks, it became apparent that it was more hassel to ask for something that cost as the staff didn't have the time of day to serve you normally let alone go through the process of paying for it with the queues as long as they were!
This seems a problem for everyone that stays at this hotel. There would always be one bartender serving and most of the time another standing behind the bar doing nothing when the queue was going down the stairs! Most of the time this would put us off of going back up and would resort to us leaving the hotel and going down the strip on the beach to find somewhere else to drink for the night. The drinks werent strong but depending on what bartender was serving, you could always ask for a double.
Being a woman I did find that all waiters and bartenders were very leary and i did feel uncomfortable alot of the time, my partner would go up for drinks most of the time as he didnt like the way they looked at girls. This became a problem when my partner was queing for drinks in the restaurant at dinner in a long line, when all of a sudden a woman walked past everyone straight to the front and got served straight away. The bartender we found did this most and we had most trouble with was called Turgay.

Reception is meant to be a place to go with any problems and for help but we found they were rude and unapproachable. One morning we went to ask about extending our stay in our room on our departure day as we werent being picked up until 10pm and had to be out of the room by 12 lunch time, was told that they couldnt tell us that day (thursday) but to come back sunday (the day before we leave). After going back sunday and seeing the same receptionist, we was told that we clearly did not listen as she said that I had to come back monday not sunday, which was not what she had said at all. Which is pointless as the only reason we wanted to stay in the room longer was so we didnt have to pack and could shower later. There were a few other instances that they were rude and unhelpful but generally they just stood there and looked you up and down as you walked past making us feel very uncomfortable.

The food was what you can expect from an all inclusive..I had read reviews saying it was repetitive and its going to be when your staying for 2 weeks which is why we decided to eat out a few times. I can highly recommend Natalies restaurant which is in the marina which is only around £5 in a taxi to get to, they do huge portions for a great price. Also, next door at the three brothers do a lovely english fry up, although their understanding of english isn't great so getting across we didnt want mushrooms or tomatoes but an extra sausage seemed like a major issue for them!! At dinner time it was hard to get a table if you hadnt got down there byt 7:30pm, and made harder to get one because the waiters would be saving tables for guests (mostly females) and just telling you to find another.

We only sat round the pool once or twice as there wasnt much sun throughout the day at all, we found the beach to be a much better place to go. Although we did have to get up early to put towels down, we didn't mind but you'd have to get up at about 5am to get on the pier!!
The beachboy did tidy up but seemed to linger around alot which made us feel uncomfortable leaving our sunbeds and possessions to go into the sea.

Our rep was Jay and of what we saw of him (which was next to nothing) he was very unhelpful. After informing us on our welcome talk that we needed to go to him 5 days before our departure if we wanted to book seats on the flight home, we did this on the thursday (5days before) but he told us we were too late. Don't know how you work that one out? The Thomas Cook rep Sarah, was there everyday and bent over backwards to help her guests from what we heard, whereas Jay gave the impression he couldn't be bothered.

There was basically no entertainment throughout the day, even though there is a schedule, half the activities didn't even happen. My partner waited for the water polo to start but it never did. All we ever saw was people playing darts and who wants to play darts when on holiday? Evening entertainment was ok but needed to last longer as it was dead by 10:30pm without even as much as music playing. Our hotels music was always so quiet even after asking for it to be louder.

On the hotels photo's it shows there is a place to sunbathe and chill out on orange and green pillows. In real life it looks NOTHING like this. They were stained, on decking that gives splinters and in the shade throughout the day, absolutely gross! (see my pictures)

The water sports were excellent and right on your door step. We went on jet ski's and had professional photos taken and put on a disc at a reasonable price.

Overall, it was a nice holiday but alot of improvements need to be made. Nothing drastic, but its the simple things that count!

Room Tip: Sea view room is a must. Panoramic sea view room even better!! Email prior to going!

Dear Lauren;

We would like to thank you for having written such a detailed review of Emre Beach Hotel. We would like to address some of the issues you have raised:

Housekeeping: We are sure sure the housekeepers were not talking about you. I know you can get the feeling when you are in a foreign country, but that's usually not the case. We are not sure where the smell in the balcony was coming from. You are the first guest who reported such a thing, and so we suspect it was coming from the condo next door?

