The hotel website makes this place look fantastic, and on our arrival just before Easter this year, the first impressions were that the website was accurate. The lobby creates a lovely impression and the rooms are very clean, modern and spacious. We were in a room at the front of the hotel which overlooked the hotel opposite - a modern hotel but hardly a spectacular view! The best rooms are at the back, overlooking the pool and pine forest. The pool itself is ok - plenty of sunbeds, a few slides, nice forest view, nice and clean. The only annoying thing was the irritating turkish pop music they insisted on blasting out loud most of the afternoon.
So now the bad stuff. The food is average at best, though that depends on your standards. Great if you like chips but that's probably the best it gets. Plenty of choice every day in the restaurant, but everything tastes so bland and is always overcooked and smothered in oil. Even plain rice was cooked in oil! It's a shame as so many dishes look deceptfully appetising! We wondered if it was just Turkish food, but we ate out one day and proved that theory wrong. The hotel's "speciality" a la carte restaurant is no better. The food was exactly the same, in fact it was wheeld down from the bufffet restaurant! It took an age to cook and the tables were so close together we had to whisper our conversations.
The staff at reception are just plain rude. This may seem insignificant, but on Sunday we asked for the table tennis bats (advertised as a free activity) and we were fobbed off by everyone, being sent on a wild goose chase by staff not bothered to help. (By the way, the bats are a joke - completely worn out and almost useless). Arriving back where we started with the receptionist, we asked to speak to a manager only to be told all managers were off on a Sunday - in a 5 star hotel?? She reluctantly summoned the restaurant manager, who was completely clueless and rude, then walked away laughing while we were talking to him! The bar staff are also arrogant and rude.
In our room all of the English TV channels were unwatchable, and the hot water wasn't very hot!
The guy at the hotel spa persuaded us to try the "VIP Package" including turkish bath, face mask, massage etc, and promised a refund if we didn't like it (£40). Well, it was all rubbish. We've had many spa treatments and I've studied the techniques myself - these masseurs were plain hopeless!! Did we get a refund at the end though? Nope, it was never going to happen.... The treatments are available elsewhere for a fraction of the cost.
On the whole we had a mainly pleasant stay in a very average hotel. I have no idea why and by whom they awarded 5 star status. We paid a very good price of ££17 each per night all inc, (from onthebeach.co.uk) which we think was an excellent price. However I don't think we could justify paying much more than that to put up with the poor service and food.
