“Lovely respite for unfortunate circumstances”
Reviewed 6 October 2012

I stayed at the Imperial Resort Beach hotel for two days and one night when my flight out of Entebbe was delayed for 48 hours due to mechanical problems. The airline put us up in the hotel. This is an impressive structure that makes an impression with its grand entrance and lobby. Rooms were great! Large with very comfortable bed, TV, beautiful tiled bathroom. Bathroom had a separate shower and tub, but unfortunately I could get no hot water from the shower (and practically flooded the bathroom trying since opening the door to adjust the water allows it all to spray into the room. The bath did have hot water. Windows are unfortunately very small - not easy to enjoy the beautiful view if you're on the lake side of the hotel. A/C worked fine and power was consistent throughout my stay. Internet access was pretty good - you have to get a passcode from the front desk each day (I don't know if they normally charge for this or not, but they did not charge us). The staff was great - very friendly and very accommodating - to all of us stranded travelers! The food was buffet only and was average for Uganda, but there was plenty of it! Between the hotel and Lake Victoria is a 'park' area that is fenced with gates locked some of the time, but you can always access it and it is lovely to stroll in. You can walk to the large beach area and there is a restaurant (grill) and bar there also that was closed on the weekday, but open for Saturday. Lots of locals came to hang out and party on Saturday. The pool is also over in this area, rather far from the hotel and it looked as though you had to pay to use it, although I didn't look into this further. Hotel is fairly close to other things in Entebbe an situated in a quiet neighborhood setting on the lake. I would stay here again.

Good hotel with a great staff and excellent location for Entebbe. The food is good with excellent prices. It does however falls short in Wireless Internet strength, AC effectiveness and overall cosmetics. The hotel is very big but the lobby area is not cooled so it can get very hot. The carpeting all over the halls is in dire need of replacement which gives it the apprearance of being run down even thought the rooms are big, comfortable and clean.

The place is great with huge rooms translating into great ambience in many places. The food is very good, only when it doesn't taste as having been frozen for way too long. The price is also competitive so, what are you waiting for...... There is need for the waiters to up their game as they seem to get bored so fast and there is a tendency for the administration to use trainees, thereby compromising on quality.

I wish I would have read the reviews here first. It is a semi-beautiful hotel on the water....that is it. I was there for 8 days, the air conditioner failed to work the entire time save 2 evenings for a few hours each. I called the desk several times and was assured it would be taken care of but, it wasn't. Insects littered the bedsheets, bath and corners. Lizards helped but don't think they are part of the staff. We were charged $633.00 as a booking deposit that at the end was not credited towards the bill. The desk said that was the charge from the service and they didnt' receive anything from it. Then to add insult to injury they tacked on a 5% credit card "fee" to the entire bill. The food was horrible, service was worthless and the staff failed at every oportunity. If you need to go to Entebbe, look into the LAKE VICTORIA hotel. Finally, if you decide to swim in the lake, be forewarned that it is infested with blood flukes.

Room Tip: A good room...would be anywhere else but here.

This large business hotel has a nice location on the beach and near the airport. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. From there on however, much is left to be desired. Hot water in shower in intermittant and uncontrollable, wifi (which costs 10$ per day) is extremely weak everywhere except for Resident Pub (which is closed), food is very mediocre and service is slow and indifferent. The managers very clearly could not care less.

Stayed two weeks while holding a seminar. It was Ok for the purpose, but would never choose it as a vacation hotel. Location is great, close to airport and on the shore of Laker Victoria. The beach is pretty big, but looked unkept with no amenities and did not invite a swim. The hotel and rooms were decorated like an old , dark lodge with heavy red curtains and frayed red carpeting. Totally inaproppriate decor for an African hotel. It was old, dirty and many amenities did not work. Can't comment on the restaurant since we had a buffet service every day, which was ok, AGAIN NOT African food, but American and Indian fares since hotel seemed to have been Indian owned. The best thing was the massage I got from a lady ( forgot her name but she was the only one doing massages), although one had to get used to the relative dirty (what looked like dirty sheets)and primitive facility separate from the hotel's main buidling, next to the pool.

I stayed here for a week and found it to be very poorly managed. In the room, the hot water didn't work and was never fixed. Towels were removed by the cleaners during the day but sometimes were not replaced with clean ones. One day the cleaners didn't show up at all. The internet service (for which I paid $10/day) never worked properly and sometimes didn't work at all. Also, staff did not forward messages promptly, and the charges for extras (airport shuttle, photocopies, equipment rental, etc.) were exorbitant, even by Western standards.
Entebbe is a terrific place to stop over during your visit to Uganda. There are lots of things to see and do, and there are much better (and less expensive) places to stay.
