“Comforting & Relaxing”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

I visited White Sands 2 times last year and I'm about to go back again in a few weeks. This resort is very laid back, comfy and relaxing. I would recommend to everyone - it's so calming. There is no AC, but this is not needed. The breeze from the ocean is absolutely breathtaking. The rooms I have stayed in are clean and sufficient - refrigerator & small stove-top. They have BBQ's if you want to grill & view the wonderful ocean. There is a nice deck area in the center/back of the resort, overlooking the ocean. You also have your own private deck area/lounge chairs if you stay in one of the rooms on the side of the resort. The service has been great each time I've been here. They are always helpful with any questions you may have. I look forward to visiting again in few weeks. Can't wait!!!!

There is not too much in services. The room was passable, if that...bugs!. The curtains were torn and the bedding was gross. There are NO amenities. No air conditioning! This is just a basic room, nothing more than that. If you want to pay this kind of money for a box on the ocean, then this dump is for you.The best is the location and that is IT. NOT worth the money. Will never stay here again. What a rip off.

While we are a simple small hotel on the ocean, we have a clean, well maintained, affordable prices among all the hotels by the area, always making sure that the rooms are prepared for our main reason... <<the guest>> therefore feels like home. Cleanliness and sanitation is our priority, we NEVER have had problems with any insects even less in our beds, they are Tempurpedic mattresses covered by our clean linens that every season (6 months) we replace for new ones and top class furniture. Yes, the rooms are not air conditioning, only with ceiling fans however, since the rooms are all ocean view / located, we receive the most pure air from the ocean directly making the use of air conditioning unnecessary. We have a regular bedroom with a bathroom, a small refrigerator and cable TV which is the least expensive, yet a nice and clean affordable unit with ocean view, going through small efficiencies, Large Efficiencies to the One bedroom suite which is the closest unit to the ocean. This hotel is one of a kind, specially for people that love elegant simplicity, privacy, quiet and love the ocean.

This motel is right on the beach, which is never very crowded. The smallest room is quite cramped, but the next size up is very comfortable. The kitchen comes with a small refrigerator – not much of a freezer, but you can make ice cubes. There are two burners, a toaster, and plenty of dishes, glasses, etc. to cook a proper meal. There are grills to BBQ on the patio. They provide you with a beach umbrella, chairs and towels. The chairs are very small sand chairs, so bring your own if you want something more comfortable. Often they were out of beach towels and we had to go back to the office a few times before we could get a beach towel. The fan in our room made a lot of noise - it was not securely fitted in the ceiling, so we gave up on using it. Not much of a problem, because during the day we were not in the room much and at night it’s not usually necessary. The biggest complaint is the plumbing. There is a serious problem with the temperature control and water pressure, and other guests we spoke to in several other rooms, not adjacent to our room, all had the same problem. During a shower you have to readjust the water temperature many times. The water pressure changes from pretty good to weak and at times there was almost no water – just a tiny trickle from the shower head. Balancing the hot and cold, which are on different faucets, is very challenging. Hopefully they will do a serious plumbing renovation in the off season. Installing thermostats and fixing the pressure is really needed. Another guest had a problem with their toilet, where it ran for an hour after flushing and then wouldn’t flush again. They reported this at about 5:30 PM and were told it could not be fixed until the next day. Finally, the rooms are pretty clean, but the bathroom floor didn’t appear to get mopped during our 2 week stay (or at least not well enough to be noticeable). The shower has what appears to be some mold or dirt in the seams at the sides and bottoms of the panels. It doesn’t appear that the curtains in the rooms had been washed all summer.

I booked this motel because of the reviews and we were not disappointed. My husband called it a gem. It is located on the beach and situated between private homes, so it is not in a busy commercial area. We found it to well kept and quiet, truly enjoyed our stay and felt it was priced right.

Room Tip: The only rooms available were the bedroom, but would have preferred a small efficiency.

I was a bit leery of staying here bc the price seemed too reasonable. However, upon driving up to the motel, I was taken aback by the magnificient gardens. Our room was one room off the beach so opening our windows and feeling the ocean breeze all day and night was delightful. The rooms are minimally furnished with just what you need...a comfortable bed, refrigerator and tv. The bathroom was clean and the towels were soft and plush. The courtyard is a perfect place to relax at the end of the day. Have some wine and if you are ambitious, you can bbq and have a lovely beachside meal. The beach is clean and empty...just the way I like it. The only shortcoming was the front desk staff. They were neither friendly nor helpful.

I have stayed at this place a couple of times and you simply cannot beat the location, it is literally on the dunes.

This is one of the cheaper places to stay in the Hamptons particularly if you come off-season (their off-season period extends into June!). The rooms are functional and clean and the gardens are lovely.

You definitely need a car as nothing is close by. There are couple of roadside lobster shacks up the road (expensive) and there is a very good Chinese take-out in Amagansett.

I did read some of the negatives reviews and would like to point out a couple of things. This is not a Resort. Not sure why they have this is in their name, this is a motel. It is not open all year around. Other than chairs, an outdoor shower and a bar-b-que there aren't any facilities. You are basically paying for a clean, basic room, in a lovely motel, on the beach. If you keep that in mind, I think your expectations will be met.

I love it here and would definitely recommend it - best bargin in the Hamptons in June or September and relatively reasonable during peak times.

Room Tip: Come off-season for best rates

We stayed at the White Sands for Labor Day weekend as a last minute idea. Usually places require a 4 night minimum, which we was unable to commit to prior to driving out, so when we arrived in Amagassett/Montauk, there was not much availability. We went to numerous places prior to finding White Sands. It is off the main road, so you don't see it unless you drive in. The front desk told us they had one room left because of a cancellation. We looked at the room (it was expensive), but took it immediately. The room was nice and clean with a semi private deck that overlooked the ocean. This was exactly what we were looking for! We took the room for just one night, which was not allowed at any other places we went to...this was not needed though, because we ended up staying for 3 nights because we loved it so much. The rooms are very clean and the grounds are immaculate. I had the best nights sleep there - almost 10 hours each night!!! The beds are so comfortable. It was so relaxing. The resort provides you with beach towels, chair and umbrella. I look forward to going back to White Sands next summer!!
