“Needs New Carpet and Renovation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

We had reservations to stay in this hotel and here's what happened. The first room we were given had an extremely dirty carpet and smelled slightly musty.

The room level we had selected was their standard room so we figured that they probably had some better and cleaner rooms and we might get one if we asked.

So we went back to the reception desk, asked for a different room and were given the key to another room. This room did indeed have cleaner carpet, but unfortunately it had the luggage of other guests in it. Fortunately they weren't there or we might have frightened them.

So we locked the second room up and went back to the desk and decided to stay somewhere else.

This hotel was obviously once a high end hotel. For example the bathroom had a bidet and the woodwork on the room door was lovely. The location is great (close to the pedestrian shopping areas).

My suggestion to the owners is to renovate all their rooms including the "standard ones" and this will once again be a great hotel.

Super clean and spacious rooms. Centrally located within easy walking to metro and the walking street (where the shops and restaurants are). And affordable. Can pay to Park or just park across the street for free if you have a car. The staff was very friendly too. Not much in Poltava so your choices are limited anyway.

I went to Poltava to visit the Poltava air base which is very important historically. The US had a top secret base there in WW II and suffered one of it's greatest loss' of WW II... some call it the 2nd Pearl Harbor loosing roughly 73 B-17 Bombers to a German air raid in one night! It is known as the Poltava Affair. What happened here was one, albeit of many factors, contributing to the Cold war! Anyway, the Town of Poltava is lovely, super clean and clasic older European charm with modern amenities... the town itself is worth the visit and the Eastern Gallery Hotel was clean, the Staff was super friendly and very helpful, the price was great, and the rooms were spacious, tastefull and well maintained. The Hotel is located diagonally acrosss the street from the lovely flower- filled central park and just around the corner from the main walking street. A great place to stay! Gregg

Room Tip: I was on the 2nd floor and it was great

We stayed at the Gallery for one night whilst traveling through Ukraine. Reception and other staff were very helpful although, if you are an unplanned walk-in, being able to speak Russian or Ukrainian is essential. We took two adjacent rooms, one for three (double and pull out divan) and one for two (twin beds). The latter smelled a little of cigarette smoke but otherwise the rooms were very clean if a little spartan. Rates were good. Breakfast is chosen one of four set options and was fine and did not take as long as advertised. The hotel has off road secure underground parking and is located centrally, next to the main square and near the pedestrian street. We would definitely stay again if back in Poltava.

This hotel was suggested to me by my interpreter who lives in Poltava and at first look, it does not look like a hotel. When you go inside, there is not a whole lot to it either. I realized that this hotel was a true gem when I saw the bill for 7 nights (which ended up being the equivalent of around $200 USD), and then when I went into my room, I was very pleased. The rooms are very modern with lots of space, new furniture, and of course cleanliness that would make a germaphobe (like me) proud. Of course, like every place in Europe, the showers were a bit small for me, but then again, I am a bit overweight, so that's more my fault than theirs. The restaurant was excellent, wait time for food was a bit long, but that let me know that I was getting fresh food instead of something that was microwaved or sitting in a pot with a nice hard surface layer for the cook to break through to get to the center. The hotel is next to a gallery as well as a 5 minute walk from many restaurants, shopping centers, and goodie stores. There is also a very nice park across the street. Overall, I would defenitely stay here again when I get a chance to travel to this city again in the future.

Breakfast bit sparce but hotel clean tidy nice part of the City. Could do with tea & coffee in roooms and some TV with international stations but apart form this it was better than the Palazzo Hote which charged more and has disco underneath and you get no sleep. especiallly at the weekend .