Bar: In the peak hours, we always put an extra person at the bar to help with the queues. Besides, we have a two-drink-per-person policy in the peak hours. Therefore, we advise our guests not to be discouraged by the peak-hour queues; they move surprisingly fast.

Staff: We would like to assure you that our staff don't show preferential treatment to any guest, for any reason. We admit some may want to do so:), but we have department managers to ensure they don't. Maybe, the lady who walked up was already in the queue and had to leave for a minute to check on a friend. Similarly, our waiters cannot reserve tables at all; they were probably trying to clean the table or putting cutlery and you thought they were reserving it- since most of our waiters speak only basic English, such misunderstandings can happen...

Entertainment: You need a few people for water polo; if there are only a couple of people who'd like to play, we cannot arrange a game. As for the evening, many of our guests would like to chat at the terrace or by the pool, and that's why we finish the entertainment around 22.30- we are just trying to balance the preferences and tastes of our many guests.

Sincerely,

the location of this hotel is wonderful but everything else was saddly a let down.drinks were served in plastic glasses even in the evening when you were dressed for dinner.the all inclusive shorts were weak to say the least and the food was only ever luke warm. loved the turkish people and found an amazing bar called always not far from the hotel which made our holiday the staff were amazing and well woth going to for a fun night out.

Room Tip: ask for sea view room you will have the most amazing view.

Dear Ellie;

We serve regular glasses at dinner. We may run out of glasses for a short while (30 min or so); maybe that's when you were served plastic glasses.

I am not sure what "all-inclusive shorts" are; I am assuming you meant shots- a typo. If that was the case, please note that we use the best vodka, gin and brandy from Mey, which is owned by Diageo. As for the food, we have a food engineer who constantly checks the food temperature.

Arrived at 4am ,to be told by receptionist that our room didn't have any electric so would have to go to annexe across a busy road,needless to say we were not impressed,saw the manager,who said he would show us a "good room"ended up being overlooking waste ground near the busy road,needless to say we declined,after much discussion,and discovering our original room with no electric was actually a lie and that he admitted to being overbooked,he found us a better room overlooking pool/sea view.We later found this was a regular situation.The rooms are very nice,although clean towels twice a week is not good,no beach towels,had to ask on many occasions for soap,shampoo and toilet rolls,first time we have experienced this,not what you expect from a 4*.Food ,ok,not brilliant but could always find something to make a meal,would have liked freshly cooked omelettes at breakfast time,had to make do with ones been cooked for a while,gave them a miss after a few days.I fully understand the reason for having plastic cups/beakers for drinks around the pool/beach but not when you are sat in the bar,had to keep asking for glasses and actually had a heated discussion when was refused,a phone call from reception soon sorted it and had drinks in glasses from then on.Cant understand the logic in just one bar,one barman,felt sorry for them as under pressure.So many people said that it has gone downhill and not how it was last year,shame as it is in a lovely location,come on Emre sort yourselves out.One thing I was impressed with and that was our Thomas Cook rep ,Sarah,she was really nice to talk to and helped sort the situation with our room.Overall we had a lovely holiday,but that was due to meeting nice people and friends we knew, staying there,brilliant location and lots to see and do.Booked to go back next year but needless to say not at Emre Beach,have booked a 5* Hotel where I can expect and receive pampering/ attention .

Dear Madam;

We appreciate that you have taken the time to write such a detailed review of Emre Beach Hotel. We would like to address some of the issues you have raised.

Please note that we do have technical problems in rooms- if we were indeed overbooked, we would not be able to put you into a room with a great view.

We do actually have freshly-made omelettes at breakfast; they are outside- I am not sure why you missed them.

We do serve glasses at dinner, but we do run out of them occasionally for half an hour or so (while news ones are in the dishwasher)

Finally, please note that we do put an extra man at the bar at peak hours.

Not long arrived back from staying at Emre Beach Hotel for 11 days.
When we first arrived we were pleased with the welcome and our room was really nice, although not massive it was really clean and we were really pleased. Hotel also looked very nice and very clean.

