“Life before oil, the ancestral home of Sheikh Zayed”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We visited the former home of the late UAE founder, Sheikh Zayed, where he lived with his first wife before oil was discovered and the building of Abu Dhabi. This has now been made into a museum and opened up to the public. You can see the living quarters of the family and where they entertained. A very interesting insight into life as it was so many years ago for the ruling family. Whilst you are in Al Ain, take advantage of the other sights on offer. A good day out and takes about 2 hours out of Abu Dhabi centre.

“Very well preserved and worth a visit”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

It was so calm and special. Having a great admiration for Sheikh Zayed, it gave me a nice insight into his humble lifestyle and the importance of his family.

The attraction is absolutely free too.

Well worth a visit!

“Intriguing glimpse into the early life of the Sheikh-must see”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

This detailed collection of the Sheikh and his family's early life is a great insight into the daily personal and social life of the ruler. The arrangements of the majlis rooms, for both men and women and the rooms of the children and the parents portray a simple and humble lifestyle of the elite at the time which is fascinating to see. It is incredible to see how well maintained this building is and is a definite must see to see a glimpse of how they lived. Superb!

There is no fee to enter the museum which was a pleasant surprise.

“Life in a fortress”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

This is a fort. You can walk around a see the rooms decorated just as it was when the Sheikh lived their. I happen to go during the National Day celebrations so there were tents up with majilis seating and tea with snacks and a lovely free traditional Emirati meal. There was also a camel for the kids and other activities. The gardens are well kept and pleasing. I don't know what it is like on a regular day but I think it will still be a nice trip.