But things seemed to go downhill after a few days: there was in situ 3 bars but only 1 was open except during dinner time then the restaurant bar was open during dinner also but only for a short time and it was all self service, there was no waiter service. This meant that if you were on the beach you had to walk across the narrow prom and through the outside restaurant and up two smallish flights of steps to get to the bar and then back all the way again.

There is 2 pools, although 1 was in the shade a lot of the time so the water was extremely cold and hardly used. There was a bar around the pools but only serving soft drinks in a machine, again self service.

The bar measures were very small and beer was served in hard plastic glasses but other drinks were served in thin plastic small cups which were not nice to drink from and if you asked for larger drinks you were refused and told to queue again for another!
The bar only had one barman serving so you can imagine the queues most of the time. There was one bar manager with long hair who was really rude and constantly annoying people by pushing past them and generally was rather unfriendly. In fact not all but most of the bar and restaurant staff were unfriendly and ignored you. You weren’t made to feel very welcome.

The furniture in the bar was tatty and broken and there was constantly 2 different sets of music playing at the time very loudly. Very annoying.

There was 3 lots of toilets that were used constantly by guests, all kept clean but constantly running out of toilet paper. I lost count the amount of times that i and others reported this.

We had to wait 2.5 days after our request to receive another pillow and when we ran out of soap in the toilet basin and asked for a fill up we were informed that only a small amount was given to each set of guests and once this ran out we had to purchase our own – very petty for a 4 star. Also no shower crème was available in the room.

The beach was very close to the front of the hotel but there was never enough sunbeds and people were getting annoyed constantly (remember the beach and restaurant and bar and all facilities were being shared by Emre beach and also Emre hotel). Emre beach section of the beach was never cleaned or raked and was full of cigarette ends but all the other hotels cleaned and raked their section of the beach constantly. One day i saw a sanitary towel on the beach! The beach is very stoney and not nice to walk on. There was only 2 days during our stay that the life saving ring was in situ (after the Manager put it there himself) but was not in situ the rest of the holiday. Some of the umbrellas were broken also. Again there was no beach bar you had to walk through the hotel to get drinks. There were no outside showers for pool or beach use apart from a foot shower on the edge of the beach.

One day we were walking through the restaurant to the bar and the Manager was mopping the floor with a mop and he mopped our feet and then pushed our feet out the way with the mop. Not very pleasant.

The entertainment in the day was very little and we only saw the entertainment staff maybe twice during our whole stay. The night entertainment was rubbish and not worth staying in for.

The food in the restaurant was very repetitive and not very appetising and there was no snack bar within the hotel to eat so you were limited as to choice of food. Also when you were sitting in the shade eating your meal outside the staff would often just come up and close the umbrellas leaving you sitting in bright sunlight.

This hotel is in my opinion, a 3 star with wifi and spa. It is definitely not a 4 star hotel and i have been in many differing types.

As we were waiting to be picked up from the hotel to go home, there was several couples in the reception all commenting on the same things quoted above although some were even more disappointed in the hotel than we were, and we were definitely disappointed. Various reports had been made to the Manager but unfortunately not all of the issues were addressed. It is a shame because a lot of the problems could have been sorted easily but no one seemed to be bothered. There were comments that last year the hotel was good but had really gone downhill in the last year.

Upon checking out of the hotel there was nowhere you could change or shower unless you paid for the use of the Spa. The only option left therefore was to have to pay to keep your room on a bit longer so you could freshen up before your late flight. (only the very much more expensive rooms had jacuzzie and view and they cost WAY WAY more money.

As we were actually leaving the hotel the male receptionist turned to us and said “hope you have a good funeral”!!!!! There was at least 6 of us that heard this and we were all disgusted by this remark. In fact I was extremely upset personally by it and contacted the Manager who said “he had investigated it” and the receptionist denied saying it! (even though at least 6 of us heard it).

I have stayed in many 3 & 4 Star in turkey and elsewhere and this does not compare to any as you can tell, I do not recommend this hotel and will not be going there again!

Room Tip: pay loads and loads more and you might get a good room. try asking for sea view and high floor.

Dear Kim;

We appreciate that you have taken the time to write such a detailed review of Emre Beach Hotel. We would like to address the issues you have raised, and we would like to start with the one that, we believe, caused you to write this review in the first place:

When you raised the "funeral issue" during your checkout, we did check the cameras, and the receptionist was indeed saying "hope you have a good funeral". We were told you were enraged because you did indeed have a funeral you were going to. When we questioned him, the receptionist told us he knew of that and that he just wanted to relay his condolences. He really did not intend that as an insult.

As for the bar, it is only 50 meters away from both the beach and the pool. Even if we wanted to put a bar at the beach, the municipality would not allow it, by the way. We do put an extra man at the bar in peak hours, and we have a two-drinks per person policy, and so the queues move incredibly fast. The furniture in the bar is definitely not broken, and there is only one set of music; the second set you are hearing is probably coming from the bar next door. It is never a problem unless you are sitting right at the edge of the terrace, though. We serve normal glasses, but may have to resort to plastic glasses for half an hour so every few days when the hotel is full- as clean glasses are in the dishwasher. Also, please note that in our contracts with tour operators, we clearly state that there is one full-service bar and that the restaurant bar is open only during lunch and dinner hours. As in other all-inclusive hotels, the food and drinks are self-service; this is stated in our contracts as well.

As for the other issues you have raised: We do give as much soap as you'd like; you just need to ask your housekeeper or at the reception. There is actually snack right after lunch, also specified in our contracts with tour operators. There is a beach boy at the beach who cleans the beach regularly. And finally, we do have entertainment every day and night, water sports and darts during the day, live music, shows, Turkish nights and bingo at night. We are sorry you thought it was rubbish, but we have many guests who swear they had a swell time...

Sincerely,

we have just returned from a week a the Emre Beach and cannot fault the hotel, we arrived in the early hours and was shown to our room very quickly, our room was directly above the first pool and we also had a sea view without the need to up grade. the staff was very freindly and our Rep for first Choice Jay was brilliant. food was good also always something different to try. bar staff were friendly and we did not have to stick to the 2 drinks rule even though was busy. the beach was great only you do have to get down there very early to get a bed, however, if you buy 1 drink from the three brothers next door you can use their sunbeds. once the hotel bar closes we went over to fantasia a 24 hour bar and would also recommned this as they were very friendly and welcoming and not expensive. also down the cost towards the main town is a restaurant called Romantic we (9 of us) had a meal there and was brilliant would def recommend this place.

only thing i would say is that they should give you 2 key cards per room. i went back a couple of time to the room meaning my other half had to get reception to let him into the room later as did happen with some others in our group and the reception staff did not like having to let people into the room as they said not their policy.

in all would definatley return to this hotel

I Stayed at the Emre Beach Annex only a week ago and I can honestly say I was 110% impressed with the condition and service. I arrived at the early hours and received excellent service by the reception staff and the check in was an easy quick experience, my standard room was clean and well kept with a good air conditioning and comfortable beds, later on that day I got upgraded to a suite which was a clean spacious environment with a huge sun terrace. By this point I was very impressed, Its an INTERNATIONAL hotel meaning the some of the food would not be to everyone's liking, but I can honestly say there is something for everyone, I am not usually fond of food abroad but I enjoyed most of the food and the Ice cream is spot on for any sweet lovers! The Staff were amazing to us even though they worked long hours they always made us feel at home and was always willing to have a laugh and a joke with you which is great customer service they always made me laugh. Also the spa is fantastic I recommend a the Turkish bath to anyone! the beach was also well kept and tidy aswell, i can honestly say my first time to turkey was fantastic and I am defiantly going again.

Dear Madam;

In cases of allergies, we would advise our guests to always to on the side of caution: If you are not sure what is in it 100%, your grandson should not eat it. The son of a close friend of mine has life-threatening nut allergies as well. I recently traveled with them and saw that that's how they were behaving. This is because waiters at restaurants/hotels can never know what is in a food- and in all-inclusive hotels, there are several cooks, and so not all cooks would know the ingredients of all the dishes.

We are glad that you are returning this year; we look forward to hosting you again...
